Republicans have just elected a man who was charged with assault the day before. Lol.

To be fairer, he was a raging asshole long before he starting hurling people to the floor and even the early voters would have known this.

Exactly. They would’ve voted for him regardless. In fact, I’m sure many supporters like him even more now. There were audible chuckles and an immediate “You’re forgiven!” from the crowd during his apology/victory speech.

Trump’s America: clueless as to how their freedoms are maintained and willingly supportive of those who would strip it from them.

He used the insult thread in Off Topic as an opportunity to play the victim again — with the results that you would expect.

Ultimately, there was no “last straw”, and I’m not going to cite a specific rule as a justification. I thought about how peaceful it was when he was banned last time and decided it would be nice if it were like that all the time.

I don’t see anything that would make that sentiment change.

For the healthy who lack empathy, an unexpected health crisis can do wonders, especially if it wipes them out financially. Incidentally:

Recent ACA polls put support for its continued existence in the majority, so I don’t necessarily buy into your argument that the majority are selfish; Trump supporters may be, but they’re not the majority.

My headcanon for Owen not remembering 3-PO is that

  1. The odds are so astronomical that 3-PO would show up at his doorstep 20 years later in a Jawa sandcrawler that he doesn’t even consider that it could be a droid he once owned
  2. most protocol droids sound similar (TC-14 sounds prissy too).
  3. 3-PO is a different color to when he owned him
  4. He doesn’t even have the droid for any period of time before he before dies (as in, maybe he would have remembered eventually).

Point 1 is the big one though.

I think the biggest challenge for most viewers in this regard is that they view 3PO and R2 as characters in a story with unique personalities. There’s an emotional attachment there. To most people in the Star Wars universe, droids are iPhones with Siri…nothing more than silicon-based assistants with simulated personalities. There are probably millions (billions?) of protocol droids across the galaxy, many of whom look and act just like 3PO, and they’re treated the same way we treat our phones: the owner chooses a voice/personality that suits them and reacts in an annoyed fashion whenever the droid doesn’t interpret the owner’s requests as they’d intended. Eventually, they get sold or recycled.

The scene in the OT that always reaffirms this concept for me is when R2 gets blasted during the trench run. Note 3PO’s immediate concern contrasted with Leia’s total non-reaction. She doesn’t even flinch. After the battle, 3PO is offering donor parts and everyone else is smiling and laughing while Luke insists R2 will be fine. I’ve seen more emotional responses from people who’ve dropped their phones (and that’s primarily a “how much will this cost?” type of reaction).

I won’t get into the whole Blade Runner-esque question of whether 3PO’s reaction is “real” or programmed because that’s way deeper than anything Star Wars typically has on offer, but it’s always seemed apparent to me that Star Wars droids are tools that are readily dismissed and replaced by their fickle biological owners.

McInerney is 80, he’s on the Fox News payroll, and is apparently a member of the Obama birther cult. Do the math. 😉

I said I found it. If I said anywhere in the post that it is fact or that I believed it, redo the math.

Lol, a straightforward CNN article is trash but Zero Hedge is cool.

That is such a weak comparison. No-one said the Zero Hedge article was cool except for you. So much for you dropping things “again” I guess, lol.

What you did here is no different than Trump pointing to Fox News as a source for his wiretapping claims. Paraphrasing: “I never said it was true, I’m just pointing out what some other guy said.”

Maybe you should ask yourself why some here were so ready to believe that you agree with the contents of the article.

It’s really up to Jay to create that sort of thing.

I created one years ago. Haven’t touched it.

I wonder if you can get off the plateau without the paraglider. Even if you can’t the plateau area is more than big enough for most people to dip their toes into.

One way that the game limits the play that I don’t like is that you have to have a decent amount of heart pieces to get the Master Sword even though you can travel there as soon as you get the paraglider.

I think this is just good game design in an open-world format. Open-world games let you go anywhere you want, but guide you through the story by varying the difficulty for quests/items, making them impossible to perform without leveling up. If you could walk right in at the beginning and get the Master Sword without improving yourself, there wouldn’t be any challenge. Skyrim lets you march up mountainsides to dragons’ nests on day one, but you’re going to get your ass handed to you.

I managed to get a Guardian Spear right after leaving the plateau, but it wasn’t easy. I went through several potions, a broken weapon or two, and a fair amount of arrows to do it.

Graphics don’t phase me; if anything I’ve been playing Zelda using the handheld mode more than playing it on a big screen. I’m too enamored with the game to care really.

Yup, I played again for a few hours last night in handheld mode and it’s definitely my preferred way of playing. I put in my earbuds and get totally lost in it.

I finally cleared the plateau and got the paraglider. Totally transforms the game. I was enjoying running around and exploring, but so much more opens up when you can fly from one high point to another.

