I'm planning on 75 x 75. Users on slower connections will be able to block avatars and other images if they choose via their control panel settings, so I figured larger avatars wouldn't be a problem.

Hey Jay, a question about something for the new forum software:
In this current incarnation, a user sees what has been updated indicated by the blueness of the folder icon next to it, but this changes by what machine you're using to check the forum, rather than the username, which is how most message boards I use operate, and the way I much prefer. If I'm out of town or something and want to use someone else's computer to check the forum, I have to figure out what's been updated and not. Then, when I get back to my own machine, I have to figure out what I've already read, etc. Will the new software count the updates according to the logged in user, or the way it currently does?

I haven't built that functionality yet. It may or may not be incorporated in this first build. I gave myself a personal deadline of late tomorrow night to get a beta version online in some form, so it probably won't make it in time for that.
When I do get to that functionality, it will probably be based on username.

The script idea that Ackroyd and Ramis came up with is actually pretty good. I would've liked to have seen Ghostbusters 3 happen.

I'm very anti-human, so I won't add much except doom and gloom to this topic. I believe humans are neither innately good nor innately evil. Nature is neither good nor evil, yet it offers dazzling beauty while simultaneously demonstrating terrible destruction. And we're a product of nature, so how are we any different? Beauty and horror, both rolled up into one complicated little package. Such is man.
I'm a technology freak and I love change, but even I get scared that the world is moving too fast sometimes--too fast for a lot of people to keep up. Makes them do crazy things.
Anyway, sorry man.

I think you guys will be pleasantly surprised by the capabilities of the new software, particularly in the area of account management. You'll have a lot of control over your forum experience.

One thing that makes it particularly easy for spammers and trolls to keep coming back is their option to create unlimited e-mail addresses thanks to the abundant availability of "freemail" providers such as Hotmail, gmail, and Yahoo.
I'm considering making it a requirement that new users provide non-freemail addresses. New e-mail addresses are harder to get from ISPs and it's easy enough to ban entire domains if a user owns their own web site and can create unlimited aliases within their domain.
There are a fair amount of freemail addresses currently in use by our members, so implementing a "no freemail" policy would affect many of you. That's the primary reason I've held off on this idea until now. Also, I want to encourage new membership, and forcing people to provide "real" e-mail addresses can be problematic because people tend to be more protective of their primary e-mail address. They certainly have no need to fear spam from this site, but I can understand their concerns.
What do you think of this solution?

I'll concede that the overall acting and storytelling of TNG is superior, but I think the charm of TOS is unbeatable. The bond between Kirk, Bones, and Spock isn't ever matched in TNG.
And yes, Wrath of Khan > all.

I don't think George Takei's sexual orientation was a mystery to anybody who was paying attention.
P.S. - It's also completely irrelevant. Sulu still kicked all kinds of ass, especially evil Sulu from Mirror, Mirror with that badass scar on his face.
I'm a full-on Trek fan, by the way. If you presented me with the option of watching any Star Wars movie or Wrath of Khan, I'd choose Khan every time.

I thought a nice addition to the site would be a gallery containing previews of DVD covers and disc artwork. It could contain thumbnails and larger previews of the artwork with links to download locations (bitorrent, web servers, etc.) for hi-res materials. I considered maintaining the library on-site, but I'm assuming the actual files are quite large and I'm worried about the performance hit on the server.
My other idea was a gallery dedicated to individual fan edits. You'd be able to create a profile that describes your edit, upload screenshots, and include any other info you deem pertinent.
Obviously, I need to get the new forum software done before I can begin new projects, but I'm getting close to finishing the forums and I'd like to get some discussions going on what projects should follow.
What do you think? What site features do you feel would help the community grow?

I don't have cygwin installed which prevents me from getting screens of konqueror, which uses the same rendering engine as Safari.
IE doesn't properly render div table CSS, which is why the reply and subscribe buttons stretch across the screen. It's disheartening to hear MS is maintaining their poor standards support in IE7.

Bizarre. Screen capture if you can, please. You can e-mail it to me if you don't have anyplace to host it.
