I was under the impression that the Hoth base wasn't the entire Rebel Alliance (it's just a small band of freedom fighters) after Yavin they split up a grew in number. That way the fleet massing at the end of ESB and getting bigger by ROTJ makes sense (where were these other ships if the whole Alliance operation had just moved from Yavin to Hoth?).

So (if that is the case) Leia isn't in charge of the whole Alliance just the small band on Hoth.

I know the crawl says Luke is in command but that doesn't tally with anything we see in the film (possibly that should change to make sense of what we actually see).

The Battle of Hoth was a big catalyst to the Rebellion getting to the size that it did.  For example, the Mon Calamari did not join the Rebellion until the time in between Empire and Jedi.  They are the race who brought those big star cruisers to the Battle of Endor.

And yes, the crawl does suggest that Luke is the leader.  I think it was hyperbolic thinking, shocking as it might be that GL would allow himself to be self-contradictory!  It's been suggested that GL and only GL wrote all of the crawls for all of the movies.

Explains a lot.

Clearly this was missed just before Ady scared us-- but please take a look....  This might be the most elaborate April Fool's joke I've ever seen in the Star Wars universe.... Click the "combat tactics" button....

Back to the exteriors now consider this as a proposition and not something final ofc :P

Considering I live in Washington State, I absolutely LOVE the fact that you incorporated the freakin' SPACE NEEDLE into Cloud City.

This pretty much canonizes Seattle as part of the Star Wars galaxy.

To support Ady's point about the cloud car escort--  do not forget that Vader, Boba Fett and Lando are all in cahoots about the Millenium Falcon's arrival.  So, while the cloud car laser shot was a show of belligerence so that Han and Leia would not be tipped off about the upcoming trap, it only makes sense that since all parties are already aware of the MF's lack of hostile intent, that they be allowed to land in a patently unguarded fashion.

You could even say it was one of many reasons for Leia to say -- "I don't like this....." after they landed.

What's more mysterious is how Anakin goes from an American accent in the PT to having a RP English accent in ROTJ (even if you mess with the pitch of James Earl Jones's voice it sounds like an RP English accent).

Wait, what? It's never sounded RP to me. It's "upper class" as American accents go, but I'd still say it's American.

DE

Ben Danger did this little experiment with adjusting the pitch, it's not quite RP but a little more British than mid Atlantic (ala Loyd Grossman and Clive Barker before the throat polyps) :

Imagine that voice trying not to be so EVIL (it sounds a little camp) and you might get a workable Anakin.

Don't make me destroy you.....

Just hearing Vader say that gives me the oogies....

And it doesn't sound one bit British to me..... it just sounds..... Sith-ish......

Since when GL went bad? :)

Here's what would make it better....", I really wouldn't care to have a "meaningful and productive discussion" with you.

In fact, I'd just tell you to f*** off and die.

In fact now you start flaming....

I am referring to all of this-- *waves arms around, motioning to this big forum of Star Wars geeks.*  Use your time wisely and let this project be a release valve from real life, not yet another thing to stress about.

so, at the end of the day, i guess its a matter of taste ;)

The next time someone throws an issue down to a matter of taste I don't know what I'm going to do. But for now I will merely harm my keyboard with my forehead. Or the other way around if you will.

That is to say, if you disagree tell me why, don't just say it.

I could.... but it would be a waste of time.  When one is convinced that they are right to the point that it is well beyond reason, counter-arguments become irrelevant.

You win.

I hate to confirm what BmB said about zooming, but it is correct that when you zoom in on a 3D image, the "closer" elements do not move spatially against the "further away" elements.  The reason is simple-- your position behind the camera has not changed.

However, if you are physically moving towards the 3D image, the spatial elements do indeed change, because there is no actual zoom taking place.

That said, I totally disagree with BnB's attitude and position.  That "giant fin" clip looks dynamic and interesting, and I think that such a change would be a welcome addition.  Let's just not call it a "zoom" but simply a "moving camera shot."

Also, BmB's position about "fog" increasing as the distance down the shaft increases is equally incorrect.  Ady is right.  That is nothing more than light bleed, which is quite simply, a natural limitation to human vision.  The further away something is, the more difficult it becomes to pick out fine details.  They tend to "bleed" together, with the more obvious elements (like bright light) obscuring many of the finer details.

Ady,

I tried to PM this message to you, but apparently your mailbox is full.  In any case, please see below--

Update:

I stopped by a little store called Mail by the Mall, where they specialize in shipping items.  Unfortunately, they do not ship internationally.  The rate they charge for wrapping the monitor up well enough to survive the wear and tear of the international shipping process was reasonable, however.  They will have the piece ready to go by Monday, Dec 21st.

My wife and I are heading to Vegas tomorrow morning for a short holiday.  We will be back Tuesday evening.  My plan is to pick up the monitor on Wednesday, Dec 23rd, and to stop by the USPS to get it sent to you.

And yes, I have confirmed that the USPS is the cheapest way.  However, I do not yet know for sure how long it will take to arrive to your address-- figure, at least a couple of weeks shipping time.  As soon as I know more, so will you.

Does all of this fit into your plans so far?

Well looking at the specs of the monitor its says...

 AC 120/230 V AC 100/240 V

does that mean it can take both power systems? I know my gateway monitor came with a US plug as well as the UK version. If it can use both voltage systems then this would be perfect. Does it say anything about the voltage on the monitor at all?

Also, on the back of the monitor does it say which revision number it is?

 Ady,

What I can tell you is this-- it came with the standard US power cord (three-prong male to plug into the wall, three-prong female to plug into the monitor).

Revision-- A04

Hope that helps!

Adywan,

I am a 36-year old financial advisor who lives in Eastern Washington.  I have been following your project with enthusiasm for quite some time.  You sir, have the guts to follow through on a dream that is quite frankly, brash, impractical and unwieldy.  I mean, you plan to film on a giant Star Destroyer model?  You actually bought wampa fur?  You are a brilliant and ridiculous fool, and my hat is off to you for taking such an uncompromising stance and earning such a devoted following.

Last summer I burned a copy of Star Wars Revisited and have had a SW movie night on three separate occasions with the SW nuts that I call friends.  I am eagerly awaiting Empire Revisited and even more so, RotJ Revisited.

Ok, enough of the compliments-- let me come to the point.  I hear you on your trials and tribulations with Gateway, having worked in the retail industry for some time.  I pretty much used to be that guy you spoke to who couldn't get anything done on a monitor replacement, but certainly tried like the dickens to do so.  My advice-- forget reporting them to the BBB, don't send them a strongly-worded letter, etc etc etc.  In short, remember your experience and move on.....

I have something that might allow you to do this very easily.  I recently replaced a monitor that I used for less than a year, and it is in perfect working condition.  My wife has been bugging me for six months to do something with it.  I have been attempting to give it away, but apparently people think that a 24-inch Dell 1920x1200 resolution flat-panel is too ridiculously huge.

*scratches head*

You don't, do you?

Ady, it is yours if you want it.  All we need to do is arrange for shipping.  And as useful as it might be for you, I would definitely get the greater gift-- that is, I would be helping somebody who has more cajones then I ever will, who has the guts to follow a brash, impractical and unwieldy dream.

Whaddya say?
