Old Special Effects Vs New Special Effects
Time
I will continue to stand my position that the only way that CG effects truly work is in conjunction with miniature work and mechanical effects. CG continues to disappoint in the "realism" department (see the latest trailer for The Polar Express for a good example; 4 years after Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and they still haven't solved the "dead eye" problem), but as a supplement to other effects, it is very useful.

Cliches that need to stop
Time
That last one reminded me of one of my favourite scenes in Van helsing. One of the vampire brides is about to kill Anna Valerious and goes into a long soliloquy about how she's going to enjoy killing her. Anna manages to signal to the friar to throw her a stake and promptly stabs her in the chest, saying, "If you're going to kill someone, do it; don't just stand around talking about it." A nice way of subverting cliche.

Fahrenheit 9/11
Time
And, as Kenobi said after that, "You will find that many things depend on our point of view." Nothing Michael Moore, the 9/11 Commission, or any organisation on either the right or left should be taken as the gospel truth. I always take Moore's arguments with a grain of salt, as I do any strong point of view, because certain facts are always going to slip under the radar. Perhaps his reason for leaving the one senator who said he would send his children to Iraq out of the film was because it didn't follow the trend of statements from the rest, and as such would stick out like a sore thumb, leading people to believe that more than that one senator would support such a decision.

For the record, I consider myself to be a moderate conservative, and look on Fahrenheit 9/11 as a continuation of Moore's argument in Bowling for Columbine, which is that the United States has systematically developed a culture of fear, a position you will find that many moderate conservatives agree with.

Funniest Movie Ever
Time
This disc is a great package. WS film in 5.1, scene specific commentary by Brooks, docs on the film and the late, great Madeleine Kahn, deleted scenes (which were included in the TV print; there's an alternate take of the farting scene where the noises are replaced by animal noises) and... the pilot of the TV series Black Bart, starring Louis Gossett as Bart. Good stuff.

Music!

Another great softer Train song is Something More. Also Look What You've Done by Jet, Say Your Prayers and Stumbling Through the Dark by The Jayhawks, Remember by Josh Groban (best thing about the movie Troy) and Everything You've Done Wrong by Sloan (featured in The Virgin Suicides).
