When have you quoted Star Wars lines in the right situation?
Time

We all love to quote Star Wars as it has many great lines.

When have you used them in conversation or situations where it is funny or appropriate (or not appropriate).

As was at work on a RAAF base and some pilot came into my section wondering around. Looking in offices and such. I said to him "Can I help you?"

He said "I'm looking for someone"

I replied with "Found someone you have I would say hmmm?" In the Yoda voice. Cracked up all my work mates. Can't remember the reaction of the pilot.

While I was watching Star Trek with a mate Kirk got into the elevator and said "Level 5"

Me and my mate in sync turned to each other and said "Detention block AA 23." Laughed for about 5 minutes straight.

My mate was trying to be romantic with his wife by holding hands. She pulled her hands away and said "My hands are dirty" with the obvious reply "My hands are dirty too what are you afraid of?"

I know there are better ones out there c'mon when have you used a line to great effect

How come nobody stopped George Lucas from creating the bad films he created?
Time

Quackula said:

Probably would've been best if Lucas just penned the overall story and acted as a general advisor, and let other directors and writers and everything else handle the actual production. He doesn't seem to trust other people with his "vision" for some reason though.

Pretty much all the actors did a terrible job in the prequels. Its not their fault though. Portman can act, Neeson can act, McGregor can act, Diarmid can act alright perhaps Lloyd can't. Christensen can act too.

I think is says a lot that Lucas managed to coax a crummy performance out of someone as experienced and talented as Christopher Lee.

I forgot to add Lee as well. Good point.

And your right on the money with Lucas just penning the story and supervising rather than taking the reigns of everything.

The Empire Strikes Back is the best example. Done right.

But in the prequels it was very very bad. The Director has control over that. Lucas fault.

Just a shame someone didn't have a dirty little secret they could hold over George so they wouldn't get fired when they should of told him "your doing it wrong"

Even Yodas backward talking was a bit over the top.

"Around the survivors a perimeter create" WTF

Irvin Kershner at the helm would of been great. Hell, get Spielberg to do it they are friends I doubt Lucas would of sacked him.

I wish I lived in an alternate universe where the prequels were as good as the originals and were heralded as cinema master pieces.

What could of been.

Please help me understand colour correction.
Time

OK so if my TV is properly calibrated according to this 601 SMPTE bars and the colour looks crap then the fan editor steps in and does the fix.

Me adjusting colour on the TV and brightness is just a personal preference and not what the film maker intended.

I do watch movies that you can see quite clearly have a certain tint or effect to them as they are meant. Like you say Saving Private Ryan, Three Kings, Pitch Black.

So colour correction is against this 601 SMPTE bars standard.

Thanks for clearing it up for me.

What I see people doing with colour correction to fan edits to me (who knows nothing of the technical aspects of anything you guys do) doesn't make sense.

I know I'm way off the mark here because otherwise you wouldn't put so much effort in but....can't I just correct the colour using my TV? I adjust colour and brightness etc until I am happy with what I see.

Can someone explain it to me. I'm not referring to changing colour of lasers or lights which are wrong or lightsabers that are wrong I'm talking about the colour correction you put on the whole film.

Cheers

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW
Time

In relation to TIE fighter colours. This is the EFX model apparently scanned from a screen used TIE righter and is the colour of the screen used model. I remember reading something about people having a conversation about whether they should be blue or grey. The above picture is what the model was the film and or after effects may of changed it. Hopefully this picture is accurate in original colour and could be used.

I don't know what lighting this picture was taken but I guess it was lit up for publicity shots for EFX.

Bingowings what about if the rebels new exactly when the Emperor was in his Imperial Palace. Would that make it viable?

Or perhaps they finally had someone in place which they could not do before to blow up the reactor to plantery shields to allow the rebels access to blow up imperial palace with fighters and capital ships with the Emperor inside.

Maybe somehow get R2 to sacrifice himself. He is loved and adored and it would mean a great sacrifice even though he is only a droid. He could be the bomb that gets the planetary shield offline.

All this talk of ROTJ and what it could of been is making me like the movie less and less. :-(

Instead of the god awful Hayden standing next to Yoda and Obi-Wan why not have Vader in his suit standing there.

He was last on the good side in the suit and it was what he was wearing when he died like Obi and Yoda.

Still have him look over to Yoda and Obi and them look back at him. But we all know he is good now.

Might not be as good as Sebastion Shaw in Jedi robes (that he never wore) but its better than Hayden.

Yes, Adywan said he was going to film new scenes with the Rebel Commandos. They get forgotten in the forest battle and is the easiest way to "decute" the Endor battle scenes without CGI use.

The nice thing is that it will probably Ming and his crew. Who I believe are in California. Thus, they can actually go back to "Endor" the Redwood forest of Nortern California and film in the same spots.

A guy up in Seattle owns parts of the original Endor Bunker that was used. They are made of plywood and would be easy to replicate... or have him transport down to use again.

Thus, Ady and the crew, (I would volunteer to go down and help if they let me) could make some very convincing and realistic battle scenes with stormies/Imps and Rebel Commandos duking it out.

Matticon

Sounds awesome... on paper.

Making those new shots/scenes fit into an old movie and also maintain the Star Wars atmosphere will be quite a challenge.

