Last web series/tv show seen
Time

In the last week, I watched the first season of Emily of New Moon.

When I was young, this show used to creep the bejeesus out of me. Looking back on it, I can recognize the bits which scared me, but they pack no punch anymore. I don’t know why I found those bits scary in the first place; I was ten going on eleven — I should’ve been made of sterner stuff than that. I guess I had arrested development.

Anyway, 7 sober Barnies out of 9.

Things that you would like to see in Star Wars that have not happened

Anyway, I’d like to see archaeology in a Star Wars movie.

This reminds me of a story idea I posted in another thread some years ago.

Two Jedi archaeologists – a master and his newly appointed apprentice – are sent to serve as consultants on a remote backwater planet where the ruins of a long extinct civilization have been unearthed. Apparently, this civilization wiped itself millions of years ago after succumbing to some bizarre pandemic which caused them all to develop conflicting memories about themselves, their peers, and the history of their world, driving them to homicidal madness in the process.

As the archaeological team digs deeper and deeper into the ruins, they, too, begin to suffer from the madness which wiped out this lost civilization, recalling conflicting memories about themselves, their peers, and the universe around them.

Eventually, it is discovered that this plague of madness is caused by some bizarre orb buried at the heart of the ruins – an orb which serves as a window into the multiverse. Anyone who gets too close to the orb and its emanations gains the memories of their counterparts in other timelines, driving them insane in the process.

In the end, the Jedi master sacrifices himself by merging with the orb, defeating it in the process. His apprentice, who suffered prolonged exposure to the radiations of the orb, is left insane, unable to distinguish one reality from another, existing in multiple worlds at once.

I still want to see this movie made.

Sounds like a good idea, but maybe not for Star Wars. For some reason, having a multiverse in SW just feels wrong.

A single SW universe consisting of the PT, SE, & ST feels wrong to me. YMMV

Random Thoughts
Time

I’ve been reading some old reviews/ratings I posed in the “Last movie seen” thread — specifically, ones from 2012-2013 — and it’s quite strange, seeing how differently I evaluate movies now vs. then. Back then, I gave daft ratings to almost every movie I watched — 5-to-6/10 was the average score, with lots of pointless decimals — but I was far better at writing reviews then than I am now. Here’s one for example:

The Black Hole (1979)

I watched this movie a couple weeks ago, and meant to comment on it then, but I got distracted and never got around to it. Well, now’s as good a time as any to do so, and it’s still fresh enough in my mind to recount the major points of the film I liked/disliked.

The Good

The robots V.I.N.C.E.N.T and B.O.B - though their design was a little too cutesy for my tastes - had lots of personality and were easily the highlights of the film.

Maximillian Schell did a great job as the villainous Hans Reinhardt

The special effects were excellent

The Bad

With the sole exception of Reinhardt, all the human characters were colourless cyphers - I couldn’t even remember any of their names, not even Anthony Perkins’.

The film was thematically all over the place. It tried to be a serious, philosophical movie like 2001 while also trying to be whimsically adventurous like Star Wars, but only ended up a confused mess.

The Darth Vader robots were really, really uninspired and lame.

The Ugly

The score is a mixed bag. At times it was ominously great, while at others it fell completely flat (this is most notable during the gunfight scenes).

I wish I still knew how to write reviews like this one.

And it was amusing to come across this:

You’re currently probably the forums biggest pessimist, almost everything you post is a major downer.

The Place to Go for Emotional Support

I still see this wonderful girl all the time who makes me laugh and thinks I’m hilarious, but nothing more will ever come of it and it makes me sad.

It could be worse. You could emotionally force yourself upon her, act like a petulant child when she’s been nothing but courteous towards you, ask for her hand in marriage when you know she won’t give it, go into a tirade when she predictably turns you down, post manifestos about the school grounds on how the two of you are predestined to be together and anyone who comes between you is challenging the will of God Himself, then find yourself completely and utterly estranged from her with no possibility of reconciliation.

Trust me, it’s better to have her in your life as a friend than not at all.

I’m not sure Trump brushes his teeth. I believe his move is Tic-Tacs. And I believe there’s audio to prove it.

You’re confusing Trump with Mao.

Not sure I follow your reference, but just in case.

FYI, Mao reportedly refused to ever brush his teeth. His teeth turned green as a result.
