[spoRv] projects - past and future
Time
That's one great list of future projects, Andrea.  I have to say that Mad Max 2 and Halloween are probably at the top of my wish list for color-timing restoration... and of course Escape From New York because they mastered the BD rather dark to begin with.  I've already been asking some veteran members about Suspiria so that's always an exciting project.  I have the Raiders WOWOW and that version looks awesome.  It'll be nice to have A Nightmare On Elm Street finally color-corrected in HD.  I still watch the DVD because it has the correct colors.  And of course Alien and Aliens are fan favorites that deserve restoration.  So there's a lot of incredible films to look forward... based on what you did with The Thing, the results should be fantastic.  Thanks again for the great efforts to preserve so many classic works of cinematic art.  Many of these are my very favorites of all time.

Speaking of HD-DVD, Streets of Fire is finally scheduled to be released on Blu-ray in the UK.  It's only ever been available on HD-DVD and that disc looked and sounded pretty awesome.  There were no special features though.  The new Blu-ray will be packed with features.  Hopefully they don't screw it up, but if they do I believe DJ has the HD-DVD in his archive.

HALLOWEEN - Fixing the audio and re-creating 1999 color timing (Released)
Time
Hey Boris, I'm with you on that first one in that it seemed absolutely fine on my system.  I've watched it several times with that track and I've looked closely at the spots that brought issues for some but I have absolutely no problems in those spots or any other.  That's with the original track that DJ sent to Doombot and was uploaded for us first.  The modified one may be of use to many but the original may still fit for others.  I don't want to confuse anyone.  Doombot was very helpful and I'm sure he can clarify any issues.  But the first track worked fine for me.  Thanks again, DJ.

I found Explorers via Usenet... it's 14 gigs and it's from HDNET Movies in 1080i according to the description.  It has the bug in the lower right corner that says "HDNet Kidscene" which kinda sucks.  It's the best I've seen it look to date.  On another note, does anybody have an opinion regarding Black Christmas (1974).  I'm just asking because it has been said that the original mono on the BD is the way to go, as the remix used stems from a workprint and tampers with the balance of many scenes.  I had never seen this film in my life and just watched it.  Man that was scary.  Even today.  I can only imagine what the reaction was like in '74.  The remix didn't hurt the experience but I know I should stick to the mono.  It seems that there are some sync issues with the remix on the retail BD but there also seems to be some slightly suspect ADR as well.  I'm new to Black Christmas so maybe you guys know, but I love the film anyway.  In the documentary the director Bob Clark says that he met John Carpenter on a project and John asked him about a sequel to Black Christmas as it's open ended to some degree depending on how you look at it.  Bob said that if he did do a sequel he would set it on Halloween night a year after the murders when the deranged killer escapes and goes back to his home town.  A sequel was never made of course.  I don't know if the story is true but that's what Bob Clark said in the documentary during his interview.  Halloween does owe a bit to the style of Black Christmas clearly.  When A Stranger Calls also lifted the central premise.  I love John Carpenter's stuff so I figure they were just really creative guys who wanted to tell these stories.  Bob Clark seemed like a good man.  Rest easy friend.

Hey DB, your original w64 file synced perfectly to both of my BD's and you're seeing them in perfect sync as well, so no complaints here.  In fact, I made a best of disc with all the commentaries and DJ's audio as well as the best remix and they all synced.  In the past with other films, I've certainly noticed as little as 250ms mistakes... I mean when it's off it's off and you notice it.  DJ's Criterion track via your upload worked like a charm for me.  Many thanks to both of you for helping a brutha out.

Info: Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan - ABC cut
Time

Just FYI... that announcer is Ernie Anderson who was "the voice of ABC" from the late '70s all the way to the '90s.  He is also the father of film director Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights).  I'll hear that man's voice in my head until the end of my days... "The Looooooooovvvvee Boat."

Robocop - Director's Cut 1080p restoration (Released)
Time
That "hybrid cut" that went up on TPB earlier this year worked out pretty well using the unreleased Sony BD and the HDTV director's cut.  The guy added some grain to the HDTV to balance it with the Sony look.  Other than a frame stutter in one early chapter the balance of the project turned out solid.  It's worth a look, but you guys are obviously talking about a far more ambitious project.  Hopefully this film will eventually be treated with the respect it deserves on home digital but I'm not holding my breath.  They just can't get this one right for some reason.
