Is higher bit rate more important?
Time

I’m considering doing some fan editing on Avatar The Last Airbender.

There are two sources I can choose from, both come from Blu-ray 1080p H.264
But they have different bit rate and different audio.

One has a bit rate of 5760, but the audio is only stereo audio.
The other has a lower bit rate of 1635, but the audio is 5.1
Logic tells me that having 5.1 audio would make for a better experience.
But how important is it to have a higher bit rate? Does it matter that much for animated content?

I can’t visually tell these sources apart.
So how do I pick which source to use?

[Resource Needed] [Avatar The Last Airbender] HD "Previously On Avatar" clip from "Sozin's Comet
Time

Topic edited, because I have found most of the resources I needed.

I’m working to improve the multi-part episodes of Avatar The Last Airbender. I don’t particularly like how the transitions between their parts were handled, as well as the fact that the “Previously on Avatar” segments were not included on the Blu-ray releases (with the exception being in “The Boiling Rock”).

What I need now is the “Previously on Avatar” segment from the long combined version of the finale - Sozin’s Comet.
This clip is not included in the Blu-ray release, but it is included on streaming services, such as Amazon Prime or Google Play Movies. So I have purchased this episode on both Amazon and Google Play, but I wasn’t able to get a good quality screen recording of it.

Any help would be apreciated.

Harry Potter Extended Editions (Released)
Time

I personally also don’t agree with making the first two movies dark like the later ones.
They were perfect with their rich, colorful, and whimsical tone, perfectly in line with the first two books.

And Prisoner of Azkaban should have also been made in the same style. I know that I wound up falling in love with the Prisoner of Azkaban we got, but I still wish the tone of the first two movies could have continued for the later films. Maybe somewhat darker, but not all way into the direction they went.

JJ, if you decide to release your own extended editions of movies 1 and 2, I’d love to see that.

In addition to using the OPEN MATTE versions, maybe some few improvements from Doctor M’s The Enhanced ABC Cut could be used?

Now, a few more random ideas, though I have no idea how well this could work

  • Consistancy with the use of Polyjuice Potion. It should either always change the voice, or always keep the voice.
  • In Chamber of Secrets, the diary memories had a certain color tint to it. Maybe apply it to the Pensieve memory scenes in the other movies, for a consistant look?

Overall, making magic spells and effects consistant is something that can really improve the experience.

Happy New Year, JJ !
I am so happy that you have re-released your edits, so that more people can experience them 😃

I’m really curious about your idea of deepfaking Richard Harris. While I’m personally prefer Richard Harris’ portray of Dumbledor then Michael Gambon - that does largely come to the acting. Who knows, maybe a more consistant appearance would be nice.
Plus, I’d love to watch movies 1-2 with your edits, too.

I hope you keep the light tone of them though. We already have a different fan edit that makes them darker.

Any hints to what else would be different in movies 1-2 compared to the official director’s cut?

So, here’s an idea.
The current version of Order doesn’t restore the “Trelawney during Umbridge’s speech” scenes.
However, I once saw a (much lower quality) fan edit that did in fact restore it.
It combined both the official Umbridge scene with the deleted Trelawney scene, by alternating between the two characters.

From what I remember, it looked decent, and could work in this fan edit.

I could trim out that scene to demonstrate it, if anyone wants to see.

[IDEA / help needed] Over The Garden Wall - a movie fan edit
Time

I love Over the Garden Wall. It’s a great mini-series.
But, being that it’s so short, I’m thinking of combining all the episodes into a movie.
In theory, this shouldn’t be too hard. If I just merge all the episodes together, and remove the title cards / credits from them, as well as add some fade out effects between them.

But what would I do about the end credits?
I would want this movie edit to have end credits, that takes all the names of everyone who worked on this series.
Would this need to be re-animated then? Can anyone help me with that?

I’m also thinking of adding in the “Tome of the Unknown” pilot into this fan edit. Between episodes 3 and 4 seems like a good place for it, in theory.
Here’s Tome, uploaded to YouTube by the official Cartoon Network channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-0vZeaIrFg
I know this has some inconsistencies from the original series, but I think I might be able to work around them.
The dialogue mentioning searching for the book can be replaced by some dialogue from the original series of searching for Adelaide, and Wirt’s surprised reaction to the living vegetable or the car could be edited out. The narration can also be replaced with just the music. Because the original series only had narration at the very start and very end, and I think it would be better to stay that way.
However, there are still two problems with Tome of the Unknown that wouldn’t be as easily fixable.

  1. Beatrice is voiced by a different actress here, so there would be an inconsistency of voices.
  2. It ends with them riding on Goose, but, of course, Goose is nowhere in the main series, and I don’t think there’s even any audio dialogue that could be used to explain where Goose went to.
So, would it even be practical to include Tome of the Unknown into this edit?

