I was able to finesse it to make it work even so, as the purple blade is only on the far left for a few frames, using layering and cropping.

I was able to tinker with some of the other bits and pieces. I did find where 21C has posted the Mustafar shots. I will get that implemented with corresponding audio. And that way if anyone does want to explore the idea of adding trees to the foreground I could drop that in.

It’s the one found here, immediately following the establishing shot of the planet:

It looks great 👍
Are you gonna add the shot of the castle and the forest (the one right after we see the pilot)?

I just had kind of a crazy idea:
What if we use the audio from that deleted scene of Finn confronting Phasma and had him say it earlier - like, when he’s about to be executed? Then the stormtrooper turns around and decapitates Phasma (this wouldn’t need to be shown in too much detail, since the scene is intercut with a lot of other stuff. Maybe just add an animation of the lightning-axe-thing swinging over one of the shots of Phasma turning her head). Then, remove the fight and have Finn and Rose go straight to the shuttle - but while this is happening, repurpose some of the shots from later of stormtroopers running away to make it look like they’re escaping too.
And this is the tricky part - change the conversation between Finn and Jannah in TROS to make it so that she was the executioner.
You could even take it a step further and reinstate the deleted scene of Finn convincing a Stormtrooper to let him go, but edit a black “executioner” stripe onto his helmet, and dub him with a female voice to that it’s also Jannah.

Man, that sounds really cool
If it can be pulled off convincingly, I think it would give a little bit of depth to Jannah’s character and would add give a nice sense of continuity with Finn’s arc in TLJ (since we don’t have any deleted scenes about Rose in RoS)

Making Rey Luke’s daughter would be the cleanest and simplest way to go, especially since it’s very nearly spoken in dialogue between Maz and Rey in TFA.

Anyone else and you would need new scenes that didn’t exist.

I guess you’re right, there’s enough dialogue/footage to make it plausible
Luke’s family disappearing (with his wife dying and his daughter trapped on Jakku) could be perfectly used as the reason of why he is a broken man who lost faith in himself during the ST and even thinks briefly about killing his own nephew after sensing Ben’s dark thoughts

You could always go with the classic memory wiped youngling at Luke’s temple theory.

I certainly could but I wanted to know how far could I get in a radical edit of the sequels without (mostly) new footage and just dialogue/score tweaks

Rey being either Luke’s daughter/apprentice crossed through my mind a lot of times, then I thought that Rey should be the apprentice of a male Jedi (her father in the theatrical film) but her mother was always with them and it would be a real pain to remove her (that’s when I thought about making her Rey’s master and now, I thought about also making her Luke’s first apprentice instead of Leia)

Well, following what I proposed yesterday I was thinking that if you really wanted that Rey was the daughter of some preexisting but very obscure and unknown characters; you could have Laze Loneozner and Camie Marstrap (Luke’s friends from the deleted scenes of ANH) as her parents (this would all be headcanon since I don’t know how to incorporate that in the films in an organic way)

Toying again in my head with the idea of making Rey’s plot twist being that she killed her master instead of Rey being Palpatine’s granddaughter, I thought:

Would you like the idea that Rey’s master (her mother in the actual film) was Luke’s former apprentice and Luke gived her lightsaber to Rey instead of Leia’s lightsaber during Episode IX?
I thought that it might be doable but would make Leia’s role in Episode IX even smaller than it already is

I also thought that the idea of Rey having a Jedi master would raise several questions to the general audience like: Why she doesn’t appear either as a voice or a ghost through the entire trilogy?

Has anyone thought about making Rey a padawan “abandoned” by her master? I’m asking that since I was thinking of a way that she could battle Kylo without the justification of her “downloading” Kylo’s training into her mind during the interrogation scene in TFA

The story I was imagining for her with the footage we already have would somewhat go like this:

-Rey is born in Jakku, as the daughter of two selfish jerks
-Her parents then sell Rey to a young woman, a Jedi
-The woman then proceeded to train Rey at a very young age (Rey’s parents on the other hand, already died)
-Years later, Rey’s master learns that Rey was targeted by the Sith and hids her on Jakku (We repurpose footage of Rey’s mother to depict this, while also cutting Rey’s father entirely)
-Rey is left behind by the woman and, blinded by the dark side, kills her master with the use of force lighting
-The traumatic experience is blocked from Rey’s mind and she probably misremembers her master as her true mother

All of this would be implied across the trilogy, with the plot twist in Episode IX being that Rey killed the only person that really cared for her until she met Finn and BB-8

Also, this would erase the feeling that Kylo’s lines in TLJ about Rey’s parents are being retconned in ROS (they would be actually expanded and fleshed out) and would give a better excuse about how Rey can fight (and win) against an experimented force user

Fascinating… I could see that working really well as a twist. The audience had always been made to assume the shot of Rey yelling at a spaceship to “come back” was referring to her parents… but if we found out it wasn’t (assuming you cut the line where Rey explicitly says “my parents were on that ship”) then it would be quite interesting.