One of my neighbours loaned me his son’s PS3. More than half the games not working went down to 2. So it’s definitely been the consoles at fault. So Thursday I have to take it back again.

Glad you figured it out. Used consoles are always a crapshoot, but the PS3 can be particularly problematic (complex hardware that was probably fairly well beaten-on by the previous owner). Is an extended warranty available on used units?

Do you have yours? Impressions so far?

I do and while I can’t render judgement on the console itself considering it’s lacking a web browser and Netflix but as for BOTW my impressions are that it is fantastic so far. The innovation, the freedom you get (once you get passed the initial prologue area), and the attention to detail that gives the game way more depth than other Zelda games. I’m loving every second of it so far.

Agreed. It arrived on Saturday morning and I’ve put in probably 10 hours of playtime so far. Once I reset my expectations in terms of graphics (I do most of my gaming on a PC with a 34" ultrawide at 3440x1440), I really enjoyed the game. I’ve mostly been playing in handheld mode, partially because I think the hardware is brilliant and partially because it’s visually kind of rough on my 50" TV at 1080p (way too many jaggies and framerate dips). It was always my intention to collapse into a comfy chair with the Switch and take occasional breaks by standing, so I don’t mind. I picked up a Pro controller for console mode and it’s a nice controller.

I’m impressed by what Nintendo accomplished in a $300 package; just great engineering all around. I don’t agree with the US marketing in terms of it being a console that you can take with you, because not being able to hit a stable 30fps at 1080p in 2017 is disappointing. In Japan, it’s marketed as a portable that you can hook up to your TV, which I think sets more realistic expectations.

These early review scores for BOTW are getting me pumped man.

No shipping notification on my Switch yet, but Amazon says it’s arriving tomorrow by 8 PM. I plan to spend the weekend with my ass firmly planted on the couch.

Same here man. The universe has been very gracious to me as a totally unrelated makes it so I don’t have to go to work today. That and me having at least a half oz. indicates that this should be a perfect weekend.

Delivery was delayed by a day. It’s not clear at this point if it was Amazon’s screw-up or Nintendo’s. Some reports are saying that Nintendo dropped the ball on getting systems to retailers in a timely fashion, leaving them to scramble to get them out the door in time for launch day. Many reports of people who preordered not getting their Switch today. Kind of bummed since I took the day off, but first-world problems for sure. At least I got a shipping notification for delivery tomorrow; some are getting bumped to Monday or Tuesday.

Do you have yours? Impressions so far?

Are you suggesting I stand all weekend?

I might have to get a brand new PS3 if such a thing is still around.

Don’t know your location, but they’re readily available from various online retailers in the US. Of course, with the PS4 Slim bundle going for $250 now, paying ~$180 for a PS3 isn’t such a great deal unless the cheap game library is the primary appeal for you.

WTF

My six-year-old is learning about flags right now and apparently would make a better VP.

The flag is so small in the tweet, that I can’t tell what is in the center.

Especially on a mobile device. The flags look almost identical.

If I were someone important like Vice President of the United States, and I were wasting time tweeting, I’d take another wasted minute to make sure I grabbed the correct flag.

I sure hope so, but I’m worried about the Bernie bros throwing another fit because they didn’t get their again.

Maybe Bernie’s supporters are justifiably upset over the way he was treated by the DNC and the apparent corruption in that organization, and this vote could be interpreted as more of the same from a party that claims to be for the people while it continues to sell out to corporate interests. This is exactly the kind of behavior that led to the Tea Party, and I’m not liberal enough for a Democrat equivalent to show up and crash the party in 2018.

Bernie’s supporters are justified in being upset how the DNC acted, no question…and yet nothing justified refusing to vote for Clinton and potentially helping Trump get elected, because Trump is a billion times worse. Sometimes being an adult means making a choice you don’t like because the only alternative is worse. Bernie supporters that further abandon the Democratic Party deserve the kind of things that are happening and will continue to happen under Trump (as does anyone who voted for him).

I’ll admit to not being terribly familiar with Tom Perez, but I got the sense that his equivalency with the “establishment” is overblown anyway.

JEDIT: Or maybe that the establishment wanted him but he’s more progressive than the Clinton wing of the party.

JEDIT2: I would have been perfectly happy with Ellison…or President Sanders, for that matter. I loathe the infighting more than the specifics that cause it.

Telling people that “being an adult” means falling in line and doing what you’d prefer they do is exactly the kind of smug attitude that has gotten the DNC and the Democratic Party where they are today, so keep it up if you want more of the same.

And last I checked, Hillary got over 3 million more votes than Trump. You honestly think this loss is about Bernie supporters failing to show up? And if you do believe that, do you think talking to them as if they’re children and demeaning them with pet names is going to help your cause?

Maybe the DNC – and the country as a whole – need 4 years of chaos to wake them up to the reality that they’ve lost touch with most Americans.