Its as if 1000s of Ewoks suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

I wouldn't be surprised if this has already been suggested, but I was looking at some Ralph McQuarrie art and this picture really stood out to me:

Notice how here the pit itself is portrayed as being much larger, almost consuming the entire skiff and some of the Sail Barge. I'm guessing this is near to impossible, but it would be pretty damn cool if some how the scene from the movie could look more like this painting. Having a huge sarlaac pit (Teehee) and even the extra Barge adds the feeling of being "surrounded" and having no escape! (But then the problem of how the other Barge gets destroyed shows up)

The other one can blow up from being in close proximity to Jabbas one. It was a decent explosion. Chain reaction.

That would be good, claustrophobic. Only thing is people would be shooting from both barges and the likely hood of anyone escaping the initial barrage of laser bolts would be slim.

Yep he must of been coming up for a holiday and was in wind down mode.

Thinking to himself "If I have to open every door, especially the locked ones, that will eat into my holiday time.

If its locked that will emlimate 80% of the doors I have to check. I'll just tap on them."

your impressions before the PT films about yoda and palpatine
Time

Other impressions I always had was that Luke was taken to dagobah when he was a kid before going to uncle owen. I remember reading in starlog that kurtz said luke was taken there immediately after him and lukes mom and leia were split up. This is why luke says the comment "there is something familiar about this place" Also that dagobah was the home planet of the sith. The scene where luke cuts off vaders head is inside what most call a cave and even some books call it a cave but it is really a temple. when luke looks inside the room where he sees vader you can see the outline of a concrete door. it is not a cave or tree. This is why it is strong with the dark side of the force. Also this is why yoda chose that planet to hide on. No one would think to look for a jedi oin the home world of the sith.

Yeah I've always wondered why the den of evil had a bulkhead in it.

You make very good points.

It would of been good if Yoda and Ben took Luke to Dagobah before Ben left with him for Tattoine. Yoda could perform some Jedi mark on him to hide him from Vader and the Emperor while he was growing up.

Dagobah could of been a once beautiful planet turned to the way it was when we saw it through the Sith leaching life from the planet to make themselves powerful.

My impression of Yoda was a old Jedi who didn't need a lightsaber because he had completely mastered the force. The Emperor was hiding away like Yoda getting Vader to do all the work. The Emperor didn't need a lightsaber either due to his power.

Are we supposed to know that Palpatine = Sidious/The Emperor?

haljordan28 said:

I couldn't agree more. Episodes 1 and 2 already belittled the emperor character but in episode 3 he is made out to be ridicules and is ruined forever. I once though of the emperor as one bad azz Mother F*&&&^ vut by the end of episode 3 we see him cackling like an idiot. when yoda first trys to fight him palpatine tries to run and hide like some scared bitch. he is shown to be one of the biggest morons in history. He force fries his own face into a crisp and why is still anyones guess. mace is clearly blocking the lighting and it is frying palpatine so why doesnt he just STOP shooting the lighting instead if crying like a baby about not being able to hold on

I think he let himself get deformed so he could show everyone what the Jedi have done to him and to gain more sympathy from the senate if someone questions him about why attack the Jedi?

Still sounds like a mish mash of different scripts thrown together at once.

I know this is about the prequels, and in a way trying to make sense of some of the aspects of those films is futile, but...

Is Palpatine's true identity supposed to be that obvious? I honestly can't tell...

Sorry if this has been asked before.

I didn't think it was obvious either.

I thought that Palpatine was a clone of The Emperor and when the time came he was going to replace him. The clone was evil and doing the bidding of the Emperor. That way the Jedi couldn't sense Palpatine as a Sith Lord. Because in the original trilogy there was a lot of sensing going on. Darth Vader sensed Obi-Wan and in the trench run knew Luke was strong in the force.

It stood to reason that if Palpatine was the Emperor he would be picked out by the Jedi pretty quickly.

Appropriately Yoda has to explain to the audience that the Dark side clouds everything. Fixed the problem there with that one line.

After watching The Phantom Menace I thought that the Clone Wars was referring to the fact that Palpatine was a clone and he starts a war. Only after watching Attack of The Clones (or hearing the title) that I realised this was wrong as well.

Yeah the one trooper when they're talking about the new BT-16, I like the one trooper's response, "Yeah some of the other guys were telling me about about it, they say it's...it's quite a thing to see."

Yeah that was a good. It made the stormtroopers more relate able than just canon fodder for rebels.

"You seen that new BT-16?"

"Yeah some of the other guys were telling me about it. They say its quite a thing to see."

"What was that?"

"Its nothing, outgassing, don't worry about it."

The original trilogy had some of the best background acting ever. Its what makes it the greatest movies ever made. Giving lines to Stormtroopers was a brilliant move.

fixed!

Replayed it over and over and high volume and I don't hear it as outgassing. Still sounds like top gassing. Then I play it at low volume and your right. Its outgassing. Something to do with the exhaust port I bet.

Thanks for the pickup.

At 5:35 is the first one. Dead stormtrooper lying on deck. Its the thrid shot we see of troopers on that bridge and at 5:57 we see him again on the tenth shot. He doesn't get killed until 6:10

The points mentioned above are for the youtube video only because its not full widescreen.

On the full widescreen there are more shots of the trooper that we can see that aren't in the youtube video.
