That looks excellent!
That looks excellent!
Not right now.
If everything else is fine about the eventual official release, it should be very easy for everyone to replace the logos and subtitles using free tools.
I too am not too happy about the publicity but there have been several waves like this and it has always died down. I do give interviews but mostly because I know they’re gonna write their articles anyway and at least that way I can have my say and remind them about the rule to own the official releases and that the amount of people who download these preservations is actually pretty insignificant compared to the amount of people who buy the official releases, not to mention the number of people who illegally download straight rips of the official releases. Plus it helps keep this part of the fanbase happy and buying more Star Wars toys and tickets to new movies, which I’m sure they actually care about much more.
Sure, I have no objections to usenet. 😃
Perhaps that is because Star Wars preservations are the only media you watch where you have any strong preconceptions about what the correct look is.
I have GeForce GTX 970.
Well, actually an iPhone 6 probably has higher screen resolution than 720p, so for that I guess you’d actually be upscaling.
The DVD5s already have pretty heavy mpeg2 compression, so using handbrake to compress them further is a really bad idea - just use handbrake to make re-encodes directly from the MKV or AVCHD - you can set the resolution to the exact resolution of your tablet’s screen and you’ll get much much better quality results with the same or less effort.
As for Mega, the problem with that is that it limits the amount of data you can upload, plus I get much slower upload speed to it.
Like I said, I need to keep the player from that set for 3D playback and stuff, so there seems little point to getting rid of just the speakers. And as I also said, I’m perfectly happy with the sound quality I get from the current setup when playing BD directly through the HT system. It actually packs almost too much punch for my tiny living room and thin walls.
Plus the entire HT setup ran me about $200, so I don’t imagine I could get a very good price for it if I wanted to sell it.

Oh, really? OK, that’d be great.
Oh, right - yeah, I use FFDshow. Already found the settings there. But I suppose I’ll have to switch it back over every time I want to use my PC speakers, huh?
Yeah, sure, the speakers are connected with traditional speaker cables but with proprietary male connectors on the receiver’s end, so I could either cut off the connectors or get new cables. Rither way, the speakers can be connected to a different AVR.
And I currently have what you describe :
A) PC Audio Card -> 5.1 computer speakers.
B) PC Audio Card -> toslink -> Panasonic BD/HT Combo.
C) Panasonic BD/HT -> HMDI -> Projector.
plus
X) PC Video Card -> DisplayPort -> 4K TV
Y) PC Video Card -> HDMI -> 1080p monitor (in dual desktop mode with the 4K TV)
Z) PC Video Card -> DVI-HDMI cable -> Projector (cloned with the smaller monitor)
And what I’d like would be:
PC Audio Card -> 5.1 Computer Speakers. (to be used with X and Y above)
PC Video Card -> HDMI -> AVR -> Speakers/Projector (to be used instead of B and Z)
Pansonic BD/HT Device -> HDMI OUT -> AVR -> Speakers/Projector
And I pretty much had all that figured out, I just need to know really, if (and how) I can get lossless HD audio from the PC that way.
Thank you guys!
I would keep the speakers and the player - the speakers do have proprietary connectors but they connect through standard audio cables - I know this for sure, because I had to extend the length of some of the cables.
And I do still need a BD player as well - for BD3D playback, for stuff that requires a menu, like bonus features and BD Live and stuff and I also need it for when my PC is busy rendering or something and I don’t want to put extra strain on it.
Another problem I have is that I need to still be able to use the normal PC speakers for when I’m not using the projector.
Wow, blast from the past! 😃
This is actually a perfect example of what I’m always saying - you don’t like something about Despecialized, change it to your liking.
Thanks guys!
Yeah, seems you also skipped over the having-only-one-hdmi-connector-in-HT part of my question 😉
I was hoping someone could help me with exactly that - what settings to use to get pass-through.
But it is a hardware issue as well, because you can’t get lossless 5.1/7.1 through toslink.
Since I’m gonna have to do this too, what secondary encoder would u recommend for x264 Harmy?
Well, as you saw, I use x264 with no UI but if you wanted a UI, Handbrake is good, you just have to be careful to turn off all it’s automatic settings, like auto-cropping.
Well, with CBR, you could go even higher for the maxrate and thus get better quality at the same size. And sure, shoot me a PM 😃
CBR is generally a pretty bad idea, because it puts bitrate where it’s not needed and lacks it where it is.
Also, chances are that whatever you used probably uses x264 internally anyway.
The first reel change is after Chewie is put in a cell.
