Return of the Jedi - was it what it was meant to be?
Time
I thought it was common knowledge that Leia wasn't to be the 'other' that was referred to? Don't they say as much in the 'screenplays' book that came out (Oh and if you can, you should really look at the 'Jedi Council' roundtables on AICN - there's some great great stuff on there). Luke DID have a sister but it wasn't supposed to be Leia, and as far as I remember, an increasingly coked-up and badly behaved Carrie Fisher started making demands, one of them being that it would be a lot more intersting if she were made Luke's sister. In fact she is said to detail all of this in her book (Should be due out soon). It contains all of her diaries and tells of the making of all 3 movies.

Do you really think that if the plan were to have Leia as Luke's sister they would've had that forced love triangle in Episode 4? Granted it isn't a love triangle as such, but there's defiantely something there. It's abandoned more or less for ESB but then it's tonally completely different from ANH anyway.

Info: Anyone Have The Fight Club Workprint? Or any workprints for that matter?

Some news for the people who were on about the Kevin Smith DVD's.

Universal want to release a new 'Dogma' set next year, reinserting a few of the deleted scenes AND they want to give Smith the money to finish a few that require SFX. It's pretty interesting though, 'Mallrats' only came about because the title was withdrawn and when Smith asked why, they told him it was because they were going to re-issue a lot of their best-selling titles, and 'Mallrats' was among them. They also made it clear that they were going to release the set with or without his help. They've also said the same thing about 'Dogma' - It's up to him if he wants to participate, but they're going to release it regardless...

He also said that 'An Evening with Kevin Smith 2' is being held back until next year now because the company making the DVD insist on holding out until 'Clerks 2' is released.

He talks about all of this on his interview over at www.dvdtalk.com

Idea: Help with Starting an a.b.dvd.fanedit group
Time
I'd like to help out if I can, though I really don't know what I could do exactly. But seeing as BitTorrent is as slow as a Hearse for me, despite my 3mb line, I think that a specific Newsgroup for all releases from this site is a great idea. Plus, seeing as a lot of us have Newsgroup access it means we can get the discs and distribute them a lot quicker to those who need them.

Info & Help: looking for... other ld-rips to dvd movies ex. blade runner int cut, songs of the south, frighteners dir cut - and much much more...

Ok then, well that came out all wrong. I wasn't trying to be difficult, just making an observation.

I only asked about the Criterion 'head' because I'd never seen it before, so I'm just guessing that it's exclusive to Laserdisc rather than DVD?.

As for your own logo, the only issue I had was that it seemed somewhat obtrusive. Of course, it's all down to preference though and I'm sure that most people just flat out don't care, I'm not saying that you shouldn't leave your credit on the cover of course, it's just that I felt the logo stuck out like a sore thumb.

But there again...apart from me who's going to see it...

I'm just rambling now, sorry if I've caused any offence though, that really wasn't my intention. I'd love a copy of that cover though, I already have the 'Black and White' one, which is nice. But your cover is a lot classier.

EDIT: Thanks Citizen, turned that on now.

I really like that cover (When oh when is drawn artwork going to come back into fashion). But there's 2 things...

1) Does it need that little head thing next to the 'Criterion' title? (I'm guessing it's their logo?)

2) Does it also need that Jedi/Feta logo on the bottom?

I understand if you want to put your own stamp of ownership on there but I'm just being anal now, I guess I like my covers to be untainted is all.

Info Wanted: Question - some expanded and workprint versions...
Time
Uh, you want the Japanese extended cut? It's only three minutes longer and it's been so long since I've watched the original version I'm not even sure what the differences are anymore.

As for Friday The 13th, the first one is available in it's fully uncut form in the UK.

Is that all? Aw crap, I thought it was longer than that for some reason.

As for the first 'Friday...'. I have that copy, although I'm sure I read somewhere that although the UK cut has more gore than the American R-Rated cut, there is also an Asian version that is completely uncut, I can be and probably am wrong though.

Sorry to all those who were interested, I do not have the workprint of Hard Target as I must have deleted the wrong copy off my hard drive, so I'm stuck with the Japanese extended cut. However, after searching Google, I found this site which has hundreds of workprints for sale, I've never used them before so can't vouch for them, but hell if I had the money they'd be a few discs that I'd order.

Would it be possible to get this off you? I've been after this for a while seeing as, for some reason, I love this film.

Some great uncut prints to get would be the 'Friday the 13th' movies and also 'My Bloody Valentine'

Info Wanted: Question - some expanded and workprint versions...
Time
This is one of my favorite films. How was the workprint different?

Well, not that much is known about it to be honest. The IMDB says that test audiences were 'unhappy' with the film. But there really doesn't seem anything to back that up. What is known is that John McTiernan made his version, submitted it and waited for approval. However, Micheal Crichton decided he didn't like it, so he went ahead and re-cast a lot of the parts and re-shot most of the film, which is why it was delayed for 15 months.

The film is then an odd mix of McTiernan's version and Crichtons. You can tell it's messed up because not only are their styles completely different but the actors have gained/lost weight.

Anyway, there's little chance of this ever seeing the light of day. As far as I can tell, the only time the original footage was seen was during the initial test screenings.

By the way, I can't get that BladeRunner cover to load up either.

I just wanted to know something...

How many copies of BladeRunner are going about? I have the Criterion Disc that was posted to the newsgroup and I have the previous DVD release. Is the 'On the edge of...' documentary also out?

If anyone could get these to me (I live in the UK) then I'll be happy to pass a copy onto someone else or I dunno, send someone a copy of 'Ong-Bak' or something.

Lets not forget the daddy of all workprints...the 'Apocalypse Now' workprint, which I used to own, but sadly I got rid of it seeing as it was a near 5 hour movie and the quality left a little to be desired.

Aside from that, I would've killed for 'Eaters of the Dead' as well. Plus 'Payback', the original version before Gibson altered the original dark tone of the film to make something more comical.

I would love 'Hard Target' as well. I can Paypal the cost of a disc if anyone in the UK has it, or any workprint for that matter.

Lucas's filmmaking rut
Time
First time poster here, and if I may I wanted to make a few points...

First off, didn't Laurence Kasdan have more to do with 'ROTJ' than with 'ESB'? As I heard it, the script was pretty much already completed by the time he had come on board, and he polished off the final draft.

As for Lucas...I think the biggest mistake he made was not directing something before making 'Episode 1'. I think he needed to do something else first, just to get into the swing of things. One of the positive things I can say about Ep3 is that I think Lucas did a great job of shooting it, and decided to loosen up for once. It's a well known story that Spielberg used to taunt Lucas because he would always use static shots, never moving the camera. But what he proves in Ep3 is that he is capable of bringing his A-Game to the table...It's just a shame his writing leaves a bit to be desired, but then Lucas is the first to admit that he finds writing horrible.

I still think he'll get to work directing something else soon. Once the Ep3 DVD is released I think he'll start considering new projects. Yes I know that he has the TV project coming up, but he's just going to be overseeing it rather than being directly involved in the production of it.

As for what he's been doing with his time, well I think that he's been keeping a tight rein over Lucasfilm and all it's affiliates until it's reached a place he's happy with. As he said, he has enough money to fund his films for the rest of his life, even if all of them are failures financially.
