STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

Little late in the game for a new thought, now with the end so near (and I don't remember being so anxious for a movie to come out since ESB first debuted such a long time ago...) but it occurs to me that, for continuity, it would be neat to see a MonCalimari squid guy or two in the rebel command center somewhere in the background. just for a moment, like the battle droid in ANHR.

When ROTJ came out, I remember thinking, who the heck are these guys, and why are they suddenly running the show?

I do remember reading that there will be no MonCal ships in the fleet at the end, but I don't recall reading why. Was there a specific reason? Otherwise it seems (barring some non canon EU back-story) the fish just seem to come out of nowhere to lead the charge.

My apologies if this has already been beaten to death somewhere else.....

Just a question from a curious observer... Do you guys ever find that obsessive frame by frame nit-picking of a movie like this, and the incredible amount of knowledge you have of all the behind the scenes magic ever prevent you from simply losing yourself in the story? Can you sit down, watch it from start to finish and lose yourself in it, or do you find yourself analyzing every little bit?

I've watched ANH:R many times now and love how all the little changes have made the SW world so much more vivid and real, and I expect even greater things from ESB:R and even so much more from ROTJ:R, but I don't have the level of involvement that you all seem to. I can still lose myself in it without having to scrutinize every snowflake.

So, just wondering if the movie is still magic for all of you, like when you were 10, or if it's more of an appreciation of the technical elements now?

After all the blood sweat and tears you've invested in this project, Adywan, will you ever be able to just sit back and watch it? Just curious if all this has changed your perspective on it all.

The 10 year old in me can barely hold his water waiting to finally see it the final project... The anticipation is probably way more agonizing than waiting for the original theatrical releases!

Yes.

And, true fact, (I will deny this in court) on multiple occasions I have been heard to growl, "Go strap yourselves in, I'm about to make the jump to lightspeed!" I have also said "Punch it, Chewie!" But you gotta know your audience....

I'll bet air traffic controllers think it's weird when you scream "Pull up, all craft, PULL UP!" whenever you have to abort landings and go around.

Do the hot flight attendents take turns coming up and sarcastically ask "Would it help if I got out and pushed?" when you are stuck in line waiting for take-off?

Sadly, the male/female ratio of SW geeks is the same in the airline as it is in the real world - about 10,000 to 1. :( About as close as it gets is when one of them calls me "Captain." And anyway, precious precious few of them are as pretty as Carrie!

When you push forward on the throttles during takeoff, do you imagine the hyperspace starfield?

Wow! Good to have Supervisors and pros contributing here!

Hi Adywan

My best wishes and hope that everything's going OK; I know something of what you're going through right now as I lost my father to cancer 5 years ago. The most awful time of my life, hopefully your story will have a happier ending!

Anyway, more to the actual ESB:R topic, a minor thing that always bothered me was the Falcon's landing sequence on the pad at Cloud City. She comes in, fires braking thrusters (or whatever) and then just drops suddenly onto the pad. As an airline pilot, I've always been bothered by the motion of the Falcon during this part. It seems to me that the sudden pitch-down just prior to the actual touchdown looks far too abrupt and could be smoothed out a little (though I've had my own share of crappy landings, goodness knows....) And more importantly, although the struts do compress a little, to make it look like an actual ship with mass and momentum, there should be a subtle, fluid bounce-back right after the compression.

I see and wanted to thank you for fixing the other pilot's beef I had -- retracting the gear on the take off!! (both in ANH and ESB) -- and I humbly submit that the landing sequence itself would look much better (to a professional eye, at least!) with a little additional tweaking of the touchdown.

That kind of doesn't make sense either.

There's not a lot about the whole battle makes any sense. For starters, where's the air cover? You gotta have air superiority before you send in the ground pounders.... A few Tie fighters would have knocked all those pesky speeders down in no time, and some Tie bombers could have knocked out all the turrets/ground defenses, etc... A big atmospheric battle between Ties and Xwings as a prelude to an aerial bombing attack/ground assault would have made a lot more sense in military terms...

And the rebel pilots are morons. Absolute and utter morons! You're attacking a slow moving target with an extremely small arc of fire, limited to just a few degrees left and right of center, (slightly better vertically) so what do you do? Attack from the sides/behind/above/below where they ludicrously have absolutely no defense of any kind? Of course not! Go charging straight in head on every time and get the crap kicked out of you! Yay rebels!

And the space blockade. Did it actually stop anybody from escaping? Again, where were the fighters? Tractor beams? Anything? What a bunch of clowns.

The battle of Hoth is my very favorite moment of the whole series, it still gives me a tingle, but when I stop to actually think about it, the whole thing falls apart. The secret is: never think.

That would be great, thanks. If they know a few people who have Hoth trooper costumes too then it would solve a couple of problems i'm having with 2 shots :)

I repeated the same thing because no one answered it.

