Simpsons Season 6
Time
I thought season 6 was the Simpsons season that ended with "Who Shot Mr. Burns?" Part 1.

I used to really like the Simpsons but I lost interest in it during the 1996-1997 season. It felt like they had jumped the shark by that point. I also used to really like That 70s Show, but alas, it's in the Old Yeller phase.

I don't watch much TV these days, so I haven't had time to partake of Family Guy.

I haven't seen this new version, but I've heard the white on white look of the original has been altered using CGI and that many sequences have been redone with CGI. Not only this, but I heard that Lucas went so completely bananas that he actually altered the performances of the actors. Using the computer, he apparently made Duvall roll his eyes- digitally! "We made him roll his eyes because we didn't have the technology to do that back in the 70's." Give me a break.

Also, the rating was changed from PG to R- was there a reason for that? Did GL add more sexual material or violence? Anyhow, I thought so few people liked THX that it wouldn't be worth it to pour more money into this.

Thoughts by people who have seen both versions?

I was only able to see the director's cut and not the original so I can't compare. The CGI sequences look crappy but the film as a whole is not completely without interest.

Bruce Campbell: The Greatest Actor of All Time?

Campbell rules, hands down. And doesn't seem to take himself too seriously, which is a good thing.

They're talking about Army of Darkness 4, but I hope they don't wait too long. He's starting to show his age.

Isn't this one of those things where they released "Army of Darkness" (technically Evil Dead 3, which would make another installment Evil Dead 4) at the wrong time (February instead of summer) resulting in not having enough of an audience available?

Dark City 1998
Time
Has anyone seen the 1998 fantasy/sci-fi feature Dark City by Alex "The Crow" Proyas? I just watched it, and I swear the Matrix ripped it off (then again, DC probably ripped off some other stuff as well).

The Plot:John Murdoch awakens alone in a strange hotel to find that he has lost his memory and is wanted for a series of brutal and bizarre murders. While trying to piece together his past, he stumbles upon a fiendish underworld controlled by a group of beings known as The Strangers who possess the ability to put people to sleep and alter the city and its inhabitants. Now Murdoch must find a way to stop them before they take control of his mind and destroy him.

Whedon VS Lucas

I'm not trying to start a whole Firefly/Serenity thread here, but I came across this quote in an interview with Joss Whedon and I thought it was really great to share.

“It has always been my ambition to never have a director’s cut, that the best movie I can put out is the one I’m putting out,” says the filmmaker. “Even though I took things out, I did it for a reason. There’s an old saying amongst writers and directors: Kill your children. If it’s not working, pull them.”

The full interview can be found here: Link

I thought this statement from Joss was absolutely awesome. Finally we got someone who's got his head screwed on straight. Lucas needs to listen to this dude.

So, what do you guys think? Think Joss's movie is gonna kick the living shit out of Star Wars? Probably not, methinks, but I'm rooting for the guy. I want someone to come along and do something that leaves Lucas in the dust.

There are many films that leave Lucas in the dust. Try the Lord of the Ring films, for example.

What id Star Wars was never made?
Time
I imagine that if Star Wars hadn't been made, then the 1978 Superman film would probably now take the blame for ruining cinema by making escapist fantasy big business.

Hollywood filmmaking was bound to change sooner or later, and Star Wars just happened to be there to take credit for the change. Without it though, I imagine the Star Trek film adaptations made between 1979-2002 would not have come to pass, nor would the Indiana Jones trilogy be present.

Why no mention of "Sith" in Episodes IV-VI?

Hey, new to the site and sorry if this question has been asked before. I did a quick search and couldn't find anything, not used to this forum software.

I've wondered since I saw the first prequel why there was no mention of Sith in episodes IV-VI. Was this something Lucas thought up after the original trilogy? As well as the rules, such as "there can be only two"? Seems strange that such an important and fundamental structure of the antagonistic element was never mentioned...

Plot holes, my friend. They're all over the place.

Or perhaps George Lucas has alzheimers and it simply hasn't been officially confirmed.
