This definitely needed to be dredged up again.

You do realize that not everyone checks the forums all day everyday, and that when you click on a thread it takes you to your earliest unread post, right?

So people reading through what they’ve missed so far might have input on something somebody said. It’s not unreasonable.

Yes, let’s just revive all the crap that has been resolved days ago, just because some people can’t first read through a thread and then post. This kind of redundancy is the reason why there are so many new pages every day in the first place.

But he was replying to something from only 7 hours prior, not days. With that logic no one can post in the morning, go to work, and reply after work to a conversation they missed.

If it’s only seven hours, there’s also less new posts to catch up on, right? And if a mod already stepped in, there is no need to further defend oneself. All it does is revive the argument.

The Last Jedi: Official Review and Opinions Thread ** SPOILERS **

It has been posted before, but it seems it needs to be posted again:

http://birthmoviesdeath.com/2017/12/20/the-curious-case-of-the-last-jedi-and-its-rotten-tomatoes-audience-score

From that article:

“Because there’s a company called comScore that provides exit poll surveys that, while it is an opt in survey, is one that adjusts to reflect the movie going population. […] comScore surveys almost a thousand audience members in 20 markets immediately after they view the film, including The Last Jedi. […] this data shows the audience liked The Last Jedi a great deal. Rating a movie as either “excellent” or “very good” tends to be the key metric in most Hollywood evaluation of content, both in testing and in exit polls. Anything over a score of 80 in the “top two boxes” is concerned a great score, and The Last Jedi has a top two box score of 89.”

Could they have REDACTED make a REDACTED based on REDACTED??? - Minor TLJ Spoiler

Minor Spoiler

I think he’s not talking about the chance of finding an exit at the end of a randomly selected tunnel in this specific cave, but about the chance of being in a cave with an uncharted secondary exit. Basically, he knows of 14284 (or a multiple X of that number) cases in which a group of people were in a similar cave with the only known entrance blocked, and only in one (or the same X as before) of the cases, they found another exit.

YouTube likes and dislikes do not prove anything.

Just like selectively edited videos do not prove anything.

At this stage I feel like you just don’t want them to prove anything. How can 10s of thousands of people liking videos that talk about disliking TLJ not mean that these same people also dislike the movie? It’s like saying the 67,000 people that have signed that petition doesn’t prove that 67,000 people dislike the movie? At this point it just feels like you simply don’t want to acknowledge that there is a large amount of genuine negativity towards the movie.

All I was initially trying to say is that I’ve seen enough signs everywhere to indicate there is a significant percentage of the audience that didn’t like the movie. With YouTube I was able to actually provide some numbers so it was the example I used. If you want to ignore that and live in a world where you think it’s just a few haters brewing up all this controversy then so be it.

You still haven’t directly answered my original post either that you wrongly attributed to me trying to somehow say this proved the movie was bad? And now that I’ve directly confronted you on the matter I get the feeling you’re going to start attacking me rather than just admitting you posted wrongly and moving on.

I get it that you liked the movie, that’s fine though I don’t understand how you do, much like you dont understand how I would place TLJ below the prequels. I’m not trying to change your mind on the movie, instead just pointing out not to discredit the fact there are many that dislike the movie and that there is evidence out there to support this if you are willing to see it.

.Val

No one doubts that a bunch of people dislike the movie and go to great lenghts to show it. Signing a petition? Because you don’t like a movie? Really?

That’s still no sign that these people are a “significante percentage of the audience”. Only a small fraction of people who watched the movie also want to watch a youtube review of it, and only a small fraction of people who watch a youtube video care enough to hit the like or dislike button. Someone who generally liked the movie, but isn’t entirely happy with some parts will definitely not watch a bunch of reviews and feel the need to let others know about his opinion of that opinion of the movie. And people who loved the movie are probably busy watching it again, instead of wasting their time on youtube going through negative reviews and hitting dislike. And finally, people like or dislike youtube videos for more reasons than just agreeing with the opinion of the video. I can see people who like the movie upvote even a negative review of TLJ, like RLM’s, for appreciating that it actually talked about the movie and avoided this toxic “Disney has an anti-men agenda” bullcrap.

Regarding JMSW, Frink wasn’t the only one who suspected him to be JMOW, yet noone received even a warning. It was just stated that he’s not a sock and that calling him a sock will no longer be accepted. And I think Frink stopped after that.

There was also the username thread incident, but then again, Frink was not warned individually, only a vague “you” group.

Yes. I just don’t see the “everyone is treated equally; if you break the rules, you get a warning, then a temp-ban, then a permanent ban” thing being applied as it was announced a while back.

I think we should wait for Frink to return from his temp-ban before we continue to condemn anyone else or go on endless conjecture.

What’s the problem with “condemning anyone else?”

I don’t think that’s very fair to do if they are not here to defend themselves. I’m fairly certain everyone we’re talking about doesn’t visit this section of the forum.

That’s their problem. You can send them a PM and direct them here. It’s not like we registered on a different forum to talk about them behind their backs.

Also, you neglect to mention the fact that someone else broke a rule, which according to Jay’s rules, is punishable by an permanent and immediate ban with no prior warning.

I thought we already discussed that some people may not necessarily consider it a slur when applied abstractly or not directed at a real person.

So, calling Finn the n-word is fine, as he’s only a character, not a real person?

Well, I’m hopeful for a Frink more similar to the good ol’ days. We ought to be able to let one another know if we have a problem with something another party has said in gentle, civil manner, at least as a first response. Frink has a reputation for gunning it from 0 to 60 and stifles discussion. To be honest, I’ve often refrained from posting in threads, usually posted by the uninitiated, about topics outside of his liking, just to avoid having more BS to put up with.
He’s a fun, endearing gatekeeper, and I like having him around. But he shouldn’t have such free reign to crap all over differing opinions.

If I had the mad scientist capabilities he himself possesses, I’d probably set the Frink-o-meter to about 33%.

Same, I love Frink as well but recently he just became a bit more aggressive towards others who disagreed with him on something as stupid as movies.

EDIT: Wrong wording there. Movies are one of my favorite things but it is stupid to get in heated name calling over them.

Frink didn’t get heated because he disagreed about the movie. It was because of the offensive word used.

I wasn’t talking about that instance. I’m talking about how every time a person ranks ROTS too high for Frink’s liking, he had to berate them for it. I like Frink, but like Hal, think sometimes he goes too far. I am not talking specifically about that situation.

But that’s not a bannable offense, so it shouldn’t play any role in his current ban.

I have to disagree here. It was not about people not liking the movie, it was about people saying “where are all the attractive women in this movie”, “that fat asian chick” and of course the r-word. If you don’t like the movie, fine. If you don’t like the movie because you think “women don’t belong in Star Wars” or “Disney has an anti-male agenda”, then it’s a problem. And disagreeing with the way some Star Wars fans here talk about women is more than just disagreeing about a stupid movie.

Now, if moderators can’t monitor a spoiler thread, that’s also a problem. I fully understand that Jay and the mods have a life outside of this forum, but saying “here’s a spoiler thread, but remember to play nice, because the mods don’t want to read this” is just asking for trolls and it creates an obstacle to report posts, as noone wants to be the one that ruins the movie for the mods. At least the registration should have been closed one day ahead of the release to keep out the trolls and socks.

People who have been here for years that I’ve never seen posting in the Star Wars part hop in solely to shit on the movie. And long-standing contributors to fan projects said things that made me lose so much respect for them.
