I've read that Carrie Fisher was considered for the role of Lois Lane in the '78 Superman film. I wish she had gotten the part; I can't stand Margot Kidder or her homely Keith Richards face.

You're still ahead of mine by at least a year. Even then, we didn't start buying DVDs regularly; there are over a hundred VHS cassettes gathering dust in the basement, and almost all of them were bought after we "switched over".

^A VCR not even a full three years old dies just like that? Damn, SilverWook must be right about how cheap last-generation VCRs were made. All the VCRs I ever owned (minus the three VCR/DVD combos I have/had) were bought second hand, and the one I held onto the longest lasted from 2002 all the way to 2007/2008.

Chapter eleven, about pop culture exploding around the world in the 70's, covers The Exorcist, Jaws and then Star Wars in the last few minutes. The crawl is the '77 version, and the rest seems to be taken from the GOUT as well, so they must've cropped it to 16:9.
The entire 15-part series is up on Netflix, so if anyone has access they can give their opinion on where the clips are sourced from.
*sigh* This just serves to remind me of how much I miss TCM.
Seeing ROTS referred to as "Star Wars 3" makes me cry inside.
