Why is Princess Leia the only main character who gets shot by the otherwise aim impaired Storm Troopers?
Time
We all know that the henchmen and underlings can never seem to aim straight when they start shooting at the heroes - not even when they're as big as Dolph Lundgren - but in Star Wars, the Storm Troopers manage only twice to successfully shoot a main character, and it happens to be the same main character: Princess Leia. Leia gets shot down while making a run for it in the opening of A New Hope (it was only a stunner shot but it probably still gave her a headache) and then in Return of the Jedi Leia gets shot in the arm during the Endor battle. Although Han, Luke, Chewbacca, and even Lando take some abuse, they never get shot by the Storm Troopers.

Does that strike anyone else here as being not kosher?

Chris Masterson is the younger brother of Danny Masterson, Laura's co-star from "That 70s Show".

I hate headaches in general.

I hate family vacations.

I hate Wikipedia putting me on a month long ban because I uploaded an image of Laura Prepon from her red haired glory days. I swear guys, don't EVER try to upload an image at Wikipedia, those bastards will treat you like a crap.

Wikipedia says Laura converted to Scientology (of course, I'm losing faith in Wikipedia seeing as how they put a ban on me just for trying to upload images of Alicia Witt and the aforementioned Laura Prepon - and they STILL don't have any pics of Alicia Witt on the Alicia Witt page). I guess the blonde hair dye made her stupid. It makes me wonder... where are the Nicole Kidmans of the world, the women who stood and said "NO!" when their significant others tried to convert them to Scientology?

As for a Wonder Woman movie, I'd like to see one too, but I'd be afraid that it would be another Catwoman.
I think the problem is that for many people (i.e the general public) it would be a big screen movie of an old 70s TV show rather than a comic adaptation. The same with X-Men - for a lot of people it was a movie of a TV show (hence Wolverine's popularity and top billing). If they had made a true X-Men origin movie, the general public would have said 'huh? Iceman? Wasn't he one of Spiderman's friends from that cartoon? And isn't Beast supposed to be blue? Where's Wolverine?' etc.

Yeah. That may be the truth, but it bites.

A well done Wonder Woman movie would be nice, so long as they remember to let Wonder Woman fly naturally as she flies in the modern comic books. There is no way to make the Invisible Jet work in this day and age. If they put the Invisible Jet into a Wonder Woman film, it's gonna turn into a camp fest.

They took out the good stuff from the comic book, like the part where the alien beats Captain America down and tells him to surrender, and Captain says: "What do you think this letter on my head stands for? FRANCE?!?!" Then beats the crap out of the alien.

I really wanted to see that.

That sounds good. I bought the DVD and that would have been funny to see in there. The way they draw Captain America without the mask, they make him look like Duke from the GI Joe cartoons of yore.

For some reason, I feel like watching Captain America fight the Predator.

Superman 2 The Donner Cut

Richard Donner’s Superman II

The Man of Steel’s second live-action adventure of 2006 has been nearly 30 years in the making

The Holy Grail of Superman history will be unveiled this fall with the DVD release of Richard Donner’s version of Superman II. Here’s a quick history lesson to put that statement in perspective: Back in the 1970s, Donner was shooting Superman: The Movie simultaneously with its sequel, but to meet the first film’s December 1978 release date, he focused on that effort, leaving the second incomplete. Donner’s acrimonious relationship with the film’s producers resulted in his being replaced by Richard Lester, who completed the sequel, jettisoning much of Donner’s footage and reshooting certain sequences to reflect his own directorial sensibilities.

Overseeing the film’s DVD version, and working in conjunction with Donner himself, is producer/editor Michael Thau, who also oversaw the production of the Superman : The Movie DVD.

MOVIE MAGIC: How much of Superman II had Dick Donner shot?

MICHAEL THAU: Dick shot almost exactly 75% of his Superman II script. In November of last year, we brought over six tons of Superman II film that had been sitting in a vault in England. We started laboriously going through it, pulling together scenes that were going to be the hardest to cut. When I’d get a cut on a scene, I’d show it to Dick and he’d say, "I don’t like that line; that reading’s not good" and so on. With Dick it’s always, "Make it move faster."

