All Things Star Trek
Time

Yeah since when did Picard shoot first and ask questions latter.  The situation in Insurrection is exactly the type of thing he would have talked his way out of on the show, why did it need to turn into a blood bath again.  Also once we get the plot twist that the Baku kicked the Sona off of the planet and now they are dying slowly and painfully there are no straight up good guys.  Now on the show Picard would have refused to take sides once he learned this and used it to force some sort of truce but in the movie he just uses it as another excuse to kill Sona.  The twist didn't change anything so what was the point and Picard is so out of character I don't even think of him as Picard.

I grew up with TNG and I hate the movies because of this, it's painful to admit but it is true. I can't stand the TNG movies.

Yeah, but this one actually makes sense.  I'm assuming he has a question about a movie he wants someone to give him the name of?

And I do, I just described one.  I found the rest of the old threads while looking through the forum to see if there was already a thread like this before I created a new one.

There's a difference between complaining and being downright rude.  I'm not talking about when a customer asks for an explanation for why they couldn't save 50 cents on tater tots.  I'm talking about when that person receives the explanation that oh, turns out the coupon was in english after all, and they got the wrong item (which is understandable, it happens.  But what isn't acceptable:) so they start yelling at the cashier and taking out their frustration on them.

When a customers card or check bounces, it is NEVER the cashiers fault.  Ever.  They have NO influence over that.  (I'm talking specifically about a card being declined for insufficient funds here, I'm not referring to when a card is incorrectly entered into the system or is punched into the system with the wrong numbers or is ran as the wrong type of card)  Cashiers do NOT have the power to approve or deny cards, which is a concept some people don't understand.  Their card is declined for insufficient funds, so they immediately start yelling at the cashier and telling them they did something wrong.  "Invalid Card", "Wrong Card Number" "Card Read Error" may be the cashier, or more likely the computer-operated registers fault.  "Insufficient funds" is NEVER the cashiers fault.

Also something alot of customers don't understand is just how much control the computer/register has.  If the store policy is you cannot buy gift cards in the same ticket as anything else, then that's it.  You CAN'T do it.  The register will not let you, and no matter how badly the cashier may wish to oblige you, this breach of store policy is not even possible.

Like at some (maybe all?) wal-marts you can only buy tobacco at certain registers.  Some customers throw a fit and demand an exception be made for them.  It is literally not possible. The register will not let the cashier do it even if they did think this customer should be immune to the rules.

Talking down to a cashier is a sure sign that you're an ignorant piece of shit as well.  And while the cashier in your story absolutely handled the situation incorrectly and you had every right to be angry, this is not the 'typical' situation of cashier bullying I was referring to.

Yeah well said, I had about five years as a cashier at Wal-Mart and I saw it all.  There wasn't a single case where someone yelled at me where there was anything I could do about it.  In most cases the manager couldn't either because it was corporate policy so the computers just would not let it happen.  I once had an old lady curse me out for five minutes because I could take a fifteen year old coupon. That's not my fault.

Oh and if your card is declined in most stores that isn't the cashier's fault these days because you are the one sliding the card in the reader and entering all the information, if it screws up it is your fault not the cashier's.

Oh and we have no power over whole is working when. If someone calls in sick the law says the manager can not punish them.  The law also says how many breaks the cashiers have to take per shift and when they have to take them and the laws don't leave any room to move that stuff around, at every place I have ever worked at once the law says the cashier has to go on break the register locks them out and because people want low prices the store can't pay two people to work each register all day just to cover the breaks.

You want shorter lines here is what you do. First you have to be willing to see prices go up so the store can hire more people.  Second you need to write your congressman and demand that companies be given the right to fire people for calling in sick, and for being lazy without having to pay for their unemployment.  The fact is the lazy people get away with what they do because of how hard it is to fire them and the fact that in most states if the company fires them they have to keep paying them through unemployment until they find a new job, so most companies figure that they may as well keep the lazy people on and at least get some work out of them.  It a real problem because once the lazy people figure this out they know there is nothing that their bosses can do to them.

Personally I am sick of these so called "people" dragging this country down and I think anyone who is convicted of being lazy should be run through their work place naked and whipped by their coworkers.  That is what kept order in the British Navy for over two hundred years and kept people working hard.  the fact is people only work if they are scared we need to start punishing the lazy and make them wish they were dead.  Then all of our problems will be fixed.

No, they were trying to be edgy and capture the youth market and it backfired.  This really was a stupid move on their part.

How in the world is linking your product to a racist organization an attempt to capture the youth market??

Oh believe me I have met plenty of young people who spray pain KKK and Nazi stuff on things, just because they think it is cool to upset people and will buy Nazi books just because they want to support these groups the adults are always trying to put down.

I know people who get it tattooed on their heads and chests. My brother draws all this stuff on the walls of his room.

There is a market for this stuff and they will pick up some business from young people who want to support them for pushing things and upsetting the "niggers". Sorry but that is how my brother always talks about black people and I think it is important to understand the kind of mindset we are dealing with here and why someone would think there was money in appealing to this group of people.

They most likely expected it would get excused as a typo by most people but they would pick up some new young customers.  The number of racist young people is growing all the time so it is a market worth going after.

There was no risk for them since they could use the typo story, so why not give it a try?

That was not a simple typo, if this company is like any other company I have ever work for then that name had to make it past dozens if not hundreds of people before the public saw it, and not one of them caught it.

What?!? You worked in a coffee shop that employs "hundreds of people"? What do they all do? How is it economically viable to employ that many people in one branch?

No, but I have worked for large corporations before. Do you have any idea the amount of red tape everything, even the most simple change has to go through in order to happen.

Charities having a bake sale in the parking lot have to be approved by people at corporate who have never been to the store.

You are only allowed to put up what they send you, so i find it hard to believe that a spelling mistake that a six year old would catch could make it through a multi national corporation without someone seeing it.

Do you really think that company wide changes like this are done overnight without any sort of planning or oversight by one guy?  That is not how big business work.

Heck the single butcher shop my uncle used to run didn't even work like that, I find it hard to believe this huge company does.

Suddenly there is a sequel I want to see.

District 9 wasn't good, it was great.

It told a real story in the found footage style without being a slave to it.  It didn't pretend someone just happened to be recording everything you see and the way he was able to take bug ugly aliens and make me feel something for them after years of watching Sci-Fi and being jaded by it just blew me away.

It is one of my all time favorite films.  It some how combined gritty sci-fi with buddy cop action, I have never seen that done before.

I can't wait to see what he does with Alien.

How did this get past anyone with a brain cell, why would anyone thing that something grade schoolers would laugh at as stupid would be a good idea?

I mean we live in a world where people find Jar Jar Binks racist, why would they think they could get away with this.

What is next, will Subway start the Subway Savers club and just put two giant Ses on the membership card?

If it is half as good as District 9 I will be very happy.  I haven't been interested in this franchise in a long time but after the last video game and now this news, it really seems like Fox is working hard to make it good again.

This should be good.
