For what it’s worth, that’s why I like the clips JakeRyan17 posted in the redux thread (I believe they said Snooker made them?) where Finn calls to Poe instead, and Rey asks “So what were you gonna tell him?” in the cave. Even though there’s no romantic payoff for them, it’s believable that he was about to confess then jumped waaaay back when it turned out they weren’t dying after all. Works better than the force sensitivity or a random resurgence of his brief crush on Rey, anyway.

I don’t think the movie is as clear as it could be about Finn’s force sensitivity being The Secret, since many have interpreted it as being in love with Rey, but it’s definitely pretty blatant that he is force sensitive. When Jannah talks about their mutiny, she calls it “a feeling” while the force theme plays and the shot places emphasis on that line, then Finn starts telling her about how the Force made it happen and brought them to that point.

Then with the command ship it’s the same theme, and she asks how he knows, and the music stops and he says “a feeling” again. It’s a very blatant callback, the only way to make it more obvious is for him to declare “the Force is guiding me!” Him sensing Rey’s death is just more evidence on top of that.

Here’s my take on the dagger scene that I’ve cobbled together for my personal edit. There’s still a bit of abruptness with the following audio cue, but overall I think it works. Maybe you also could use Poe saying “heads up” in yours?

Also, I believe I remember reading a few pages back that Hal or someone else was reluctant to have Leia say “Come home,” since ‘home’ could be interpreted as ‘come die with me’ or something like that? As I was rewatching the whole Kef Bir sequence on my TV to make sure everything flowed properly, I noticed that Han also tells Ben to “come home”, so I don’t think Leia saying it would have any more issue than that does? If anything, it might reinforce the idea that she’s the one behind Han’s appearance.

Yep, they play when you’re in the Rakata box and the Sith Academy. Like I said, some (most?) of them are in plain English, which you only notice if you listen very closely to the isolated clips, so they still work. I’ve been working on the dagger scene for my own edit and what I’m doing is reversing a few of them then playing them over each other.

I’m not sure if you would want to go with these (edit: for the goonies moment with the dagger replacement), but here are some Sith whispers from KOTOR. They’re in English, so if you listen hard enough you can make out some words, but in the game they’re never loud enough over the music to be intelligible so I imagine you could do similar here. Maybe they could be reversed or you could play one male voiced line over a female voiced line, or do both, to further garble the words.

I don’t think it works to have Boolio tell Finn and Poe about the spy and for them to act surprised, since from the way they talk about it in later scenes it sounds like everyone already knew that there may be one. Rey asks Poe if there’s a spy or not right before the “Palpatine’s back” scene.

I know that dialogue is in the original film, but considering they say the Falcon still isn’t back and act like they don’t know what’s going on with it, if Finn doesn’t know a spy exists when Boolio mentions it then I don’t see how Rey would know to ask “There’s a spy?” as soon as she walks up, before they had a chance to tell her.

There are some rough concepts of tranzitions that I made some time ago testing some awsome ideas from this forum.

The Senate mentions Rey:

Falcon mission mentioned:

Falcon is back:

I was able to dig up the transitions and scene reordering I was referring to here.

I agree with pretty much everything Octorox suggested, as well.

Several pages back someone suggested reordering it so that Rey’s training scene happens right after the “who is she?” with Palpatine, then the Falcon scene happens after Billie Lourd tells Leia the Falcon still isn’t back, then back to Ajan Kloss after breaking through the ice wall and proceeding as normal.

I really like that idea as well, since it gives us a path to follow through the characters’ dialogue, and helps to ease the pacing a bit more. Is that something you’d be willing to consider?

I like the idea of removing Leia knowing Rey’s heritage, given that there’s no way she would know unless it’s another one of her weird “Somehow I’ve always known” moments which just raises more questions about why she did absolutely nothing with this information.

I don’t, however, like the idea of cutting “two were made” since it’s not exposition, it’s calling back to Lando’s line and reminding the audience that while the audience knew the Wayfinder was right there, Rey didn’t. Further, I think culling the Dyad lines would hurt the movie quite a bit; if anything, that concept needed to be expanded more on. I don’t think cutting it altogether is the solution, though. The uniqueness of their bond as a Dyad is what leads to Palpatine ditching his plan of converting either of them, and is also what allows Ben to bring Rey back from death. Without that, the force healing becomes even more convoluted and contradictory and raises all kinds of questions about all kinds of previous moments in the saga. Exposition is not always a bad thing, and an aversion to it hurts the final product just as much as an overreliance. This film explains so few things as it is.

I’m watching the workprint now, and it occurs to me another reason it may be prudent to chop off the end of Kylo’s TIE cockpit rolling so it doesn’t literally explode.

Presumably, he has the Wayfinder inside. Considering how easily he crushed the Death Star Wayfinder, although I can believe he somehow survived this, I find it hard to believe that the Wayfinder survived all that jostling followed by literally exploding. Plus, the wreckage of the cockpit in the following shots looks relatively intact aside from being on fire, so it’d add some cohesion there too to cut the explosion.

Maybe there’s a way to include a brief shot of Kylo quickly grabbing the Wayfinder before the rolling/explosion so we can assume he protected it with his body and had it on him in the following shots?

I really like the Coruscant opening thematically, and the work being done on it is splendid, but I worry that it causes more questions than its worth. Chief among those being if it’s been there since the Prequel era or if Palpatine stuck it there when he turned it into the imperial capitol. If it’s the former, how did they get it and why didn’t they ever do anything about Exegol, and how has it remained untouched? If the latter, again how did nobody ever find it?

Further, how did Luke not find it on his travels with Lando? Seems like the Jedi Temple wouldn’t have been a particularly hard place to search, especially if Kylo finds it in a jiffy.

Yeah, no problem. Btw, you’ll probably go a more conservative route with Mustafar, but thought I’d share a mockup I did to extend it and actually further Kylo’s arc beyond a minute long fetch for a holocron. If people could get permission from these guys to actually use the footage in their edits (I haven’t tried), it could be a very useful addition. I’ve made enough test edits at this point trying to fix issues, I should just start a thread and take a crack at doing the whole movie. haha

This is actually fantastic. It’s fanservice, no doubt, but the editing work is solid and works very well to do exactly what you were going for, in terms of extending the scene and what there is of an arc. I don’t know how many editors will want to use fanfilm footage, but nonetheless this seems like the best way to incorporate it if one wants to.

Not to comment too much on the validity of either situation, but given the constant ongoing cries of character assassination over hermit Luke despite that idea coming from Lucas, pre-dating both Rian and JJ, I can’t imagine the wider reaction to the idea that Leia started the First Order and was to blame for all of it all along. Even if it could track with her character arc, just the tarnishing of her good name so to speak would drive people insane. I certainly would be impressed with any edit that pulls it off, but just something to keep in mind.

the bad thing is that as we do to introduce the palpatine scream and the sound effects!

any wizard of sound?

Here are a few examples of effectively (imo) added sfx and trailer music for reference https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gBXjXvu9bJ9TCdx9R8SNxYK6ESl8TLWT/view?usp=sharing

I like this, though with the Rey/Kylo fight I can’t help but think it should be more Duel of the Fates, whereas with the Palpatine scene it’s a shame how much it’s cut down. Maybe if there’s a way to keep jonh’s full extended scene as well as the trailer music and the sfx?
