Wait, what? If “the owner” of all prints of the film is just 20th Century Fox (which I don’t think would still be the case since ownership of all Star Wars assets was transferred to Disney), then it wouldn’t just be a few recent screenshots. Everything they have ever done is “unethical” according to that standard. We’ve known for a long time that technically you aren’t supposed to own 35mm prints. You aren’t supposed to upload “despecialized” versions of the movies either. None of this stuff is strictly legal. So there’s got to be more to it than that, UNLESS I was right and this is a consequence of the media exposure, causing Lucasfilm/Fox/Disney/whoever to “contact” the site admins. But I don’t think that’s the case based on the OP.

Peter Mayhew Tweeting Star Wars "Journal of the Whills" script. "Big announcement" to follow...
Time

joefavs said:

I doubt it’s his retirement, we know he’s doing VIII and this seems like a weird time to be making announcements about what he means to do beyond that. Honestly, the OUT didn’t even occur to me when I saw this story yesterday. Here’s hoping it’s that. Maybe a young Han Solo casting announcement? Though I doubt that would be Peter’s news to break. I guess we wait and see. How many pages is the SW shooting script, anyway?

I mean, he never says he would be the one making the announcement. Just that it would be “a” big announcement. My bet is that he knows Disney/Lucasfilm is announcing the OUT for the 40th anniversary on a certain date. It would explain why he’s sharing his script of the original film to commemorate the occasion. Seems more likely it’s about something old than something new.

And if that is true I really hope they not only release it on Blu-ray, but also screen the restoration in a theatrical re-release. I don’t want to get too excited, but with all the buzz going on recently it seems inevitable and the 40th anniversary, 20 years after the Special Edition, is the perfect time. Add on top of that Rogue One’s connection to the original and the fact that Episode 8 was pushed back to December and it seems like May 2017 would be the absolutely perfect time for a theatrical re-release. It’s like too perfect, all the stars are aligned exactly right. Disney would be stupid not to do it.

Did I misunderstood the question? I thought he was asking why they disbanded, not why the team account is banned.

Well he was responding to this:

Which is the announcement of the ban. He asked what that means.

Just How Many ANH Drafts Are There? (Help needed in finding and organizing all the different versions.)
Time

“Starting today I’ll post a few pages from my original StarWars script each day leading up to a big announcement.”

I would bet money that the big announcement is a restoration of the OOT for the 40th anniversary.

Let’s consider all the mounting evidence:

  • Lucas’s friend John Landis claims to know that Disney is planning a release after rumors circulate for some time.
  • Mike Verta says that he is scheduled to meet with Disney and Fox executives to preview and discuss his restoration in relation to a possible official release.
  • Another restoration team appears to have already completed work on a restoration as they have shown it off in demos.
  • Team Negative 1’s Silver Screen Edition makes big news over the last day or two all over the internet. Disney and Fox now have even more pressure to quickly put out an official release to counter bootlegs, same reason the GOUT was released.
  • To lead up to a “big announcement” a year before the 40th anniversary of Star Wars, Peter Mayhew decides to share his draft of the original film from 40 years ago of all things. This isn’t about something new, it’s about the original.

Yeah, I would be far more surprised if it doesn’t happen now. I’ve learned not to get my hopes up regarding Star Wars in the past, but now I can’t help it. I’m getting more and more confident it’s going to happen very soon.

But Disney is notorious for removing old logos of both their own company and previous distributors of their older films and replacing them with updated logos.

Fox only has the distribution rights to ANH at the moment, and those rights revert to Disney in 2020, therefore it really doesn’t matter what FOX wants.

And if I’m being perfectly frank, the only people who really care about the logos and consider them to be as important as anything else in the film are us. People like us on these forums. General audiences do not care nearly as much and the studios know it. I wish I could be optimistic about it, but that’s the sad reality of it.

Disney would most definitely be willing to take out the Fox logo for a release. Assuming they wait until after 2020, fox will have had nothing to do with the release, and disney does not want people thinking they did.

