I don’t know how a person can be considered any kind of Original Trilogy fan if that person outright hates the concluding chapter and consequently finds the trilogy as a whole to be a flop, but whatever.

I don’t how someone could remotely call the oot a flop.

A flop for me.

So you actually think oot is a flop?

I hate Palpatine’s depiction

Get out. McDiarmid’s performance is one of ROTJ’s saving graces.

He’s a Saturday morning cartoon supervillain.

You’ve confused ROTS with ROTJ.

ROTS Palpatine is just ROTJ Palpatine coming into full bloom.

Your evolving opinion on ROTJ is just insanity coming into full bloom.

I don’t even think ROTJ is great, but it’s much better than you give it credit for. And complaining about the ROTJ Emperor is something I can’t wrap my head around.

You just don’t like being the only contrarian on the forum. You hate the competition.

THE CHARACTERS WOULD AGE AND EVOLVE IN REAL TIME

No more compressing decades worth of storylines, sliding the timeline, or utilizing cosmic resets to preserve the _status quo _and keep the characters static while the world(s) around them changes. One year of storylines in the real world would approximate one year of events in-universe – no exceptions. As the readers age, start careers, get married, have children, and eventually die, so to will the characters in the books (The mortal ones with average human lifespans, anyway.).

[…]

THERE WOULD BE THREE MAIN IMPRINTS — “LEGENDS”, “LEGACIES”, & "TIMELESS"

Legends: Titles under this imprint would feature the classic superheroes, chronicling in real time their lives and exploits from the '30s, '40s, '50s, '60s, and onward.

Legacies: Titles under this imprint would feature contemporary superheroes, chronicling in real time their lives and exploits now, in the early 21st century.

Timeless: Titles under this imprint would be subject to comic book time. Here is where readers go for simple, accessible, continuity-light, one-and-done stories where the characters remain fixed and unchanging.

I’ve rethought my position on this.

Forget period stories (I like 'em, but Tom D. Harry might not); forget real time progression (it might needlessly stymie new/casual readers); definitely forget sliding timelines (I will always hate them outside of humorous cartoon universes). Instead, think Batman: The Animated Series, — a mix of retro & contemporary, with absolutely NO references to real-world politicians/celebrities/pop culture/etc. — perfectly timeless.

That’s what makes him so good. He’s evil he loves it.

TESB showed the series had potential to be more than silly space opera rooted in black-vs-white mentality. Palpatine and his entire shtick is a regression.

Aside from Luke’s characterization and the production values, I hate everything about ROTJ. I hate the second Death Star; I hate Jabba’s palace being on Tatooine; I hate the nonsensical rescue plan Luke & co. hatch for rescuing Han; I hate the “Leia Skywalker” retcon; I hate the Ewoks; I hate Palpatine’s depiction; I hate the notion that if Luke were to give in to the dark side, he would abandon all his ideals & morals and instantly join Palpatine; and I hate the notion that a mass murderer could go to Jedi Heaven just by loving his own flesh & blood really, really hard.

SW & TESB remain great movies, but ROTJ is rotten to the core. It fails as a satisfactory conclusion, and as such the OOT fails as a whole.
