I’m not so young or old that I need someone to read to me. 😉

Hey. I’m only 39, and I love audiobooks. My wife and I have listened to Harry Potter (by Stephen Fry) and The Belgariad enough times to have lost count. And Orson Scott Card went on record in the afterword for the 30th Anniversary audiobook of Ender’s Game to say that he thought “hearing it read aloud is the superior way to experience this story.”

Before the majority of the populous was literate, and long before the advent of film and television, being a storyteller was actually a thing. Hearing a story told to you by an accomplished narrator can be an enjoyable experience.

For one reason or another, I find it very hard to listen to audiobooks unless I stop anything else I’m doing, close my eyes, and concentrate entirely on them. Otherwise they just become background noise.

Suffice to say, I haven’t “read” many audiobooks.

CHANGE #5

Recolour all Imperial blaster bolts green.

IMPETUS FOR CHANGE:

From the beginning, I’ve disliked that Imperial blasters fire red bolts. Imperial ships fire green blasts, distinguishing them from Rebel ships, so why shouldn’t their hand-held weapons do the same?

I’ve decided to roll back this change. Instead, I’d recolour the bolts of Rebel hand blasters/blaster cannons blue.

CHANGE #18

Change this line of Han’s

“It’s the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs.”

to

“It’s the ship that made the Kessel Run in under 12 parsecs.”

IMPETUS FOR CHANGE

To make it a bit clearer that a parsec is a measurement of distance, not time.

I’ll amend that to “It’s the ship that made the Kessel Run short of 12 parsecs.”. Why? “Under 12” doesn’t really say anything different from “less than 12”.

CHANGE #19

Recolour the blaster bolts from Han’s blaster/the Millennium Falcon orange.

IMPETUS FOR CHANGE

He’s not an Imperial, and he hasn’t joined the Rebel Alliance yet, so he and his ship should have a “neutral” blaster colour.

I’ve decided to make all non-affiliated blaster bolts white instead.

I’ve always kind of wondered what the rationale of hiring him was, especially given that Frakes was chosen instead of some bigger-name directors, apparently on the last two.

I think he was brought in because Berman wanted to “liven things up” with an action director, and Baird was who he came up with.
I imagine this was probably in response to Insurrection, which feels cheaper and more like TV than the the first two films.
Does anyone know why that is? I know they didn’t go with ILM, so that’s why the effects work isn’t great, but Insurrection has the same director, cinematographer and a larger budget than First Contact but looks worse.

Going the “human aliens” route probably didn’t help.
