Man I hope they don't go with those terrible covers again.
Man I hope they don't go with those terrible covers again.
Nice. I hope to have some BD covers soon for the eventual releases (WIP pieces, obviously).
Where does one get silver or gold paper? Does it work only with certain types of printers?

Imrahil, those are the cat's pajamas bee's knees! I'm grabbing them when I get home.
Just a question: Why is Jedi the Original Trilogy Edition?
They all are. Those red ribbons used to say "HI FI STEREO!" and I figured I'd put something a bit more pertinent on it.
Okay, now I get it as well. :)
Your first mock-up will have the art on the back, not the front. That seems weird to me. The second will have no title on the front. This also seems weird.
And "Original Theatrical Edition" will be unreadable because it stretches across the back, spine, and front.
Unless you plan for these to be landscape covers instead of portrait ones, and these are all only the "front."
It looks okay and all, but..."savage oppressor"? Really?
...so are you going to put these on sideways, or is the art going to be on the back of the cover? Because it looks like those are your two options.
Sweet. Uploading now. I'm including the three disc labels I've made as well (one for Adywan's theatrical ESB, purist ANH, and Jambe Davdar's "Building Empire.")

I'd like to put these up on rapidshare or megaupload or something, but have never done it--does one need to sign in/have an account to do so?
Vincent,
I know what you mean. Still, I had to do it, because it's just that much better than the other SW fonts.
Can I ask where you got the poster for the front of that? I've never seen it at a larger res than about 900 px on the long side.
Anyway, I put together a little disc art for the purist edition, since the regular edition has plenty of disc art:
Well, I got chills seeing that deleted scene.
As for this...well, I'll buy it probably. I don't mind having the SEs, I'd just like the real movies too.
Finished my cover set today for what will eventually be the OOT. :) They're based pretty closely on the original VHS releases; the only tweaks are minor corrections to the text, and then adding a consistent color scheme to the spines (and keeping some SW fonts for the ESB spine).
I did a fourth cover for the "specials" - the vintage making-of specials + the Holiday Special.
Yeah, I see the point about desaturation. However, the file itself is fine, and I don't need to get another one.
Seems like the OP has plenty of other material to work with though, so I'll keep working on these for my own purposes.

Wrong colors? Elaborate.
Ther's nothing to elaborate, just be curious. You can find many reference with slight difference on the net. Just have to spot wich are the best and give it the final improvements yourself. You can find really high res picture of it for a top rendition at 300 dpi, worth to say.
See, that's far too washed out.
Jonno,
I saw that he did one very similar! The big difference is that I preserved the cheeseball CBS/FOX logo. :)
It seems like ChainsawAsh's covers link is dead again?
Wrong colors? Elaborate.
I was playing around with vintage covers (as others have done, admittedly). Here's my SW one:
So I whipped this up, mimicking the Star Wars vhs tape I grew up with:
Is that more or less what you were thinking of?
I'll try my hand at the GOUT stuff, I think. Been wanting some "retro" covers for these anyway.
Haha, sweet idea! :)

This is a woman who was elected to the senate at age 18...
Hmmm hi!
Where/when do we get Leia's or Padme's age so all this can have a point?
From the movies and only the least that leia looks like in ANH is 25+ (IMO) despite the fact that Carrie's age was 21.
So from the movies and only we dont get a clear sense of age or we have to bother with it.

She was 18, wasn't she? Hamill was 25.

Okay... my final ANH:Revisited cover. Now to try tart up that Jedi one a tad!
I adore this cover. The only thing that kills it for me is the font on the spine--is that Star Jedi? A New Hope? The kerning or something seems off.
You really should check out David Occhino's Astro SE font. It's not free, but it's definitely worth it. His comparison page makes that point better than I can.
Vacation. :)
Did you have something specific in mind for any of them?

Here's a sample of kinda goofy box art I'm making for my Pwnage Edition disc. Not that the "official" art isn't good, I just wanted something more Criterion-esque. I might so some similarly minimalist stuff for dark_jedi's versions.
This is brilliant. Reminds me of the Star Wars credits by Saul Bass thing that went around awhile ago.