Yeah, that line should obviously be removed and I appreciate very much that you liked it
I was thinking about it an attempt to do a “reverse and darker” version of Anakin’s story in Episode I with the footage we have about Rey’s backstory

I know this may sound ridiculous but: What if Obi-Wan in Episode IV tells Luke that his mother (Padme) wanted him to have Anakin’s lightsaber when he was older? Instead of lying about Luke’s father (as usual)

That way, this wouldn’t be yet another of those “From another point of view” but something that actually could happen off-screen in Episode III

Complete Saga Radical Redux Ideas Thread
Time

If only I knew before about this thread before posting my ideas in separate threads…
So anyway, I guess that you could at least try to hide the plot twists of the OT in both the PT and the OT itself to make the saga feel more consistent with what it wants to be (despite everyone in the entire world knows about them)
I mean, think about it
If you watch the PT and then the OT, you know every single twist in the trilogy
But if you watch the OT and then the ST, it doesn’t really matter since the twists don’t relay on the fact that you watched the previous films
(And trying to hide the twists in the OT and PT is way easier than trying to plant the seeds of the twists from the ST in the previous trilogies)

I’m completely in love with how all of this sounds, man
Have you thought about removing the superweapon aspect of Starkiller Base? I think it was RogueLeader the one who suggested to turn the mission into getting the the other half of the map to Skywalker, and rescuing Rey (But this would mean that the Republic isn’t destroyed in VII)
Anyway, I will watch how you structure your edit with great interest

I think if you’re gonna cut it, you should just commit to it and cut the line from RotS. The line’s too vague in RotS, if I were watching that for the first time, I’d think it was an inconsistency.

Yeah, I also wasn’t convinced with that line, it makes the whole deal even more convoluted

My reasoning behind that change would be that Sidious doesn’t trust Grievous enough to let him know his plans (It is implied in other media that Grievous doesn’t even know that the chancellor is Sidious)

But yeah, the post was meant to be part of another one that I wrote in the ideas for the OT (that’s why it has mostly ideas that other editors have already tried or discussed)

I was thinking about some random ideas to better tie the PT with the OT, while trying to keep the plot twist (I’m gonna post here just the changes I would do to the PT)

Through the trilogy:
-Remove Yoda and Jabba to preserve their first appearances for the OT

Attack Of The Clones:
-Remove Anakin killing the Tuskens and him talking about it with Padme, the scene ends with Shmi’s death and the next time we see Anakin; he is bringing her body to the Lars’ home (Though he still kills them, as this event would be referenced by Palpatine in ROTS)

Revenge Of The Sith:
-During the hologram scene between Grievous and Sidious, the dialogue is changed a bit to have the sith lord saying: “I have a new apprentice, one more powerful than Skywalker and Kenobi” (I made this little change to imply that Sidious is so sure that Anakin will turn ti the dark side, that he already considers him his apprentice; while also implying to the audience that Palpatine has a new pupil that isn’t either Dooku or Anakin)
-Anakin still falls to the dark side but he is never called “Darth Vader” by anyone. The last time we see Anakin, he is burning on Mustafar
-If you wanted to put Vader on your edit, I would suggest to just leave his final scene with the Emperor and Tarkin
-If you want to, you could rearrange the ending to play along with Obi-Wan’s message from Rebels

I was thinking about some random ideas to better tie the PT with the OT, while trying to keep the plot twist (I’m gonna post here just the changes I would do to the OT)

A New Hope:
-Ben would call R2 “Old friend” instead of “Little friend” (he still lies to Luke about how he doesn’t remember owning a droid)
-When Ben tells Luke about Vader, he would say “A sith lord named Darth Vader helped the Empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi Knights” (The “sith lord” part would come from that video of an AI reading the Darth Plagueis copypasta with Alec Guinness voice and the part about Vader being Kenobi’s pupil is cut due to Anakin being his only known apprentice)
-Vader would say during the fight: “When I left THE JEDI I was but A learner, now I am the master” (The dialogue during the fight is changed a bit to hide the fact that Vader is Kenobi’s apprentice; while trying to keep the meaning of the original scene)
-I think changing “Darth” with “Vader” is a very popular idea between editors but I would also list that

Through the trilogy…
-No one would refer to Vader as Obi-Wan’s apprentice until after the reveal in Episode V (this includes Yoda’s brief dialogue with Luke in ESB, where their dialogue about Vader can easily be trimmed to be about if the dark side is stronger, without any mention of him)

Return Of The Jedi:
-If in your edit Padme dies, I think you could trim the dialogue about how Leia can remember her real mother
-This isn’t very necessary but Vader could say to Luke “Padme once thought as you do” (I think he should say “Your mother once thought as you do” but I can’t find an instance where Vader says “mother”)

A Palpatine-less Edit of The Rise of Skywalker (Released)
Time

RogueLeader said:

Josh, I would be interested in checking your project out.

