Topic title edit is too small
Time
ronlaw said:

Erm, in the CSS it says

.FormContentTitleInput {
width : 60%;
height : 14px;
overflow : auto;
}

so the height is absolutely specified...

and why are you using a Textarea for a single line input?

I believe I removed the fixed height in my latest beta version.

I'm using textareas instead of text inputs because quotation marks cause text inputs to break.

WYSIWYG vs Tag editing
Time

You can still use tags. They haven't been disabled.

Also, if you want to break up a large quote into several smaller quotes using the editor, simply place your cursor at the break point and click the quote button at the top of the editor. It will split the quote and allow you to type normal text.

The next software update will likely contain a user setting that allows you to disable WYSIWYG.

I'm working on an option for multiple quotes also. You can still use the traditional copy/paste method of quoting multiple people. Not ideal, but people did it for years before vBulletin introduced multiquote :)

STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>
Time

The post display issue is caused by pasting text from Word into the post editor. Word generates a lot of garbage HTML that the editor is preserving on input. That garbage HTML is then messing up the way the post is displayed in your browser.

This is only an issue in IE, oddly enough. Firefox and Safari are fine based on my testing.

I've edited the offending posts on the last couple pages of the topic, so they should display normally now. All I can ask for the moment until I can find a fix is that people not write up their posts in Word first.

Crossover for Mac
Time

I use VMWare Fusion to run several virtual machines, mostly for web dev purposes (SQL Server, Windows browser testing, that sort of thing). I haven't tried any games yet. You can download the beta version of the next release free and give it a try. However, running anything in a virtual machine is going to cause a performance hit.

Why not try XP instead of Vista? It's much less of a resource hog and you'll probably get better performance.

He said he doesn't play many games. Why would you get a computer just to play 2 games?

Yet he got a Mac (which is a computer) and now he wants to play games on it.  Newsflash, most current games don't run natively on OS X.  There are a few exceptions.  Some older games will run on it natively, but they're probably several years old.

I think the point sean wookie is trying to make is that C3PX's desire to use OS X outweighs his gaming needs, so building a machine that will force him to use Vista all the time just for an occasional gaming session doesn't make sense.

Info Wanted: To those of you who have seen a lot of the fan edits...
Time

You have many questions that could be answered through some simple research.

You can check out fanedits.com (our fan edit wiki) for a list of fan edits, and you obviously already know about fanedit.org. Why not read the project descriptions, reviews, and nearly endless posts in both sites' forums, download a few edits, and watch?

Interesting new video technology - Exciting possibilities for upscaling resolution
Time

Amazing. I was most impressed by the picture swapping they did at the end while maintaining the original reflections in the glass.

Scary though. Technology like this would make it pretty easy to rewrite recorded history in a convincing enough manner that the masses could be fooled quite easily. I've seen software that can reveal traces of doctoring in image files, so I'm sure something similar will eventually exist for video, but something to think about.

He got good medical care because he had good insurance and a doctor that cared.

Exactly. That's not a universal constant.

I'm sorry about your grandfather. His situation has no bearing on this discussion, however. He got the care he needed.

Neither one of them ever got upset with the service they received. Sometimes we have to fight for what's due, but that's not a big deal when you have family that's willing to help out.

That woman's family is the ones that need to be taking care of her now. Not the State. It is not the State's job.

You assume her family is in a position to do so. Seeing as it was her stepfather that did it, it's quite likely her family is unwilling or unable.

I don't think it's the "State's" job. It's our job. How do we act in such cases? Through the State.

Or not at all, because we're a bunch of monkeys.

So when was the last time a Tomahawk missile hit an Iraqi office building?  2003?  It's been 5 years, give it a rest.

And the budget deficit it's caused will be with us for quite some time to come. Think forward, not backward.

Maybe you should stick to tweaking the forums instead of poking your nose into things you don't know much about (like what some of us have been through).

Talk to me again when you've been molested and impregnated by your stepfather.

We've all been through shit. Wake up.

Yes, I condone his actions. I also don't believe, and I've stated this here plenty of times, that someone else's medical needs, who I've never met, are my problem.

I guess it's a good thing there are plenty of health care practitioners who feel the opposite, otherwise we'd all be fucked.

Life is good until it's not. Let's hope you're always fortunate enough to have access to money and good medical care, and that if you ever don't, it's somebody entirely unlike you who decides whether you get treatment or the finger.

Funny how people complain about where their tax money goes unless it's a $500,000 Tomahawk missile screaming towards an Iraqi office building.

That's $500,000 in Bush dollars, so about €3 at the current exchange rate.

Forum software update (4-Aug-2008)
Time

The latest version of the forum software is now live. As always, please use the Bug Reports forum to notify us of any problems.

New features include:

  • Online users list: the "User Lists" link in the top nav displays online users by default. View your buddy and ignore lists using the nav on the left.
  • Lists of users viewing forums and topics are displayed on the bottom of each forum and topic.
  • URLs are now automatically converted into links when posting.
  • Forums on the index page are now marked (bold text, blue folder icon) if new content has been posted since your last session. The icon is grayed out otherwise.
  • New topic update tracking system: the previous system, which marked a topic as unread (bold) forever if you didn't read it, has been replaced by a system that's like traditional forum software. You now only see topics marked as unread if they've received replies since your last session. Once your session ends, all topics are marked as read. In addition, topics are now marked with a blue quotation icon if there have been updates, so updated topics are easier to find.
  • First unread post link: if a topic has received replies since you last viewed it, clicking the "first unread post" link will take you directly to the first post you haven't read. Note that the first unread post is only reset once you've viewed the last page of the topic; otherwise, clicking this link will return you to the same post.
  • Topic pagination on forum pages has been cleaned up. There's now a total page count, link to the last page, and a link to the first unread post if applicable.
  • Numerous longstanding IE6 layout issues have been corrected (no more invisible buttons)

This site needs a better policy with alot of shit. Especially in the Off Topic forums. Perhaps having sub-forums in here? One for random Movies, Video Games, Politics, Music and various others. Meh.

The amount of traffic in this forum doesn't justify more categories.

Topics are like TV channels. Skip the ones you don't like and move on with your life. How others choose to waste their time on teh innernets is their business.

WTF (When the Fuck) are we getting the smiley's back?!

Whenever I get around to it. In the meantime, you'll have to decipher combinations of colons, semicolons, and parentheses without the aid of software (hint: colons typically represent eyes).

It never ceases to amaze me how much people will bitch and complain about something that costs them nothing to use and in which their participation is entirely optional.