The digital release removed the fox logo on everything except ANH which is only because they legally couldn’t. The only reason it was still on the most recent bluray release is that it was just repackaged discs from 2011 and they didn’t want to have to strike brand new blu rays just for the sake of removing the logo.

And if and when they do an OOT release omitting the Fox logo, general audience reactions will be. “They took out the Fox logo and fanfare, which is kinda sad, but really that’s such a small detail who really cares.” Like I can already see the YouTube reviews in my head.

Actually Fox has the distribution rights for ANH in perpetuity. The other ones revert in 2020.

How did you first see the Star Wars films?
Time

I’m gonna revive this thread to say that my first exposure to Star Wars was the fullscreen 1992 VHS tapes. To this day, only the colors of the pre-Definitive Collection/Faces VHS tapes and laserdiscs look 100% right to me for this reason. And even the full widescreen image, though obviously superior, seems a bit off on some subconscious level to someone who was weaned on pan & scan. Especially the first time I saw it in widescreen, which would have been the 2004 DVDs. At the time, though I disliked most of the changes I was pretty impressed by the picture and sound quality. Of course now I realize that it could and should have been much better, but back then I was just happy to have widescreen digital Star Wars with surround sound, and I assumed George would get around to remastering the original versions soon afterwards. Oh I miss those days of blissful ignorance.

As for the prequels and TFA, I saw them all in theaters when they first came out. Three disappointments (though I admittedly at first enjoyed ROTS for at least attempting to actually give relevant backstory to the originals and I was impressed by the visuals of all three, though they look painfully dated now) followed by one very satisfying film that I think will hold up much better with time. Especially if its follow-ups take advantage of the possibilities it unlocks.

Above all though, I really hope Disney re-releases the originals in theaters so I can say I saw them all, and particularly the best ones, on the big screen. No 3D crap, no Special Edition crap (for whatever reason I didn’t see the SEs in theaters in '97, I honestly don’t even remember their release at all and I didn’t bother with the '97 VHS tapes either). My dream would be restored unaltered films on 35mm or 70mm. Now I know that’s highly unlikely (though maybe a limited 70mm IMAX conversion is possible), but digital would still be fine. And considering it looks like they’re finally planning an imminent official restoration of the OOT, I really hope they do show it off in theaters. Quite possibly to commemorate the 40th anniversary next year. I think that’s my best hope.

I fear Fox and Disney’s lawyers will come down on these like a ton of brick. I’m always afraid of fan-edit downloads of films I’m interested in because of legal repercussions. Which is a damn shame, since I am intrigued by a lot of the ones out there.

Well they aren’t going to come after you, that’s for sure. And I doubt they really care about this anyway. They never have in the past. They only might do something if they really do release an official version of the original. And I gotta say, it sure seems that way if Mike Verta is getting meetings with executives and another restoration team is showing off Star Wars footage in their demos.

The digital versions weren’t the “unaltered” versions so they had no real obligation to include the Fox logo and fanfare. If they were going to market an “unaltered” version, it wouldn’t technically be unaltered if it didn’t have it. Also, they would have to work out some kind of deal with Fox for the original at least anyway. I wouldn’t be surprised if Fox requested the logo be kept in all three and I don’t see why Disney would think it’s a big deal. Everyone knows Fox was the original distributor for Star Wars, there’s no hiding that history and it doesn’t change the fact that Disney owns it now.

The -1 release is very much like watching an actual projected 35mm presentation (complete with the occasional pops, specks, flecks, and stuff you’d see inherent to older celluloid) but it is very much an absolutely “pure” presentation of the original film (and the aforementioned “flaws” add to authentic filmic feel of the presentation), complete with one original theatrical stereo English track.

It certainly looks authentic filmic; however, the sound is GOUT.
Lazy team, was lazy . . . or rushed, as the case may be.

