There are about a million DVD editions of this film and some of them are old releases with pretty bad transfers.

I looked into this some more. Are you referring to subscription notifications showing up in your PM box? You can turn this off by going to "customize" and changing this option.

If you chooose to receive subscription notifications via PM, they count toward your total just like any other PM. This will likely carry over to the new forum software because a subscription notification takes up space in the database like any other message does.

IMPORTANT: Forum software upgrade FAQs
Time
Believe it or not, I'm actually working on the forum software. I gave up on ASP.NET and went back to ColdFusion. .NET seems needlessly complicated, even for complex web applications.

Since I'm already familiar with ColdFusion and it's much faster to work with, development should proceed more smoothly now. I'll probably post a couple of teaser screenshots soon.

Jedikev?
Time
After receiving many complaints regarding Jedikev's behavior, I've locked his account temporarily.

After reviewing some of his posts, it seems he's simultaneously a valued contributor and annoying troll. I can't make any sense of it. Most of the complaints center around his use of certain derogatory terms when insulting other members. I'm the last person who would ask someone to be sugar and spice and everything nice on a message board (you should see what I post elsewhere), but I've asked him to tone things down considering the nature of the terms he uses.

I started this thread to notify members of Jedikev's temporary banning and to see what kind of support he might get from the community regarding the reactivation of his account. This is not your opportunity to take cheap shots while he's not here to defend himself. Please be honest and straightforward.

What are your feelings on Jedikev?

Also, I thought Jedi could heal each other, I thought that was what Obi Wan did to Luke.

Eh... when? In what scene? When they first meet?

I think he's referring to Obi-Wan crouching over Luke and touching his forehead while he's unconscious. Right after the beating he took from the sand people.

Eminent Domain and Property Rights
Time
I think there's a bit of confusion regarding what this new ruling is about. It's not about the government being able to seize property on a whim without compensation.

Previously, the general interpretation of the Fifth Amendment was that the government could seize your land and compensate you for such things as highways, public buildings, elimination of blight, etc. Such things are often essential to the economy so the Fifth Amendment makes sense.

The suit before the court presented a different situation involving the government seizure of private property in the name of another private party. Meaning, the government can now seize your property in the name of a private developer who wants to build a mall, an office building, etc. Basically, if the new construction will provide tax revenue for the government, such a seizure is considered for the "public good" and more important than a private homeowner's rights.

So now, a rich private developer can grease his politician buddies and have you thrown off your land so he can build a Dairy Queen and nail salon.

Justice Sandra Day O'Connor had this to say in her dissenting opinion:

"Any property may now be taken for the benefit of another private party, but the fallout from this decision will not be random," O'Connor wrote. "The beneficiaries are likely to be those citizens with disproportionate influence and power in the political process, including large corporations and development firms."

I'm disgusted by the ruling and hope Justice Souter loses his home due to his own F'd up decision.