It wouldn't break any pace. That would add more emotion to Luke's failure.

We are truly of different generations of film fandom if you still aren't getting this.

The very best thing I've heard in a long time that highlights this gap is from "Spaced", a brilliant English comedy starring Simon Pegg of "Shaun of the Dead" fame. Tim Bisley works in a collectibles shop, and an 8 year old wants to buy a Jar Jar doll. He explodes:

"You are SO blind! You so do NOT understand! You weren't there at the beginning! You don't know how good it was, how important! This is it for you! This jumped-up firework display of a toy advert! People like you make me sick! What's wrong with you?!"

Lots of Star Wars references like that... He is so disapointed with TPM that there's a scene where he burns all his cherished SW merch on a funeral pyre in a re-enactment of ROTJ's burning Vader scene. Very funny show, shame it only lasted 2 seasons.

MONTAGE!!!!!

:p upgrades look super sweet Ady!

...er, yeah, ok, "montage" not quite the right word, obviously.... LOL. Oh well.

But I've always thought it's a horribly glaring omission (puppet limitations) that we never got to see Luke learning any saber skills, other than blocking the shots of the remote for all of 60 seconds, which is about all Ben ever showed him. Levitating rocks and running through the woods with Yoda on your back hardly seems like really inclusive training to me. After all, Luke's entire purpose in life was to defeat the Sith, seems like combat training would be a fairly high priority, no?

Obviously Yoda must have taught him something, and just thought it might be neat to see on screen.

Been lurking here for a while, soaking up all the SW geek goodness, getting cramps anticipating ESBR... Haven't read anything about this, and thought I'd throw it out for consideration.

I've always wondered how Yoda taught Luke his lightsaber skills, and wondered if it would be possible (or desireable) to add a little scene, just a couple of seconds worth in a sort of training "montage" of sorts, of Yoda and Luke sparring with sabers. Perhaps some grabs of footage from the prequels of Yoda fighting, combined with some footage from ESB of Luke fighting, super-imposed on a suitable Degobah background.

Just a couple of seconds between the existing scenes of him running/jumping/levitating stuff to sort of round out the Jedi training, and possibly explain how the farmboy managed to go 9 rounds with the Sith Lord.........

Info & Ideas: ESB and ROTJ Wishlist
Time

As a sort of lurker here who just about peed his pants when he saw the new DeathStar battle in Adywan's ANH, I just wondered if I could weigh in with a wish list of my own.

The Hoth battle was/is one of my most cherished silver screen memories, but it could have been sooooo much better with just a few additions. I would love to see something along these lines:

-A wave of TIE fighters and bombers preceding the AT-ATs, mixing it up in the air with a bunch of X-wings as they attempt to bomb the power generator. This could make for some interesting background filler for the remainder of the surface battle, and would make more sense from a military standpoint.... I mean, would they really send the AT-ATs in without some form of air cover?

-Luke is a moron. WHY WHY WHY would you repeatedly attack the AT-ATs from head-on, directly into their line of fire, when you could simply attack from the sides or behind with total impunity? This would involve a huge amount of work, I'm sure, but I'd like to see them attacking the AT-ATs from the sides/behind more, and being shot down/attacked by TIE fighters while the X-wings fly top cover. Luke could be shot down by a TIE fighter.

-Seeing some rebel transports being destroyed by a much bigger Imperial blockade. Maybe even seeing some transports being captured like the Blockade Runner in ANH.

-The rebel fleet could be larger at the very end.

Under the catagory of "Probably Impossible" are the following wishes:

-It sure would be cool to see the AT-AT's disembarking troops, somehow, prior to them entering the base.

-Landing the AT-ATs at an assembly area outside the shield, being covered by TIEs, then seeing them move out to start the assault.

For ROTJ, the two biggies are the complete and utter removal of the Ewoks, and the final space battle needs a total ROTS make-over, with 10 times the fighters and capital ships. The battle, literally, to end all battles!

A guy can dream, can't he? Thank you, Adywan, for keeping the SW dream alive!

Cheers,

Hig

Hi there!

I'm new here and only yesterday found out about Adywan's incredible ANH revisited.

Gobsmacked.

Utterly speechless. I will never be able to watch ANH again without thinking about what it should have been. So now I have a dilema. I can watch it on my little computer monitor, but I want to watch it properly on the big screen. I downloaded it as an AVI, and tried burning it as a DVD. The aspect ratio is all wrong for my bigscreen, and it takes a lot away from it.

What is the best way to burn this thing from an AVI with an aspect ratio suitable for bigscreen, OR: is there a DVD (done right) that is available for purchase some where?

PLEASE tell this rabid SW fan how to best enjoy Adywan's masterpiece!!!

Thanks!