Although I haven’t watched it yet, I appreciate all the effort you put into this. I don’t know if a Palpatine-less edit will ever be totally convincing, but I think you have implemented a lot of clever ideas that carry the idea pretty far.

Looking at your clip of Kylo arriving at Exegol, it definitely feels like the scene could use a little more context. Kylo basically walks around, interacts with nothing, and then the fleet suddenly rises. I’m usually against using fan films in fan-edits, but for some reason I could see an editor using parts of Seize the Frame’s Kylo vs Vader fan film to create a dark side vision that tests if Kylo is worthy of the fleet.

Kylo would descend into the temple, and it somehow transition to this point in the fan film. Maybe by cutting on a lightning flash, having Kylo walk around a corner, smoke rolls in, something like that. You could totally redo the dialogue, music and sound effects to make it fit better with the rest of the film, and you could create dialogue between Vader and Kylo to fit this new context. You could play it as Kylo being back on Starkiller Base, but instead of fighting Rey again, he fights Vader. Maybe Vader could even taunt Kylo for his failure there. After Kylo kills Vader, he snaps back to Exegol and he sees the Sith throne before him. We then hear the temple “activate”, and the Star Destroyers rise from their cold graves. It might not be right for your edit unless you possibly do a version 3, but this is something that I think it would be interesting to experiment with in a future Palpatine-less edit. Your idea has definitely gotten the gears turning in my head, for sure.

Ironically, Trevorrow’s Duel of the Fates also had Kylo and Vader have a vision duel.

Not only could this be a good way to provide some context, but it could help add a little back to the runtime.

I know you were trying to piece together some Leia dialogue for when she wants to recall Poe back to the base. I wonder if you could something usable from this TFA deleted scene? She could say something like, “Find Poe.”

I did have some thoughts about the climax and ending as well. It would be a nice touch if you could somehow imply that Rey keeping Kylo from the battle is somehow beneficial to the Resistance. Maybe Kylo could tell Pryde not to leave Exegol until he returns. This could help show how one battle has an effect on the other, instead of them feeling totally irrelevant to each other.

I also think Rey talking with Luke and Ben talking to Han after the battles are over work as a good denouement. Rey has to accept that her anger and darkness don’t define her, and Ben has to forgive himself for his mistakes, and strive to right his wrongs. Then we get the celebration scene on Ajan Kloss (even though there is a continuity error with Rey being bloody, we’ll just have to live with it). Finally, I feel like it would be appropriate to end the film with Ben arriving on Tatooine with Rey, if it’s possible. I think it would just feel weird not to see Ben again after his conversation with Han. We could see Rey on Tatooine, burying the Skywalker sabers and activating hers, which could be have the same color and ignition sound as Leia’s, implying that Rey used her crystal to finish her own lightsaber. This would add some relevance to why Leia’s saber was introduced in one of the last scenes in this film. And after, we see see Ben walk up and the film ends with them, leaving us with the sense that Ben is going to try to atone for his sins, and help Rey restore peace and justice to the galaxy.

Wow, you always have great ideas!!!

Since Kylo fights Rey while the battle of Exegol takes place, what could we possibly do with the Knights of Ren?

The Rise of Skywalker: Ascendant (Released)

Hi, everyone
Yesterday I asked about if jonh was still doing the force ghost scene with Sebastian Shaw and it seems there’s a notable lack of footage for that to happen
So I did a quick mock-up in FaceApp to showcase that with EbSynth + FaceApp we could somehow create some new footage! (That was how Hayden was slightly aged in that scene to begin with)
I used a picture of Tobey Maguire from Spider-Man 1, along with a colored picture of Sebastian Shaw
This was the result:

A while ago I was thinking about the idea of making a JJBA Part 5 edit using the PS2 voicelines and adding their corresponding music references

I thought the same of creating edits of the arcs of Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 of Sonic X, using the dialogue and OST from the games (and also removing the anime original characters btw)
