It’s called a stye. Gently wash your eyes out with Johnson’s Baby Shampoo. I used to get these a lot. Now during the summer when I’m outside and sweat more often, I do this once a week or so and I get them less often.

I quite strongly agree. Gratuitousness regarding clean language, sexual repression, or modesty doesn’t add anything to the story. Often it detracts from focus on plot.

The antics of the peripheral characters are a tad amusing, but the main story is boring as hell. So a sixteen-year-old girl has a crush on a bland, uninteresting jock. Why should I care about that at all? I shut it off after Molly Ringwald gave Anthony Michael Hall her panties.

A largely Canadian cast, which is certainly what I got.

I’ve waited close to three years for this novel. Signed it out from the library last Saturday, began it that night, finished it early this morning.

It’s a dark, haunting story to be sure. The protagonist is often conniving, spiteful, and treacherous; the remaining characters aren’t much more morally upright; the book certainly doesn’t lack for disturbing & violent imagery. At the same time, it’s quite beautiful, mystical, and if not altogether optimistic about the human condition, nevertheless recognizes & cherishes the innate beauty & mysticism of the human condition. It’s a story that certainly resonates with me.
