Star Wars Episode II: March of the Separatists (Released)(v2 a WIP)
Time

Now that I’ve finished Episode II, I’m going to take a short break. I went through a lot of work and stress as a result of this edit, and I need to recharge my batteries before I tackle Episode III.

On top of this, I’m dealing with a lot of family matters since my mom’s passing. I won’t go through the details, but I feel the need to address them sooner rather than later.

I’ll be back, though. I’ll post a new topic for Episode III when I’m ready.

As a starting point, I use DaVinci Resolve. It’s a great editing program that is used by professionals. Plus, it’s free.

If you’re having trouble with getting the prequels, there are plenty of fan editors here who have made preservations of the movies. I’m currently using Schormann’s HDTV preservations for my fan edits, so if you want a recommendation, I’d give Schormann13 a PM.

Keep in mind, though, that the best route is to own the prequels on blu-ray and get transfers from the official releases, usually by pulling out a blu-ray drive and ripping the movies. However, I know how inconvenient that is. I only managed to get a blu-ray drive because it was my birthday. But it is the most legal option to go for. Plus, it makes it easier to get accepted into fanedit.org, which scores a few brownie points. If you have money you’re willing to spend, it’s worth it.

Schormann13 isn’t a member here

Whoops, my bad. It’s Schorman13. I keep forgetting that it’s one n, not two.

Luke: You fought in the clone wars?

Obi-wan: Yes. I was once a jedi Knight. Same as your father.

Luke: I wish I’d known him.

Obi-Wan: He was the best star pilot in the galaxy, but he was a terrible warrior. I should know. I sliced his limbs off. He was an incompetent child who never listened to a word I said. But enough about him. I understand that you’ve become quite a good pilot yourself… And he was the worst excuse for a friend I ever met.

Trailer is now online.

https://youtu.be/4QuAjuR_ttc

I’m sure the link is harmless, but if it’s in violation of the rules and guidelines, let me know and I’ll take it down.

As for the edit itself, I’ve successfully exported it, and I plan to test the file for any transfer errors that may have occurred. After that, the edit will be released.

Just tested it out. Everything looks fantastic, and I gotta say, the color grading turned out a lot better than I expected on my 1080p HDTV. However, I found a few clips that I missed in the climactic Geonosis battle. I’ve gone back and graded those clips, but I have to export a new file. Be patient. It’s almost done.

While I’m waiting for the export, I decided to take the file I have now and work on creating a trailer. I will post that up soon.

Replace all footage of Darth Vader with YouTube videos of cute adorable bunny rabbits.

Don’t replace the entire shot; just motion track the YouTube video over the top of the space Vader occupies in frame.

I foresee arguments arising about which moment exactly to start adding the adorable bunny rabbits when editing ROTS.

Seeing as Vader was only in that movie for 5 minutes, it only makes sense to add them in after we’ve seen Anakin get burned to a crisp and writhing in agony while the medical droids fix him up.

So, the logical conclusion is that we add the bunny rabbits the moment Anakin gets his helmet.

Sound editing is now officially complete (which means that the edit is also complete). I’m now going through the process of exporting the file. It might take a few days depending on whether resolve crashes on me during the export stage. Plus, I may need to give the edit a test to make sure there are no pesky conversion errors, but I think it’s safe to say that the edit is gonna be released soon.

Star Wars Episode I: The Rise of Naboo (v3.5 released)

Color grading is about 25% complete as of this posting. My mind is still on Episode II right now (although it’s almost done).

However, there’s something that’s been on my mind with my episode I edit lately, and it’s the ending. For the three of you who don’t want spoilers, I’ve placed the big stuff down in the expand tab below.

When I started work on episode I, I didn’t know how to rearrange scenes. However, with episode II, I got myself quite an education in rearrangement. I bring this up because as of v2, the ending to episode I is arranged just as it was theatrically, with no alterations to the timeline of the four plotlines (except when something was cut out, of course). This is especially true when the sequence is Anakin destroying the droid control ship, the gungans celebrating, and Obi-Wan killing darth maul. However, I mentioned that my main influence on episode I was l8wrtr’s edit, and for those of you who need a refresher, the sequence in l8wrtr’s edit is Obi-Wan killing Darth maul, anakin destroying the control ship, and the gungans celebrating, which to me, is a far superior sequence.

All of this is to say that I’m thinking of going back and redoing the ending. I know it’s late, but knowing what I know now, I’d like to get the four endings rearranged in a more complete fashion. My mind is still preoccupied with episodes II and III, but I will most likely change the sequencing of the ending to episode I (in addition to the color grading and audio commentary track) in future versions.

Just finished the subwoofer and left surround channels. Now I only have one channel left to take care of, and then sound editing will be complete. I will then get to the headache inducing process of testing and exporting it online.

I’m thinking I might do a trailer for this edit just like I did for episode I while working on the export. We’re getting close to completion now.

Ran into a technical hiccup. My editing software updated to Davinci Resolve 17, but my computer couldn’t handle its full capabilities and refused to take the software past the title screen. I’m going to make the unwise choice of reinstalling resolve 16.2.8, since I know that version works fine. However, this whole update business is causing a small delay. I will get back to the sound editing as soon as I’ve gotten this taken care of.

Opening crawl is done. Unless something else pops up, I think sound editing is going to be the final stage before I release it. My job has kept me really busy lately, so I don’t know how long it will take me to complete, but given that episode I’s sound editing took a week to finish, my guesstimate is that episode II’s sound will take two.