MOVIE MAGIC: I’d read an interview with him in which he said certain scenes were lost, such as when Lois tries to prove that Clark is Superman by firing a gun at him.

MICHAEL: Nothing was lost. That scene was actually never shot, but he did shoot it back in early 1977 as part of screentests, one for Reeve, and another, three months later, for Margot Kidder. We managed to put together a scene that has Chris from the early screentest and Margot from the later screentest.

MOVIE MAGIC: I assume you’re using Lester footage to finish the other 25% of the film?

MICHAEL: Yes, but it’s less than 25%. The plot is essentially the same, but the tone is much more like a part two of the first film. Donner’s humor is completely different from Lester’s. I’m not saying that Lester’s stuff is not funny, but it’s a different type of humor. Our intent was to make things more real and not keep undercutting the tension with comedy.

MOVIE MAGIC: The real question, of course, is whether or not you’ll restoring scenes with Marlon Brando as Jor-El, which were cut from Lester’s version over money issues between the producers and Brando.

MICHAEL: That issue is being addressed and negotiations are continuing, I will, however, say there are three scenes with Marlon Brando that absolutely anchor this film. They’re insane, wonderful Superman scenes, and that footage has not been seen by anyone for 25 years. Actually, there’s a lot that hasn’t been seen, but that’s the crown jewel of this film.

MOVIE MAGIC: It sounds like this Superman II is going to be entirely different than the first version of it.

MICHAEL: The people who have seen it have said it truly feels like part two of the first film, which was the intent all along. I think there are going to be some wonderful surprises for everyone.

Sounds cool.

I'm re-reading Kevin Smith's Green Arrow: Quiver. Great book - worth it just for the first three pages - the most kick-ass Superman/Batman dialogue ever IMHO.

I'll keep an eye out for it.

Has anyone read the Superman/Shazam: First Thunder miniseries?

I don't know why, but I wish they'd do a mini-series focusing on Superman working with the Martian Manhunter. Something about them being the last survivors of their respective races makes me feel like there should be a mini-series focusing just on them working together. DC could call it The Last Sons.

Haven't read the Superman/Shazam books at all. But your Martian Manhunter/Superman idea is brilliant. I've seen the parallels highlighted before in a few books I've read, but it hasn't really been capitalised on. MM is such a cool character, it's good to see he's getting his own series again. I just hope they do justice to the character.

Thanks redbaron. Martian Manhunter is a very cool character; he reminds me of the Silver Surfer in some ways, but that's another discussion (some think he's more the quivalent of the Vision from the Avengers). You might think me crazy, but I suspect that the Martian Manhunter must feel somewhat envious towards Superman, envious of how happy and at home Superman feels on Earth even though it is not his home planet, a feeling that MM himself will probably never attain.

I'd love to see a movie about the Martian Manhunter's exploits, but it may never happen, not in my lifetime at least. If they do a Justice League film they should include him in that.

So... who here has seen the direct to DVD animated feature of the Ultimate Avengers? (Forgive me if this was discussed already)

Yeah, basically. Mark's pretty geeked out about comic books. Who better to ask than him? ^_^

I think that the reason most people like other comic book characters over Superman, is because he's too much of a boy scout. He has not inner turmoil that makes him cool. Plus, unlike the other superheroes, we can't achive his status. He's an alien. At least with Spider-Man or the X-Men we could have a chance, and with Batman we could be just like him too, but Superman? No. We really can't be him.

So the only way for Superman to be cool is to have him act like a pretentious prick?

I'm not even a Superman fan, but now I'm looking forward to the movie.

I'm more of a Batman fan. I wonder if A&E did a similar special with Batman when "Batman Begins" was out in theaters.

Apparently everyone is more of a Batman fan or an X-Men fan or a Spider-Man fan. Everyone seems to be a fan of every character EXCEPT Superman.

What was Mark Hamill doing in a special about Superman?

Speaking of Superman, has anyone seen the Max Fleischer Superman cartoons? I hear there's going to be a big gift box released of them soon. Ironically, the post Max Fleischer Superman costume looks exactly the Kingdom Come Superman costume.

Also the Batman Beyond episode "The Call".

Does that mean he would have aged more slowly on Krypton as well, or is it all just because of our yellow sun?
