The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

H.P. Lovecraft, “The Call of Cthulhu”

What people don’t seem to recognize is that ‘reality’ doesn’t necessarily map onto the findings of science. This is not to say that the universe as described through scientific principles is not factual - it usually is. However, it is incomplete. It is my belief that there is more than this universe, and people can and do travel into these realms. For some people, reality includes not just the screaming abyss, the horrible nightmare, and the demiurgic machine, but places of spiritual rest, vivid attainment, and absolute oneness. The modern laser focus on scientific materialism distorts the reality of normal people into accepting a form of frightening powerlessness, and most of those who escape this do so by rejecting science. The answer lies in allowing physics to be but one aspect of an infinitely greater metaphysics.

This is why I prefer Philip K. Dick to Lovecraft, though I worship Lovecraft’s command of the written word and his ability to create truly alien beings and worlds.

Do you think the butthurt EUphiles take an axe to their TV everytime they pop in TFA?

No, they don’t. They don’t own TFA because they refuse to give the malicious Mickey Mouse money.

You must know they’d illegally download the film from the Internet, thus allowing them to own the hated movie while depriving the House of Vermin a cent.

I don’t know if they’re better…I just know I enjoy TFA more than ROTJ and if I have to pick one I’d rather watch TFA. And that’s how I rank them.

So how does it feel to finally have have an unpopular opinion?

It doesn’t feel at all because the popularity of my opinions is meaningless to me.

Don’t you mean “feelingless”?

All Things Star Trek

Of the Trek series I’ve watched, I consider DS9 the only one that really managed to realize its full potential. TOS was hampered by its episodic nature and strict focus on Kirk/Spock/McCoy; TNG by awful technobabble and Roddenberry’s utopian crap; and TAS by cheap animation, short runtime, and some really dire voice acting on Doohan’s part. Aside from everything to do with Worf and the Klingons, I have no similar gripes with DS9.
