The first handful of frames of that last clip has compression block noise or what ever you call that.
I thought the saturation looked good with the darker shot as well.
I did keep in mind that you had compressed these down.
I think it looks great, now to see the darker shot i had you do before 1:09:00 or around there.

U-571 has an open matte 1.78:1 and 2.35:1 both on blu-ray.
You can extract the VC-1 video stream from the HD-DVD with eac3to which will remove the pulldown flags and give you a 1080p24 stream
I like the 50/50 with grain plate, maybe a screen cap of a darker scene as well ( your choice).

He's pretty darn good at recreating from a trailer. So yeah i'm sure he will rebuild of the 'venetian blind' transition him self.
If you have scans i would definitely love to get them for him.

Yeah, you could have both i'm guessing they would still fit on a BD25 since your using the HDDVD video.

One thing though, the pics you have only show up if i click on them. In this thread they are only square empty boxes.
When a pcm is in a mkv for some reason trmuxer won't recognize, at least for me.
You need to demux it with eac3to as a wav then it will work.
That's because of some healthy high bitrate, yes it's just your pc.
