If ID laws are made, a new ID system should be rolled out, similar to how it’s done in countries all around the world at the moment. That doesn’t seem to be the plan, however.

The Washington Post said:
“In Switzerland, every registered voter is sent a registration card prior to an election, and if the voter brings her registration card to the polling place, no additional identification is needed.”

“Canada permits any voter who lacks one of the allowed forms of photo identification to present two of forty-five other forms of identification or documentation that have the voter’s name and address on at least one. Acceptable documents include leases, student transcripts, and utility bills.”

Sweden’s policy is a bit more vague, requiring that a “voter who is not known to the voting clerks [produce] an identity document or in another way verify her or his identity.”

“India allows the use of fifteen different types of identification, ranging from property documents to arms licenses to income tax identity cards. Included, too, are forms of identification most likely to be possessed by the poor… For instance, voters can present ration cards issued to the poor to allow them to buy food staples and kerosene oil at subsidized prices.”

That’s in addition to many countries that don’t require ID to vote, such as “Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom (with the exception of Northern Ireland),” the authors wrote.

They also pointed out that in many other countries, it’s much easier to obtain identification than it is in the United States because ID cards are issued to all citizens automatically:

“Countries such as Spain, Greece, France, Malta, Belgium, and Italy provide national identity documents to their citizens to use for many purposes, including travel, banking, and healthcare access as well as voting.”

I didn’t notice any of that, I was just looking at the rug:

Joke’s on me.

Well, isn’t there a standing White House set in Hollywood that many productions have used over the years? Oliver Stone’s Nixon came out the year before ID4, so maybe they just used the same carpet.

Perhaps, that probably explains why it’s pretty much an exact replica of that specific rug.

JEDIT: You were right!

Yeah, somehow this always seemed more right for the Oval office to me.(by right I mean as opposed to wrong, and not as in right wing)

IMHO this was the best ever Oval Office carpet but sadly it was destroyed in a fire soon after…

When was that pic taken? What Presidency? How was it destroyed by fire? I don’t remember a fire happening in the White House since the one during the War of 1812.

That is Nixon’s (and Gerald Ford’s for awhile) Oval Office. I hadn’t heard about the fire part, your Oval Office pic was Clinton’s.

But if they don’t like Hillary, why would they vote for her? I don’t understand this logic. If they don’t like her, they probably wouldn’t have voted for her regardless of who else is on the ticket, and most likely did not think Trump was that bad. Furthermore, frankly it’s long overdue a third party had power in government. I do not see how not voting for your candidate is childish.

Random Pictures and Gifs (now with winning!) [NSFW]
Time

I’m getting rid of my one and only smartphone as soon as it stops working. I’ve had it since 2013, when it goes I’m getting a flip phone. Can’t stand going to social events to find everyone on their phone, taking videos or pictures or whatever, instead of just having a normal conversation.

At the Oscars, there were shots of people holding up their phones for video, which I found ridiculous. It’s a TELEVISED EVENT, don’t worry, it’s being recorded professionally. Nothing you do will look any better. What’s the point?

Ugh, I hate these things.

That was a very clear, articulate, and well-thought-out response. I have not seen all of the Best Picture winners, only about half, and haven’t had a chance to even see Moonlight, so I’ll take your word for it. It’s not an issue I take much time to think about, honestly, so the added clarification was helpful. My thought-process allowed an accurate prediction, though of course everything is always more complicated than that.

Considering #OscarsSoWhite, sure. I don’t know what the big deal is, considering many thinkpieces were written saying it would lose just because it was a mostly black cast.

I can’t help but wonder if Moonlight were centered around a white gay teenager would it receive more praise than it is now?

What does it mean, “I didn’t want to go there”? The racial politics is pretty much the big conversation in Hollywood right now. 12 Years a Slave won on racial politics alone, as some of the people who voted for it hadn’t even seen it.

All the same, two Oscar voters privately admitted that they didn’t see ‘12 Years a Slave,’ thinking it would be upsetting. But they said they voted for it anyway because, given the film’s social relevance, they felt obligated to do so.”

Ellen Degeneres said:
“Possibility number one: ‘12 Years a Slave’ wins Best Picture. Possibility number two: You’re all racists.”

So what’s the big deal in bringing up two films about race? I’m not saying anything about the actual quality of the films, this is just the mentality of Hollywood at the moment.

I expected Moonlight to win, but I’m being told it was a shock. I don’t understand, had the ceremony taken place in early January instead of late February, La La Land would have won. As time went on, I saw a lot of hype for Moonlight leading up to the ceremony that it became expected. The switcheroo was a shock, though. But calling the win “monumental” is a bit over-the-top.

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread

I’m invited to a Star Wars marathon, and they insist on starting with the prequels. Not only that, but they will defend the prequels. Thankfully I convinced them to use Harmy’s Despecialized for the OT. Since they don’t care either way for the alterations (though I wish they did), I was able to get my way.

I just wish I didn’t have to waste 6 hours on the PT. I watched the Holiday Special today to brace myself, but I found the Holiday Special much more enjoyable than AOTC and ROTS. Why am I surrounded by people who call ROTS their favorite of the series?

"As far as I know, there’s only one person who could make this happen and he hasn’t seemed all that interested."
I don’t think he’s talking about George. I think he’s referring to a studio big wig. That’s just my two cents on
that. Anyways, the Episode III extra has spoken

My thing with Lucas holding it up is that Disney was able to drop his treatments and have JJ and Kasden do what they wanted.

Also, George told John Landis that Disney was going to put out the original versions, which directly conflicts with what Pablo is saying (if he’s referring to George).

Source?
