Another 60s icon is gone. The world is a whole lot less funny now. His Batman series was unavailable on home video for so long that he predicted he would no longer be around to see its release, so he recorded his own commentary tracks on some episodes in case he died before an official release. At least he was able to see that happen, and how much he was loved for it.
The Odd Couple (1968) - 4.5/5
Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are hilarious, and the fact this film starts off with sad suicide jokes and manages to be funny throughout endears it to me. I know a lot of people prefer Jack Klugman and Tony Randall in the roles, but I can’t share that view.

I watched this for Jimmy Stewart, but got weird quasi-documentary quasi-propaganda instead. It would have been better suited for TV, and I wasn’t surprised to learn it was a fairly successful TV show later on.

It’s interesting that he made several hyperbolic statements since the beginning. I’m pretty sure it’s only gotten worse, but you can see the germ of the extremist viewpoints we have today.
Our country is now run by extremists who are hell bent on setting humanity onto its darkest possible future.
Why does no one get that?

I recently returned to social media (meaning Facebook) after leaving in January, but my obsessive need to check it every 10 minutes became annoying, depressing, and emotionally draining, so I essentially locked myself out of it. It sucks that the reason I had to quit returned so soon after I returned.
Does the 2006 SE DVD contain the original unedited 1997 release? Trying to find the original and have heard the 2006 SE DVD has it.

What? It has an old Laserdisc master of the unaltered 1977 cut, but the 1997SE was never released on DVD.
I felt they handled it as flawlessly as possible, and in a way that was both humorous and made sense. It was Enterprise that got it wrong.
And yet, they weren’t done well. One mediocre aspect can’t save a flood of awful.
The entire concept of a “Day of Absence” “in which white people were invited to leave campus for a day” is just stupid.
That worked well 50 years ago.
Nice to see an improved first impression. Was that stuff archived? I’d be interested in maybe a retrospective on the GOUT release, and that stuff played a pivotal role.
