Ewan McGregor being blamed for failure of "The Island" by producers (along with the Johanasson girl)
Time
Everyone wants to blame somebody for a bomb, but the truth is, it all comes down to the producers, the director, the screenwriter(s) and the studio. The studio is to blame for greenlighting the thing. The screenwriter is to blame for failing to produce a decent script (don't get me started on originality). The director is to blame for failing to interpret the script properly (or failing to realise that it was a piece of shite and should never have been made in the first place). Finally, the producers are to blame for failing to keep a tighter rein on production and not saying no to the egotistical director often enough.

Finally, if the actors are actually to blame, they can usually be sacked, right?

*Gets off soapbox.*

THE ALL NEW PSYCHO REVIEW HAS MOVED
Time
Here goes. Just picked up The Muppet Show: Season One. BVHE has done a bang-up job with this set of 4 discs, going back to the original PAL masters, so the show looks as good as you remember, if not better. As with all first seasons, the episodes tend to be hit-and-miss, but I'm pleased to report that it's a lot more hit than miss. Examples of guest stars in the first season include Juliet Prowse (with the immortal Mahna Mahna sketch), Phyllis Diller, Vincent Price, Joel Grey and Mummenschanz. If you are any sort of a Muppet fan, I have 5 words for you:

GO. PICK. THIS. UP. NOW.

I now return control to DAYV.

Harry Potter *Spoilers* (Serious Discussions Only, No Flaming)
Time
I did a bad thing today. My kids were bugging me to find out who gets killed at the end of the book (one's reading it, the other one is in line to read it next). I told them that it was Gilderoy Lockhart who got killed, that he was a Death Eater all along, and had used his skill with memory charms to conceal that fact. I also told them that the other Death Eaters had conspired to spring him from St. Mungo's and had successfully broken the memory charms on him so that he could remember. When they asked me who killed him, I told them it was Neville.

Gee, ain't I a stinker?

Yes, they believed me.

Don't forget that Regulus was also a Death Eater, which makes even more sense if you think about it. Maybe he finally realised the error of his ways, and was killed by Voldemort after Voldemort realised what Black had done. Just a thought.

Will...er, I mean Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Time
I've said this before and I'll say it again: the character should have been played by Rowan Atkinson, and they should have digitally shrunk him so he would be 4 feet tall, like in the book. Why Atkinson? He has the perfect balance of menace and childlike innocence, as exemplified by his Black Adder and Mr. Bean characters.

That being said, I will probably go see this just to get a load of Burton's beautiful visuals.
