STAR WARS: EP VI -RETURN OF THE JEDI "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - ** PRODUCTION HAS NOW RESTARTED **
Time

One of the things that I loved the most in ANH:R was the seamless inclusion of the planet Yavin in the background of the final battle. (Not actually sure if Yavin is the name of the moon, or the planet…) It added a striking visual element and a sorely needed piece of geographical continuity.

It might be neat to try something similar here, unless if would be too visually distracting; there’s a LOT more going on in this fight!

Is there really a debate about fighters having hyperdrive?!

We see – very much canon and very, very plainly – a bunch of fighters jumping into hyperspace in ROTJ when they leave Sullust and coming out again at Endor to attack the Death Star. X-wings, A-wings, Y-wings, the whole lot I think…

There is NO question they all have hyperdrive.

+1, really nice Ronster, just found my new desktop!

Here's a suggestion -- not for the edit!!! (Frink) -- but for Ace fighter pilot Dum-Dum McSkydummy: Don't fly headlong into the guns, you idiot! Attack from the sides, or behind, or anywhere else but straight ahead, for Pete's sake. Thing's only got about a 10 degree cone of fire...

Wow, OK... I didn't think the proportions would be accurate enough or the surface detail, er, detailed enough to use on screen. Is it really that good? I had the old one, back in the day, even re-painted it, but how much work would it take to jazz this one up? Are there after-market kits? Photo-etch, that sort of thing?

When Adywan talks about the "Hasbro Millennium falcon playset," what, exactly, is this? I googled it and all I could see is the newer, bigger, version for the 3" figures... Terribly cool, but surely this can't be what he's talking about. Is there a link someone could provide? Just curious to see what he's referencing, thanks.

No, no, IF, your post was great, I missed about half of the little changes you pointed out! It went straight to the heart of what makes this edit so worth waiting for -- incredible attention to detail in the pursuit of absolute perfection. I was merely pointing out Frink's pissy over-reaction to a single 'observation' I made. About something that was quite glaringly wrong.

Also, should there be a...

At the 1:08 mark.... Just a thought.

But in my defense, if you read my post, it was more of an OBSERVATION than a SUGGESTION. Maybe you should change your mantra to OBSERVATIONS now closed if a simple observation so offends your delicate sensibilities....

That Dagobah scene is amazing! The amount of work put into what you do boggles the mind. One question -- any consideration for the flight path of the X-wing as it crashed into the swamp? At its apparent angle of descent, and based on its heading as it rests, it would have had to have passed right through the trees very close to the base. Those are pretty sturdy looking trees, so either the X-wing would have been destroyed, or, if the trees are flimsy enough, some of them should be knocked down to depict the flight path just prior to the crash.

Not wanting to seem picky... I've had basic crash scene analysis training in my capacity as Safety Chair for my airline's union.

No offense to ady but nothing he's done suggests he'd be able to spearhead a $600 million blockbuster film trilogy. It seems kind of ridiculous to criticize movies that haven't been finished/started yet, but whatever, go for it, if that's what you please. I will be where I am eagerly anticipating both ady and JJ's work.

Also, "twenty-thousand."

One word: excessive f***ing lens flares.

OK, four words. After the way he f***ed up Star Trek, I have very low expectations.

What if Gary Kurtz himself made a suggestion or two, would they be ignored?

What if Gary Kurtz, in a perfect, possibly parallel, universe, introduced Adywan to JJ Abrams, who would then just admit defeat and just get Adywan to make Episodes 7-20 so they were done right the FIRST time. If only...

When the Death Star fires at the MonCalamari ship, it always bothered me that the beam didn't just punch right through like it was made of paper and keep going. It can destroy a whole planet, so a ship shouldn't have stopped it... Maybe it could even take out another ship(s) in the background.

This is a good one. I've always thought the same, myself.

I believe the official explanation is that the second Death Star had a variable energy output so they could dial it down to destroy a ship, or dial it up to destroy a planet.

Something about that explanation just never sat right with me.

Why not? It doesn't make sense to use the full power of the superlaser just to blow up something as tiny as a capital ship. Reducing the power level in exchange for a faster rate of fire not only makes sense, but would also help explain why the Death Star in Star Wars spent 30 minutes traveling around Yavin to to get in range of the Rebel base instead of blowing up Yavin and then blowing up the Rebel base two minutes later.

Why not? Well because the only "official" explanation would be whatever is in the movie in the first place and not some fan-boy EU crap. The emperor says it's "fully armed and operational," and nobody says anything different. What you say makes 100% sense, but once the ship explodes the beam would have gone through. Visually it would be a much more dramatic demonstration of the beam's supposed power.

The official explanation IS the movie.

The Death Star can blow up a planet. It can also blow up a ship. This is totally clear in the film. It requires no further exposition in the film, nor any outside discussion.

YOU made up a rule "once the ship explodes the beam would have gone through" that doesn't fit with what's in the film. The film is not in error.

This is the correct answer. The DSII is depicted as having variable-strength firepower. That's not a crazy concept.

??? I must have missed something. Depicted how? In some EU account? There is no dialogue or discussion in the film to indicate that, (eg. "Fire at 1/4 strength, commander!"), the firing sequence as shown is IDENTICAL to ANH... You're just ASSUMING that's the case. FWIW, I totally agree with your logic about variable beam strength/anti ship weaponry, but in reality once a laser burns through a substance, it keeps right on going. But thank you for giving me credit for making up basic physics!

^^ Same here. I recall it was mentioned that ROTJR will be altered more than ANHR & ESBR. So I'm VERY curious about Ady's plans for the Jabba sequence and cannot wait for the eventual thread where we can all discuss it and offer ideas.

Please Please PLEASE let something be done about the Ewoks!! Suspension of disbelief can only go so far, and teddy bears defeating professional soldiers in armor always kicked me right out of the movie.

Hopefully we'll get a sneak peek at the hanger shots as they come together... Can't wait to see what's changed.

I havent seen that clip before. The little explosions as it hits the ground is a neat way to imply serious damage that would make it vulnerable to the speeder's fire. Couldnt really make out the shockwave too well, though it would make sense in that cold, dense air...

Glad to hear there will be craters or visible damage from the Tie bombers! I always figured that the lack of such plus the blue "glowy" nature of the detonations meant they were some sort of "ion bomb" or something, meant either to flush them out or disable them.

Cannot wait to see this!

I know I've watched this last clip of the Hoth escape before, probably on my tablet... First time I've seen it on a decent monitor and WOW. The insane level of detail blows my mind. I hadn't noticed the dust plumes kicked up by the TIE's lasers for example.

I wasn't even this anxious to see something when my kids were born!

Pegg has seen Harmy's editions so I wouldn't be surprised to find out he has seen Ady's as well.

Huh. Pegg comes across as a pretty pasionate SW fanboy... Back in the day, George Harrison threw gobs of money at Monty Python simply because he wanted to see The Life of Brian get made.

If I was a rich guy like Pegg I'd happily be donating HOWEVER many big bags of cash it takes to see this project through! Anyone have his number?
