Should there be an ULTIMATE EDITION!

How can people be expected to keep up with ever changing films? And when they are expectedly changed, (as Star Wars movies have come to be known in the past decade) how can one say they like the movies themselves? They are changed too often. The new version ISN'T the old version. People like something, it's changed, then the newer version is liked, forget the older one..

You make a great point there. That's why the OOT is so important. It, in my opinion, is the DEFINITIVE version, not just because its better, but because it is unaltered. If Lucas had never tried replacing it with the various special editions, than we wouldn't ever have a room full of people who know a different version than another person.

The OOT simply needs to be called the definitive version, the one everyone should know and base thier opinions on.

We have to buy this set atleast to preserve it for the next generation of fans
Time
While I agree with the OP on the fact that we need to preserve the OOT, and think he's absolutely right, it just seems out of the question to buy another set. I don't have the money to spend just to preserve the OOT. If I had the money, I'd do it in a second, but I don't, and I think that's the case with a lot of us.

The Most Boring Commentator Ever
Time
I don't listen to a lot of commentaries, and have never listened to one on the Star Wars DVD's. I only watch commentaries when there seems to be some humor value in it, or if its something that really reveals a lot about the subject. I watch all the commentaries on the Simpsons DVD's. Those guys are funny, and they have a lot to say without whining about limited resources.

The only other commentary I ever watched was, and I highly reccomend this if you are a fan of the books, is the commentary on the Series of Unfortunate Events DVD between the real Lemony Snicket and the director. It is so funny, and was much better than the actual movie, which was a let down. Even if you didn't like the movie, the commentary is simply hilarious.

Je, how could you say such awful, blasflamous things?
With all these changes, on top of the ones already made, it would be easier to just remake the movies. That would make CGI-loving, shallow people happy. The lightsaber fight in IV is NOT lame. It's fine as is. And Ewan McGregor is a better Obi-Wan than Alec Guiness? Yeah right.

And CGI DOES NOT MAKE A MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yoda looked so much more believable and real as a puppet than in CGI. Palpatine's face in VI was much more evil than the CGI mask in III. The OOT is great because we know its all real. Yoda, the spaceships, the creatures. They were all real, even if they were minuratures, and they looked it too, adding a layer of realism and depth into the OOT. THe prequel trilogy sucked because it did not have the heart of the OT. I didn't feel real at all because of all the damned CGI. If it were my choice, filmmakers would stop putting so much CGI into films, and stick with minuratures and models.

You're entitled to your opinion of course, but just think about the fact that if all these changes were made, they would not be the films that so many people poured thier hearts into.

Alternate Endings For The Trilogy....
Time
To take our minds off of the shabby release of the OOT, I thought I'd start a little game here that might have some fun results. Just make up an alternate ending to the trilogy, or quote one you heard on TV or from someone else. It can also be an alternate ending to any one of the movies, it doesn't have to be an ending for the trilogy.

I'll start. I got this concept from a TV show.
In the shocking climax of the film, Palpatine reveals that it is Chewbacca who is truly Luke's father!! Chewbacca appears out of nowhere and growls. "Son!" Luke cries "Father," and there is a dramatic moment before Chewbacca picks up Palpatine and throws him over the railing. Darth Vader runs.

I just compared my 'Hoosiers' Anamorphic & Non-Anamorphic DVD's

I know Lucas is a dick, and trust me, I have been enraged since finding about this shit he is pulling, but I am just being honest, I really think I am gonna buy them, cause there wasn't that HUGE of difference where I would say within seconds, "This is just shit quality!" All those Non-Anamorphic DVD's were actually pretty good I watched scenes from tonight. Not spectacular, but not worth the boycott of missing the movies I love.

I am sorry guys, but I have to say I have done a 180, but atleast it was from a comparison, so I am being honest with myself.

The only thing I can tell you guys to do is maybe rent a DVD from Blockbuster that is non-anamorphic and do the comparison yourself.

Lucas is fucking us, so might as well enjoy the movies we love, instead of seeing Hayden in ROTJ!

Don't back out now! Just because the quality is "good enough" isn't cause for throwing in the towel! If you do, than Darth Lucas has already won!

The level of acceptability for an "O-OT"

Right on.