LOST - The Incident (s5 finale) - Silent White-Out Credits edit (Released)
Time

I absolutely loved how the season 5 finale of LOST ended with a white-out, and just when you expect the white screen to transition to the next scene, all of the sudden, the LOST logo appears, in black letters, a complete invert of the usual end card, and a complete invert of expectations. “That’s it? THAT’S where you end the episode and season?”

What disappointed me is that this brilliant move was followed by the regular credits, which, to me, slightly lowered the emotional impact.

So, here’s what I did for this edit.

First of, I used the combined long version of “The Incident” from the US version Blue-ray.

Changes made to the ending:

  • slightly extended the part from when the screen goes white to when the LOST logo appears, for added tension
  • after LOST logo appears, all audio is removed from the rest of the credits, including the staff names, and the Bad Robot / ABC logos.
  • shortened the transition between the LOST logo disappearing and the staff names starting, because, without a fade to black or music, the downtime would be too long, and not needed in this place.
  • The main part of the credits with all the staff names has a color invert effect applied to it, making black names on white background, matching up with what happens with the logo. (Bad Robot and ABC retain normal colors, because they would become super uncanny inverted).

Demo clip: https://youtu.be/rLlYBfkFI-k

Everything else remains the same.

Send me a PM for download.
You MUST own the LOST Season 5 Blue-ray.

And if you ever get to watch LOST together with somebody who hasn’t seen it before, go ahead and show them this version. Let me know what sort of emotions they’d get from the ending the credits specifically.
The effect I’m hoping for is somebody just sitting with their jaw dropped, or staring at the screen is silent confusion.

I haven’t seen the Fantastic Beasts films. David Yates’ Doctor Who is a bullet I’m glad we dodged (supposedly it really did come close to happening), so I’m not keen on a stand-in. Are the movies any good? I do plan on seeing them eventually.

The first Fantastic Beasts film is actually one of my favorite movies in general.
It works good as a stand-alone film, so you could watch it, without bothering with its sequel.

I don’t mind the Marvel style of the intros. New ones still do it well.

But what I liked about the old ones was:

  • Perfect pacing. 30 seconds is a good length, while 50 feels dragged out.
  • Variety of music, with each one being fitting for its own film. Considering many people (myself included) love to marathon the movies, having them play the same music every time would get tiring.
  • Lack of spoilers. That’s important, I know there are still people who are just getting into Harry Potter and starting with the movies instead of the books.

I hope you aren’t upset by the criticism, and can take these factors into consideration.

I’m really happy to hear you are back to this project.
Hope everything goes well for you.

I admire the effort you put into the new intros. They do look really good.
Sorry to say I’m not as big of a fan of these. They feel much slower, the music doesn’t feel as fun. It’s very upbeat and brings up hype, but not as magical / whimsical.
But mostly, these intros show of some actual scenes, such as Voldemort getting the Elder Wand.
I know these are technically made for yourself, and shared with those who are already fans of the HP movies.
But I can still see somebody watching your fan edits as their very first time watching the movies (if somebody recommends it to them, which I totally would do, when / if you bring them back, I would recommend anyone who hasn’t seen the films to just go straight to your fan edits), thus those scenes being spoilers.

Just sharing my opinion.

Either way, good luck with the project, wherever it goes now.

LOST - Season 1, 2 and 3 Finale Fan-Edits (Version 2 in Progress)

I’ve been racking my brain at the comment that the S4 and S5 finales are preserved in their original double-length forms on Blu because…they aren’t. At least, not on my sets, and I’ve been scouring the Internet for any BDrip uploads that have the movie length S4 and S5 finales, and have found nothing - they’re all split.

I was talking to SpacemanDoug about it, and after a while he finally dug up some info - they’re only preserved on the US Region A releases. I imported the UK sets because they were cheaper at the time, and apparently all the scene uploaders also used an international set for their rips and uploads.

Man. That really sucks, I didn’t want to have to re-buy them…

I think I may have found the original double versions of the S4 and S5 finales.
I’m pretty sure I’m not allowed to give download link, but I’m assuming I can provide you vague directions if you PM me about it.

edit:
never mind, they turned out to be low quality tv rips

I’m really sorry you had to deal with such a terrible fate.
Yeah, having your content stolen really sucks.

I already have your editions.
I haven’t had time to get to fully watch all of them. But I’ve seen enough to be able to appreciate your hard work and dedication. Not to mention the sweet editing skills.

Well, I myself am somebody who found these edits from Google, joined to ask for them, and never became part of this community.
This is just the only project on this website that I’ve been interested in, and I didn’t have much to talk about in other forum sections.
Guess it doesn’t make me that good of a user on this forum, but that’s just how things are…

But I fully understand you though. I’ve had times when people I thought were good really let me down, and then I didn’t know who to trust.

I still hope that some day, you can return to this project, and make new versions available.
But if not, I just want to thank you for all the hard work you did.
