The new Star Wars comics - a general discussion thread
Time

I just came from reading the third issue of the Princess Leia miniseries. Here's my opinion of it in one simple word:

HOO-HUM (Or is that two words?)

The confrontation between Leia's party and the "crazy" Alderaanians on Sullust felt forced and unnatural, just as if it were shoved in there for the sole purpose of having someone there for Leia to fight, and the resolution was no better. Honestly, this issue felt like plain ol' typical decompressed-comics filler, shoved in there to stretch the plot out for as long as possible without doing anything to actually progress the actual storyline or develop the characters.

I just don't know what to make of this miniseries so far. The first issue was pretty meh, the second issue was a bit more engaging (if only for the flashbacks to Leia's childhood), and then we're right back into meh territory here again. I'd like this storyline to succeed in impressing me, but right now, the magic's fleeting (if it's there at all).

Oh, and before I forget to mention it, I'm not loving the interior artwork. I've given Terry Dodson's work a chance, and while I think his cover art's good, I don't like his interior artwork; maybe it's his wife's sketchy inks, maybe it's the bland colour palette, but it's all so flat and boring to look at.

JEDIT: Finally -- and this just sunk in now -- I'm getting the vibe that Mark Waid's writing Leia as if she feels some sort of contempt for the Alderaanians' pacifism. Perhaps I'm seeing things which aren't there, but if I'm right, then Waid is interpreting the character in a manner I seriously don't like.

I'm drunk off my ass right now.

Yes, yes, I know -- alcholism's a bane on society, and I know all too well from personal experience the strife it brings on others. That being said, the few times I have the opportunity to get inebriated are the one times I feel truly happy (It's an artificial joy, I know, but artificial joy is better than none at all.).

That's what you get for daring to read a writer's raw notes.

In finished form (and undoubtedly in the movie itself, were it ever made) the scenes in question would be implied through allusion rather than shown fully on screen.

To be frank, I personally wouldn't mind seeing your NC-17 version of the PT realized on-screen. I believe SW can fit into all sorts of molds, even non-child-friendly ones.

Ok. I've sent your name and address to the Scientology Mother Church. Agents will be picking you up momentarily. Say goodbye to family, friends and sanity. You're in Scientology now!!

Let me share some comedy among the group

''First time I heard the story of Scientology I was like, that is the dumbest shit I have ever heard in my life, it was like: Hey, everybody there’s a space ship coming back, everybody’s getting sneakers, this is Tom Cruise...

And I said that is the dumbest shit I have ever heard, while simultaneously still kind of believing that a woman who never got fucked, had a baby that walked on water, died and came back three days later, so...''

Random Thoughts

I often wonder what I would do if God gave me the chance to relive my high school years over again. First things first, I'd flirt with girls more -- and not in the digusting, juvenile, half-assed way I did, but in a more mature, sauve fashion -- and I'd summon up the courage to get an after school job or something like that, so that I'd have some work experience to prepare me for the future.
