Nah, 2 years ago the same thing happened with FOTR and A Beautiful Behind (as I like to call it). Anyone who's going to give best adapted screenplay to the man who inflicted us with Batman & Robin deserves an extremely severe punishment.

Movies always oversimplify anyways. I concur with Bossk; read Timeline. The way it describes time travel boggles the mind.

Maybe if Revenge had been retained, we would have seen Luke come dangerously close to the dark side before realising its power and embarking on an attempt to bring his father back. We'll never know.

Maybe it's something about sequels with the word "Return" in them: Return of the King, Return of the Jedi, Batman Returns; none of these are terrible films, but they lack something in comparison to the films that immediately precede them.

And that is precisely the problem with AMPAS. Why not reward the films and actors on a case-by-case basis, instead of "Here's your Oscar; we're really sorry you didn't win the last 2 times." So much glad-handing and predictability. To paraphrase the Comic Store Guy "Worst. Oscars. Ever."
I also liked Bossk's idea of a Special Achievement Oscar; it would have been much more palatable than giving Best Picture to the weakest film in the trilogy.