While I think the September releases will look fine, most-likely better than my bootlegs (which I must say look amazingly good) I don't plan on buying. I shelled out twenty five bucks for my bootlegs. I'll be spending ninty on the new set. Also, I don't want to have a set in which the OOT is on disc 2 as a bonus feature.

The only way I'd buy a Lucasfilm release at this point is if we get a "goddam motherf-ing DVD" that has been restored to pristine quality, without pink lightsabers in there....

What scene in the (O-)OT do you hate/dislike the most?
Time
What I hate the most....Well, I can honestly say I have no gripes with any scene in the OOT, but one of my least favorite scenes in the Special editions (1997-2004) would be the Jabba scene. Jabba doesn't look like Jabba, doesn't talk like Jabba, and the scene is superfluous. Why was the Greedo scene in there at all if there was going to be a Jabba scene ten seconds later?

The scene I hate the absolute MOST is in ESB 2004 edition, when the emperor talks to Darth Vader. While it was a good idea to replace the old emporer with the one in the rest of the series, the scene screws up so much in the area of drama. In ESB 2004, we see his face in full. In 1980, the point was that we DON'T see his face, so it is more dramatic in ROTJ. Also, the Emporer tells Vader Luke is his son, not only ruining the ending but changing Vader's whole charecter. For one, there was no way in hell Vader didn't know Luke was his son. Padme was pregnant. She had a kid, he knew this. Luke SKYWALKER, Vader's last name. Anyway, my biggest gripe with Vader only knowing from this moment on is that his redemption is less powerful in 2004. It is much more meaningful when we know Vader has been trying to kill Luke for two solid movies, even when he knew full well he was his son, and in the end, he found that he just couldn't do it when the time finally came.

LOL to the original post. It's probably true is the sad part....

I read through some of the posts, and saw that some people commented about you have to buy the release and make it sell incredibly well if we want a blu-ray disc realease. While this is true, George Lucas hates the OOT so much, I can just see the conversation now if the numbers come in huge....

JIM: Mr. Lucas, look how many people ran out and bought the Limited Edition release of Star Wars!!! It's the best sales we've ever had for a home-video release!

GEORGE: People DID want the special editions on individual sets! I KNEW it!

JIM: And it couldn't have anything to do that it had the Unaltered Version as well?

GEORGE: People don't buy DVD's for Bonus Features. Especially when the Bonus Feature is a half-assed piece of crap made in the 70's.

JIM: So what about a high-definition release of the Unaltered Trilogy? It's apparent the fans want it.

GEORGE: Jim, you're a moron. Fans don't buy discs to get Disc 2. They buy em' for what's on Disc One. THe incredible sales ofthis release tell us that fans want the special editions more than ever!!! Jim, go get rid of every version of the Unaltered Trilogy left, and scour every house in the United States to find home-video version of the releases. When you have them all, burn them.

JIM: Really?

GEORGE: It's either that or I fire you.

JIM: On it.

As Much As I'd Love A Remastered Version of the OOT....
Time
I don't trust Lucasfilm to do it right. With all the respect they've showed the OOT in the past, it'd have the same treatment the 2004 dvd's got. It'd come out of the blender with pink and green saber's, and miscolorings everywhere....

Of course, a frame-by-frame process would be perfect, if they'd devote the time to it. Anyone catach the 2005 DVD of Wizard of Oz? It'd be nice to get a remastering like that.

So if they do remaster the OOT, that might be a bad thing. Darth Vader has a red lightsaber!!! NOT PINK!!!

DVD controversy mentioned on imdb.com
Time
Man, George Lucas really hates his fans. Someone else posted part of a recent interview, and man did it piss me off. It was something like, "Now we'll see if fan's really wanted the originals, or the improved versions."

How exactly does George not know which versions fans want? For god sakes, all anyone has to do is get on a forum with Star Wars posts, like this one, to see what version fans want.

I don't disrespect George Lucas. He created three of the best films in cinematic history. Then he screwed with them. That would have been all right, if only he'd left the un-screwed with version around with the "improved" version. But instead, he basically tells us the OOT is just a piece of crap he made back in the ninties. George could redeem himself in the eyes of fans, (well, at least in my eyes) if he'd just give us an anamorphic, remastered version of the OOT. George likes the Special Editoions better. I respect his opionon. Why can't he respect ours?

And about mentioning the topic on IMDb, that was just silly. They just took bits and pieces from the press release to make us all look like the bad guys.
