What do you want to happen in the the rest of the ST?

TCW and the nuEU have more-or-less adopted yellow as a less common third colour for Jedi lightsabers, so seeing Rey with a yellow lightsaber wouldn’t be all that impressive for me. And Mace Windu had his purple lightsaber, so likewise it wouldn’t be very impressive to me to see Rey with that colour either.

I’d like to see her with a teal or orange lightsaber – both lightsaber colours no character in the new canon has used thus far.

Actually one of the siths in the SW fanfilm Contract of Evil had a orange lightsaber so that has already been done(although it was admittedly a none profit kind of fanfiction unlike the EU).

I’ve been debating where Ep 7 should fit in the scheme of things. In my numbering it marks the 10th or 11th film in the series so here is my order.

 1. The Empire Strikes Back (SE)
 2. The Empire Strikes Back (Original)
 3. Star Wars/A New Hope (Original)
 4. Return of the Jedi (Original)
 5. Return of the Jedi (SE)
 6. A New Hope (SE)
 7. Revenge of the Sith
 8. The Phantom Menace
 9. Attack of the Clones
 10. The Force Awakens

I do seriously think the changes (except the line change about R2 not tasting very good) to TESB improved it. I think the changes to ANH really damage the flow of the story. I like the addition of Jabba and Biggs, but the early changes just don’t fit and Greedo shooting at all just derails the story in the middle. ROTJ’s changes don’t add anything and Jedi Rocks and change to the ending detract enough to pull it down.

I like the Prequels, probably because I am a big fan of classic Hollywood movies and I see a real similarity in the type of story (including the comic relief characters). ROTS is the best of the PT. TPM has some good points and is fun. ATOC has issues and is a good middle chapter but not good on its own.

I have issues with TFA. On the surface it is very polished and the art direction and characters is perfect for the Star Wars universe, but the story fails in many ways. I don’t like the lack of explanation. Lucas managed to throw in a line or two that said volumes about what was going on and TFA lacks that brilliant exposition. In Lucas’s 6 films, everything that happens is very clear, but in TFA, things are vague and the story confusing. Knowing what Abrams is capable of in the TV realm makes it even more frustrating that the fantastic character development seen in Lost is mostly lacking. I think what they needed was a TESB type movie, not an ANH type movie. I’m hoping Rian Johnson can deliver something better. His work so far has been excellent and if he works on the same scope we could be looking forward to two awesome movies. I’m not expecting them to eclipse the OT, but eclipsing the PT would be nice.

So what about TPM(SE). Yes that exists.

Flaws, plotholes, and "could-have-been-done-betters" in the OT (alternate plot points especially welcome)

The fact that Leia loses her planet is extremely under used in her characterization. For ANH, that’s okay or whatever, because it’s a standalone fantasy fun adventure film. We don’t want a moping Princess being saved. But still. In ESB, there is no mention, same with ROTJ. Unfortunate. (On a similar note some people criticize Luke’s lack of reaction to his family’s death, but I think the fact that it provokes him to join the rebellion is about enough.)

There are also a large number of character and story problems with ROTJ, but these have been discussed at length.

As well, the acting isn’t perfect. I have arguments with my friends often about what is the best film trilogy and I always say the OT, but I always have to concede acting to stuff like LOTR, The Godfather, The Dark Knight, etc.

I don’t know he seemed to wanna join the rebellion long before that happened but could not since his uncle would not allow it.

Seriously, where did all the PT fans come from? I thought they had been wiped out by Plinkett.

Except that Plinket is a HORRIBLE reviewer. I know allot of other people who dislike the prequels but none of them make as bad of an argument as he does.

He’s pretty much saying what most people say when they shit on the PT so I don’t really see your point.

Actually their is a comic book reviewer called Linkara who does not like the prequels either. He however described Qui-Gone Jinn as a a inconsiderate daredevil who never trusts anybody but himself(I should also note that the guy considers Qui-Gone Jinn to be the worst Jedie ever).

As somebody who does not hate Jinn I can still agree.

How did Stoklasa and his gang describe the guy.

As stoic and nothing else. Pfft amateurs.

