This thread is sooooo much worse than I ever could have expected.  It's like the opposite of wiping my ass with silk.

I don't get it.  What's wrong with wiping your head with silk?

Star Wars: The New Dawn (The First Episode in DuracellEnergizer's New PT Re-Write) *COMPLETE*
Time

Since completing this screenplay, I came to realize there were a number of aspects about the writing that I just didn't feel were all that good and could use a little re-editing, so I decided to give the screenplay a minor re-write to iron out all the wrinkles.

Since I consider the version here finished, however, and as I don't believe in Lucas-styled historical revision, I've decided not to re-edit my entries here. Anyone interested in reading the updated version can read it here:

http://duracellenergizer.deviantart.com/art/Star-Wars-The-New-Dawn-463349742?_sid=48c70101

For those who aren't interested in reading virtually the same script over again a second time, here is a more-or-less comprehensive list of the changes I've made.

  • The formatting has been changed to reflect that of the standard screenplay format (Formerly italicized words have now been underlined, distinct sounds have been rendered in all-caps, etc.).
  • Tidied up the grammar (Removed a lot of unnecessary commas, in particular.).
  • Some of the more stilted dialogue has been rewritten to be more natural.
  • The Mandalorians now primarily speak in their own language.
  • The conventional swords of the Mandalorian Knights have been changed to vibroswords.
  • Zull is now fluent in Basic from the beginning.
  • Beru has been aged up from twelve to thirteen.
  • Anakin's hair colour has been changed from dark blond to black.
  • Ben now calls Anakin "Nik" from time-to-time instead of always referring to him by his full name.
  • When Ben first mentions the Jedi to Nik, instead of being ignorant of their very existence, Anakin initially thinks they're nanotech-enhanced monks.
  • The Light Hammer has been renamed the Lightning Warrior (Instead of bringing to mind a hammer made out of light, which was what I originally intended, Light Hammer just brought to mind a lightweight hammer, which just isn't very impressive at all.).
  • Various other minor additions/subtractions/alterations.

As for the Knight of the Empire screenplay I'm currently working on, it, too, will be re-edited to match the updated version of The New Dawn.

The Crying Game (1992)

As I am and pretty much always have been a fan of Jaye Davidson's performance as Ra in Stargate, I figured it was about time I watched this movie to see his one and only other performance as an actor in a feature length film.

Suffice it to say, I already knew the story's plot twist, so I wasn't surprised in the least when it reared its head. What did surprise me, however, was to see goddamn Ralph Brown himself make an appearance in this film.

Ric Olie and Ra by DuracellEnergizer

As if that wasn't a bewildering surprise in-and-of itself, in one part of the movie he takes Davidson's character up to "her" apartment and it's strongly implied that they then had sex.

That's right -- Ric Olié fucked the sun god.

So to sum things up, I went in and got a surprise, just not the surprise that was intended by the filmmakers. To that I say: God bless you, you magnificent bastards.

I read that list a few months back, and it was more than enough to convince me that Abramstrek was an abortion not worth bothering with.

Hopefully they reboot the franchise again and get it right this time around.

Do you ever think before you make these posts?  You've begun to sound like generalfrevious.  Am I just missing that hyperbole is your schtick or something?  Because this has started to bug me, a lot.

In hindsight, I should have gone with "miscarriage", but I didn't think of it at the time.

Regardless, I consider Abramstrek a gross misinterpretation of the series and I have absolutely no interest in watching those movies or any future entries in the franchise which build upon those movies.

clearly he has more interest in the material and has taken it upon himself to do rewrites

That's what worries me. Don't get me wrong, I think he's an excellent director but the stories he chooses to direct usually leave a lot to be desired.

I think the direction's the primary reason I liked Super 8 as much as I did (Well, that and that it didn't take place in the 21st century.); the alien stuff certainly did nothing for me.

From the upcoming novel "Lords of the Sith":

"Vader completed his mediation and opened his eyes. His pale, flame-savaged face stared back at him from out of the reflective black surface of his pressurized meditation chamber. Without the neural connection to his armor, he was conscious of the stumps of his legs, the ruin of his arm, the perpetual pain in his flesh. He welcomed it. Once, as a Jedi, he had meditated to find peace. Now he meditated to sharpen the edges of his anger. He stared at his reflection a long time. His injuries had deformed his body, left it in ruin, but they'd perfected his spirit, strengthening his connection to the Force. Suffering had birthed insight. [...] When man and machine were united, he no longer felt the absence of his legs, his arm, or the pain of his flesh, but the hate remained, and the rage still burned. Those, he never relinquished, and he never felt more connected to the Force than when his rage burned. [...] The armor separated him from the galaxy, from everyone, made him singular, freed him from the needs of the flesh, the concerns of the body that once had plagued him, and allowed him to focus solely on his relationship to the Force. [...] He looked out and up through the large viewport that opened out onto the galaxy and its numberless worlds and stars. It was his duty to rule them all. He saw that now."

What do you think?

So now Vader is some semi-masochistic rageaholic? Sorry, but this characterization just doesn't appeal to me.

In my mind, Vader considers himself a prisoner of pain, rage, loneliness, and his life-supporting suit of armour; he would shed them if he could, but he cannot. He certainly does not embrace any of these.

Am I the only one who doesn't mind the notion that Boba is a clone? Now of course I didn't care much for how it was handled in AOTC, but I think the idea is cool. Making him a clone doesn't make him more "human and relatable," it should actually do the opposite. I think the fact that the most bad ass bounty hunter in the galaxy is actually just a clone of some other guy is actually a really interesting and unconventional sort of concept for such a character.

Like you said, it's not the idea itself that's the problem but how it was executed.

When I imagine my ideal Stargate Universe, this is what I see in my mind's eye:

This is my Stargate -- not a universe of English-speaking aliens or Devlin/Emmerich-style popcorn fluff, but an immense, mysterious, awe-inspiring universe that marries all the best aspects of the Dune, Star Trek, Star Wars, 2001, and Alien universes into a single, nigh-divine whole.

Hopefully, I'll be able to see this Stargate come into existence within this lifetime.

has anyone seen this before? It mentions in the article something about how Lucas had a contract with Fox that included a stipulation that original prints of the unaltered versions were to be destroyed. Is this article real, or is it exaggerating or joking?

I doubt very much that that article's meant to be a joke. The creator of savestarwars.com was a regular poster on this forum and even published a book on the development of the Star Wars series.

You sound kind of silly when you complain about fans spitting venom on those that question Lucas when you're spitting venom on those that like the PT.

I don't mind if someone likes the PT -- as long as they support the preservation of the OOT. What I do mind, however, is when someone who does like the PT treats the OOT like used toilet paper and decrees that Lucas is a perfect god who can never be questioned and personally attacks and insults anyone who says otherwise.

How to tell when a Star Wars fan isn't really a Star Wars fan:

  1. When they consider the PT better than the OT.
  2. When they consider the "I-II-III-IV-V-VI" viewing order the "right" order.
  3. When they defend Lucas' refusal to properly restore the OOT.
  4. When they spit venom on anyone who dares to question Lucas in even the smallest way possible.