Cue Towne to scold my bad attitude, but I couldn’t resist using that meme

You may know this, but you can get lossless versions of the 70mm surround and 35mm stereo mixes synced up with it on the Spleen. The latter makes for by far the most authentic recreation of the experience watching a 35mm print of Star Wars in 1977.

What Didn't You Like About ROTS?
Time
  1. Too much CGI. Everything looked fake even by PT standards. I mean, literally everything. It feels like watching someone play a PS2 game or something. All the environments are fake, half the characters are fake. Lucas just went way overboard with the CGI in the second two prequels, but ROTS gets the worst of it. Never once am I able to be immersed in the movie. The lava on Mustafar is obviously fake, the space battles are obviously fake, the clone troopers are obviously fake, even things like the Jedi temple are obviously fake. Everything is overly shiny and clean. I just really hate the entire visual aesthetic of the film. At least Attack of the Clones had semi-interesting environments on Kamino and Geonosis.

  2. Bad writing, both characterization and dialogue. This is a constant throughout the trilogy, but some of the most baffling decisions are made here. People hate on Clones’ sand line, but “You are so beautiful - only because I’m so in love - no, no it’s because I’m so in love with you” is not only the worst line in a Star Wars movie, I genuinely believe it is the single worst line of all-time in any movie without exception. Also, in a span of like five minutes Anakin goes from Jedi to conflicted to SLAUGHTERING CHILDREN ULTRA-EVIL. The whole transformation is way too rushed and unbelievable. Knowing Anakin is a serial child murderer also makes it difficult to believe Vader could be redeemed later on and seems completely out of left field, out of character, and unnecessary. Lucas can’t claim that these are children’s movies and then throw in both shit like Jar Jar and mass child murder (by the protagonist no less). Talk about tonal inconsistency. The child birth death is a horrible plot device too. You’re telling me that in this extremely advanced society with amazing technology everywhere, people still die during childbirth? You can make blasters and ships that travel at the speed of light but you can’t think of a c-section? Wat.

  3. Tries too hard to tie everything together, in the process ironically creates more plot holes. Why did they wipe C3PO’s memory but not R2’s? How did Qui-Gon figure out how to become a force ghost, and if only he, Yoda, and Obi-Wan have this knowledge, how did Anakin become one? Why did Luke get stuck on a desert planet living a hard life as a poor farmer while Leia gets to literally be a princess? Why did Yoda and Obi-Wan give up so quickly? Why did they not fight the Emperor together? How were the clones so easily able to dispatch of every other Jedi? It’s like Lucas was just like “oh shit, I’ve wasted two movies without explaining any of the questions a prequel trilogy is supposed to, so let me just throw it all in here at the last minute.” It just doesn’t work and makes a jumbled mess. If Lucas had split the plot of ROTS over all three prequels instead of meandering with pointless stories about child Anakin, trade routes, a terrible love story, and clones, it might actually have been good. Literally the only important information in the prequels is shoved into this one movie.

And keep in mind this is still the best of the prequels. Says a lot about how bad the other two are.

Same here with Free Rapid Downloader, 10 concurrent downloads. My internet connection isn’t that great but I was satisfied. About the same amount of time it would take for a torrent of that size probably.

I was able to find the 720p 3GB torrent for this, along with STAR WARS and The Empire Strikes Back, but don’t know which version number it is. Does MySpleen have a BD25 1080p version? I’m about to look very soon.

Which version you have is shown after the end credits. After the last of the end credits scroll by, the screen fades to black and the music ends, wait about 5 seconds and the version information will appear.

Alright I’m going to check with MPC-HC.
Harmy’s Despecialized for the STAR WARS OT have multiple dubs and subs, correct? I haven’t been following his project and was sticking to other parts of the forum. I should do more research or just read the first posts of his threads.

All except Return of the Jedi. Right now only 1.0 and a 2.0 Workprint have been released, and they only included English Dolby tracks.

Though IIRC 1.0 may have had a Czech or German dub or something, but it didn’t have nearly as many as SW/ESB 2.5/2.0
