Honestly, what Disney should do is cut out all the inappropriate jokes they throw in (such as the “wash where it doesn’t show” joke in Snow White), because throwing inappropriate jokes in family movies insults the audience’s intelligence and makes the adults seem like perverts.

The “wash where it doesn’t show” joke is only as inappropriate as you want to make it. I never took it as him asking if he had to wash his nether-regions and I don’t think it’s intended that way.

He’s asking if he has to “wash where it doesn’t show” because he’s lazy and doesn’t want to wash any more than he has to. Why spend time washing a part of your body that nobody is going to see? That’s the joke.

My mistake, TV Tropes listed it under “Accidental Innuendo,” not “Getting Crap Past The Radar,” in the YMMV page for Snow White, so I edited my comment. But I still feel that inappropriate jokes shouldn’t be in family movies. I went too far by saying that Disney should cut out their inappropriate jokes. I actually feel they should, from now on, have clean adult jokes in their movies, not dirty ones, and not alter the jokes in their past movies. However, I’m okay with when the dirty adult jokes in family movies are part of the source material, especially the “snozzberries” joke in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

I like being politically correct. If you’re not politically correct, then you’re a closed-minded right-wing asshole.
But, when it comes to Disney refusing to release Song of the South on home video in the U.S. or release Fantasia fully uncut and uncensored, they’re the wrong kind of politically correct.
I’d rather be too politically correct than too closed-minded.
And, BTW, I’m non-partisan.

The 50th anniversary release touted the restoration of the sepia tone.

And yet, only the 1999 DVD/VHS release (and the 1998 theatrical re-issue) made Dorothy, Toto, and the inside of the farmhouse sepia toned in the transition from sepia to color, using “stencil painting,” as MGM did in 1939 for the original release. The rest of the releases don’t use stencil painting for some reason.

Info Wanted: Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory audio track rips? has anyone done this?
Time

Has someone tried making a rip of the original mono track from the 1991 VHS/LaserDisc and a rip of the “Music Minus Vocals” track from the 1996 LaserDisc of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory? If so, can they send them to me? I’d like to mux the tracks to the movie from the 2011 Blu-ray. Thanks.

waaaah

“Very good condition KODACHROME original printdown with printed in wear from 35mm source material (pics show the lines). Heaviest wear around the beginnings & ends of the source 35mm reels. B&W portions are KODAK stock (1959). Mounted on 3 reels. No vinegar smell”

I don’t have enough money to purchase that. But I can’t either way, because it’s sold out.

how does this need preservation? The bluray was top notch.

Well, I know that, but there were several “mistakes” that were “fixed” in it since the 1998 restoration. For instance, on the “original” mono track (which is actually the 5.1 track made mono) on the Blu-ray, Dorothy now says “Oh, Toto” rather than “Oh, Toto, Toto” when Uncle Henry gives Toto to Miss Gulch. This is because the 1998 restorers thought she said “Oh, To, oh, Toto” and deleted the first two syllables.

I, at least, would like to keep my preservation as true to what MGM intended, not what Warner Bros. intended.

Help Wanted: The Wizard of Oz (1939) - Fan Preservation ( unfinished project )
Time

I’ve just decided to fan preserve 1939’s The Wizard of Oz. I will be using the 2013 Blu-ray version for the film footage and language tracks and the 1993 Ultimate Oz Laserdiscs for color correction and the extras, as well as sources from other releases. If someone could send me ISO files with rips of The Ultimate Oz Laserdiscs, the 1988 Criterion Laserdisc, and the 1989 50th Anniversary Laserdisc, that would be excellent. I will need (besides the ISO files):

  • Lossless rips of the digital tracks and PCM rips of the analog tracks (and a PCM rip of the Digital Right track on Side 1 of the Supplemental Disc) from the Ultimate Oz Laserdiscs
  • A rip of the supplemental feature section from the 1988 Criterion Laserdisc
  • A lossless rip of the 1988 Criterion Laserdisc mono track
  • A PCM rip of the 1988 Criterion Laserdisc audio commentary by Ronald Haver (not just from the film itself, but the whole discs)
  • A PCM rip of the 1989 50th Anniversary Laserdisc M & E track

I also own the MGM/UA 1997 DVD, the 2005 3-disc Collector’s Edition DVD, and the VHS box set of The Ultimate Oz, but the first VHS doesn’t work anymore.

And yes, help is needed.

Ideas Wanted: for an edit of 'The Wiz: Revisited'...
Time

Hi, I’m new here.

I just decided to start a fan edit of Sidney Lumet’s 1978 film, The Wiz, which is one of my guilty pleasures (I’m well aware the 1975 Broadway musical is better and actually good). I was wondering if there were complete reels of the film that someone could borrow/purchase, scan, and send the scanned versions to me for restoration. If that’s not the case, then I’ll be using the DVD as my source (I own the Blu-ray as well, but the film on it fails to rip). I would also like the reel of the film’s alternate trailer, known as the “History of Oz” trailer, to be borrowed/purchased, scanned, and have the scanned version sent to me for restoration. And yes, help is needed.

Changes to be made:

  • Nipsey Russell’s “What Would I Do If I Could Feel?” dubbed with 1975 cast album version
  • Richard Pryor’s “So… you wanted to meet the Wizard…?!” dubbed with same-worded final lyric of “So You Wanted to See the Wizard” on the 1975 cast album
  • Most Emerald City scenes and all the Wizard’s throne room scenes color-corrected (given an emerald-green tint)

Not sure what else to change… Any ideas?
