Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas (Complete) - (Released)

Some good news of late, The Jim Henson Company finally got permission to reinstate Kermit for Emmet Otter! The special even aired recently on ABC Family:
http://kidscreen.com/2015/12/17/the-jim-henson-company-remasters-christmas-classics/

The bad news, they matted it to widescreen and because they restored it in HD, the frame rate has been manipulated.

SPECTRE has divided opinion - I liked it. That’s the thing with Bond, it hops between several styles as the films go on - they all divide opinion to some degree. But you’d have to go a long way to beat Die Another Day as the worst (IMO)

And yet I liked Die Another Day. I thought it was a big silly love letter to the franchise on its anniversary.

It was adapted into a live stage show in 2008, and Paul Williams wrote some new songs for that. Maybe that’s where it’s from?

JEDIT : Wikipedia says it was written for the tv special but was never used.

And I can’t believe I still don’t have a copy of this…

Then get it.

Hmmm. Nearly the worst Bond films (I’m told Spectre is officially the worst). I’m intrigued.

DaF really does need help and a few of those deleted scenes fill plot holes.
I wouldn’t mind seeing some cuts with regards to Wint and Hidd though. They are god awful villains and drag the film down whenever they’re on screen.

Info: The Matrix - with original theatrical color timing?

An update has been posted in the myspleen comments section. It seems the color was indeed off and a corrected version will be released in the future.

Man, and those guys were defending their transfer hard.
Because of the amount of people complaining about some of the scenes being too yellow, and the Youtube clip posted by one of the users we started wondering if the color is right ourselves. Unfortunately, it was revealed that there has been a huge misunderstanding between the person who did the scan and the one working on color correction. I won’t get into details, but a whole movie color grading is wrong and does not reflect the look of the print.

Some of the scenes need minor corrections (these are most likely the ones that made me think the whole scan is right, I haven’t screened the entire print), but others, like the dojo fight or Neo’s interrogation are completely wrong. The movie will get a shot by shot color correction in the next months, if you wish to watch a theatrically accurate version of The Matrix, please wait for the new version (it will be labeled v1.5).
(Sorry, but I have no idea how to format text on this site any more. Man it blows.)

Any information on the Aladdin Diamond Edition blu-ray? Just curious if it’s just the special edition DVD (AKA the IMAX presentation that never happened), transfer or the original theatrical print (of course, with the censored “Arabian Nights”).

Pretty good question. I don’t know. Assuming it’s the same as the UK release that came out a few years back, it’s probably the IMAX repaint job.

Anyone know?

Catbus is right. THe exact shade of green might be hard to remember, but we would remember colors like that.
Considering the black levels are crushed and the light areas are blown out, there are a lot of reasons to believe the film transfer and/or source are sketchy.

Seriously, this isn’t complicated. No one remember the DVD looking wrong when they saw it and that wasn’t that long after the movie came out.
Also, trailers are rarely restored or retimed unless they are cutting a re-release trailer… and the DVD is pretty damn similar.

It make for a pretty solid reference.

Harry Potter Special Extended Editions (a WIP)
Time

I'm currently re-reading Deathly Hallows and came across a discrepancy. Checking the Harry Potter Wiki, it turns out there is no discrepancy, but a deleted scene from Deathly Hallows is wrong because of this.

Thought this might be interesting to know before reinserting the scene.  It might be worth muting her saying the spell, making it looks like she does it non-verbally.

http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Memory_Charm said:

In Chapter 9 of Deathly Hallows, just prior to erasing Antonin Dolohov and Thorfinn Rowle's memories, Hermione says that she has never performed a Memory Charm before, despite having already altered her parents' memories.[8] However, J. K. Rowling has said this was a different charm[3], which alters memories rather than removes them.

Despite Rowling's statement that the charm Hermione used on her parents was not the same, in the Part 1 film adaption, Hermione uses the actual Memory Charm to eradicate her mother and father's memories of her.
However, it all still fits in as in the film Hermione doesn't say she hasn't used it before.
Either symbolically or by actual magic, when Hermione performed the charm on her parents, all images of her in their family pictures were erased as well.

If you check out the change list from my edit of Chamber of Secrets you'll find the official extended cut introduces a lot of flaws that should have been fixed.

Also, the Malfoy crap in HBP: if you check out the original script you can see they recycled some footage (Malfoy pulls an extremely dusty cloth off of the vanishing cabinet more than once) and split up the Malfoy scene to try and extend it suspense or something.

In most cases I've found the scripts to be better than the final cuts and they reveal many of the flaws.  They make great guides to help you edit around those flaws.

I'd recommend running your Deathly Hallows discs through DVD Rebuilder with the added AVISynth script lines:

loadplugin("agc.dll")
HDR=HDRAGC(coef_gain=.25, max_sat=3)
temp=mergeluma(last,HDR,.33)
mergechroma(temp,HDR,.5)

The AVISynth plugin can be found here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=93571

It's what I did with my own copies.  Makes them very watchable.

If you're going to color correct the later films, please boost the brightness too.  I did this for my Deathly Hallows discs, and wish I did it for HBP.  Some scenes are near impossible to see.

The invisibility cloak: In the books it's made clear that invisibility cloaks in general aren't completely RARE, they are just expensive and eventually wear out.  Harry's does not because it is THE invisibility cloak.

From the Harry Potter Wiki:

It was the only known invisibility cloak that would not fade with age and would provide everlasting protection to the wearer, something no normal invisibility cloak could provide.

Mad Eye seeing through it sucks.  But that is in the books.  It's important because there is a fun bit where Harry is stuck hip deep in a trick step under the cloak with Snape and Filch wandering nearby and Mad Eye sees through the cloak and saves his bacon.

There are a LOT of important plot bits that just don't exist.  They may have been shot, but we don't have them to make things make more sense.

The worst of it is some stuff was added that wasn't in the books filling up time that could have been given over to real moments.

I'm on board with this and suggest you do this in HD.  I can tell you that a lot of the deleted scenes on DVD are in terrible condition and hard to work with.

I edited HBP in SD, but had to use Blu-ray deleted scenes because of over compression and banding.

My other recommendation is to dig up the scripts.  They are online and show some of the butchering that took place in the editing stages.  There are a lot of times that single scenes are cut apart or re-ordered to hide a deleted scene.  You will find life easier using it as a guide.

Oh, I understood Doctor M's post to be about Roger Rabbit. Never mind then, yes I've heard the story about The Rescuers.

Yes, my question was about WFRR?, how did we get onto the Rescuers?

I appreciate the desire for having the original untouched, I was just wondering if small single frame detail is actually visible.
