There was a point in my early 20s when I would take a dump on ROTJ, but the more Star Wars saturates the market, the more I appreciate Jedi. It certainly was a step down in quality from Empire, but there’s a lot about the film I really love. Star Wars is like ice cream, some folks like chocolate, some people like vanilla, some people are just happy to get ice cream…then there’s the crazy people who would eat crap on a cone and swear it’s awesome…
Personally, I can cut subpar fanfic churned out by committee more slack than a bad ending written by the original author; I expect better quality from him than them.
I do not expect better quality from him given that, in addition to a few amazing films, he also wrote and/or directed some real stinkers.
The author in question is an analogical composite of everyone involved in the production of the OT, not Lucas alone.

Everything released after DS9 has disinterested me, but at least the crappy prequels/sequels/reboots haven’t ruined the past series/films I love for me (which is far more than can be said about Star Wars), so I can live with the present situation.

At this stage I am also not happy that he sold the franchise to Disney. I think he should have kept hold of it and simply allowed other directors to make new Star Wars movies for him with himself as Exec Producer / Assistant Director and story consultant or something like that.

I love how the Highlander franchise handles continuity. Don’t like Highlander II? Highlander III ignores Highlander II. Don’t like Highlander III? Highlander: The Series ignores Highlander III. Don’t like any of the sequels/spinoffs? Ignore them all to your heart’s content; the original film has a perfectly closed ending anyway.
Of all cherished franchises which consist mostly of shit, the Highlander franchise is the one I have the least spite towards, and it’s due to this healthy, organic, blessed discontinuity.
Can’t say I like any of 'em.
