Sky Captain and the World of tomorrow!!! Seen the Trailer?!?
Time
Finally got around to seeing this (took the kids tonight) and... it's good. It's not the best movie I've seen this year, but it is definitely one of the most amazing ones to look at this year. Kerry Conran and his team have so completely nailed the look and feel of a 30s style serial, and it gives you that giddy feeling you got when watching Raiders of the Lost Ark for the first time. To those who were concerned that this would look colourised, I can tell you that the overall effect is more of old-fashioned colour tinting done by hand; there seems to be a real artistry to how the colour was done rather than the guesswork that dominates the colourisation process.

On the down side, Gwyneth seems slightly miscast. In a role that is supposed to be brassy and gutsy, she often comes off as whiny, but this is a small quibble in an otherwise solid film. ***1/2 out of *****

Team America: World Police
Time
Update: apart from getting their R (they had to excise segments of the 3 & 1/2 minute sex scene, as well as part of a scene where Kim Jong-Il feeds Hans Blix to his shark tank), the sneak of Team America ran this weekend. What can I tell you about it? From what I've seen, Parker & Stone are back in fine form; the character of the actor is appearing in 'Lease: The Musical' when he is recruited by Team America, and the typical shenanigans ensue. No target is safe, either left or right.