My controversial list:

 1. Revenge of the Sith

The way it neatly ties up the whole saga with a little bow just slightly edges it into first place. The final confrontation between Anakin and Obi-Wan is what the whole prequel trilogy has been leading to, and George Lucas did not disappoint, especially when it is finished and Obi-Wan is on the verge of tears. Just a really good, underrated movie. A-

 1. The Empire Strikes Back

What more is there to say that hasn’t been said already? The pacing is great, the direction is great, the acting is great. A couple of bumps along the way, but as a whole, this movie is really great. A-

 1. Attack of the Clones

Yes, Attack of the Clones, the really bad one, at number three. That’s because of the whole Kamino sideplot, which really just hearkens back to old mystery and detective novels. The whole Kamino plot is just facinating and always keeps my attention. It also helps that it puts my favourite Star Wars character in the spotlight, Obi-Wan. Sure, the romance is very weak and awkward, as are the characters of Anakin and Padme, but the rest of the film more than makes up for this. B+

 1. Return of the Jedi

This movie is pretty good all around, but the laziness of the plot really doesn’t help. A second Death Star, really? The tone of the movie is also all over the place, cutting from dark moments back to lighthearted silly moments with the Ewoks. A good movie, with some major flaws. B

 1. The Force Awakens

This movie is also a good film, with its major problem being a lack of originality. The idea of Starkiller Base is just really stale, and when it blows up, I didn’t feel anything. The character of Poe is who we’re supposed to root for during those scenes, but he was barely even in the film, so I couldn’t form a connection to him. The characters of Rey and Finn fare much better, and Kylo Ren is a really interesting character, who I can’t wait to see in later episodes. B

 1. A New Hope

I am in the minority here, but I don’t think this movie is all that great. It has some really great moments, sure, but the overall story is very generic and boring. Darth Vader in this film is a generic bad guy, as is Tarkin, and neither of which ever interact with the protagonist, Luke. Ben Kenobi is just made to spout off exposition about the force the whole time, and when he dies, I don’t care. The lightsaber fight between him and Darth is also laughably bad, as not only is it visually boring, but I don’t care about either of the characters. It’s good, but very overrated. B-

 1. The Phantom Menace

This film is not only bad, but is extremely boring as well. All of the characters are boring, and my favourite, Obi-Wan gets nothing to do. Both Anakin and Jar Jar annoy me to hell, and they are the best characters in the movie. The story is also bogged down in politics and trade debates, which is not what a Star Wars film should be. C-

Honestly this is a much safer place to express your opinion then TFN.forums.

Would you want to see Anakin or Obi Wan in the new trilogy, portrayed by their PT actors?

Ryan McAvoy said:

Would anybody like to see that annoyingly missing movie between AOTC and ROTS, where we actually would have seen Ben and Anakin’s friendship and seen all the stuff that Alec Guinness aludes to in SW.

I kinda wouldn’t mind that. Like is said above, give both actors a fair chance at playing the characters with good dialogue, a good story and good direction.

Well they short of already did that story. It is called the clone wars and while not live action it still canon(at least the new series). Doing it again in live action would be redundant.

I hate to sound like a reversed Mr. Plinket but the one scene that always bugs the hell out of me is the scene were instead of killing the Wampa and staying in the cave on hoth, Luke runs into the snowstorm like an idiot and almost gets himself killed.

Luke Skywalker is the main character and either Lucas,Kershner or Kasdan(also why does the spell checker put a red bar below Kershner and Kasdan, I even went on the internet to see how their names are spelled and I still get a red bar) made him look stupid.

I guess after the prequels and SE most people are gonna assume that it is Lucas fault.

What is wrong with... Attack of the Clones? - a general discussion thread

lovelikewinter said:

The biggest flaw in the Prequels is that we never saw Anakin and Obi-Wan’s friendship. In Clones they were apart for 80% of it and bitchy the other 20%.

The bad dialog, bad direction, bad acting (from people who can do better), bad special effects and the horrible digital medium it was shot on all add up to a crappy movie.

OP might be happier on the PTAS with the other tasteless plebs.

PTAS?
