Righto. Little tweaks like that, to just make shots more dynamic, I'm all for. I just don't want to take away the overall aesthetic of the OT films in the name of "modernising" them.

Me neither, I just sometimes balk at the idea of making anything OT look like anything PT. I think that's understandable :-)
Rather than replace with the PT lights, I'd just amend the OT displays. You might have meant that :-|

We already revisited that possibility of Bespin being a binary system. Personally, I would rather not make it binary, but then I don't care so much about what are, let's be honest, rather trivial inconsistencies such as which direction the backlighting in the clouds is. And for one minor glimpse of the sun behind the cloud car, if I cared so much it would be that shot I changed, rather than the subsequent, more striking shot of cloud city with the sun behind it.
No, of course people should suggest changes they'd like to see, but let's try to be realistic about what's possible, otherwise it all gets a bit pointless with regards to actual fan edits.
Regarding the lighting display, why make it match AOTC? Is it really so different that it matters? If I were changing anything, it would be making the prequels look more like the original trilogy, not the reverse.
Topdawg192, that's a pretty comprehensive list of further changes to make. Have you thought of doing some of it yourself? Some of those things you've suggested would take a long time to do, and Ady is clearly focusing on his Empire edit. I doubt very much he wants to devote the amount of time required to make more changes like that. Maybe he will, but I doubt it.
And seriously, some of your ideas are ridiculous: revamp Luke's garage to make it like Attack of the Clones? Why would you want to do that? This place is supposed to be run down, grimey. It's a garage. And it was all a real set. Half of the AOTC garage is CGI - all the backgrounds beyond the main room where Anakin and Padme talk are fake, including the room Anakin throws something into. And replacing a static background to improve the set is one thing, but changing a set when the camera is moving is entirely different and virtually impossible to pull off with footage that wasn't shot for such purposes.

Well, that wouldn't be a problem for me, I have to work frame by frame for my job, so it's fine.
It's hard to really tell what that oval thingie is. Love the window, though.
I just hope all this Bespin stuff doesn't lose the aesthetic that made it so beautiful in the first place. It's already looking less McQuarrie than I'd prefer personally.

After all, more than 50% of the star systems in our galaxy, and by reasonable extension all galaxies, are binary, and a significant number are tertiary or even higher. Yay, that's my solution ;-)

That's where I'm coming from, too. I don't care that the clouds on approach appear backlit, that is purely for the photographic effect. And anyway, that backlighting is also inconsistent so it doesn't provide a solid base for objecting to the proceeding shot of the sun being behind the city. And if they fly around some of the city to reach Platform 327 then it's completely feasible, even likely, that their bearing to the sun will change.
As for the fish tank, I'm all for it. I might add Dorie from Finding Nemo swimming by.
I can live with the odd hard-to-remove reflection, as the benefits are bigger.

Loving that black! Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the red part of the light spectrum per se, I just think that room looks awful. Even when I was a kid I never liked it.

Uh, that's not what I said, and I can't say I fully agree with your positioning. Anyway, it's a minor point; I can't say I ever really cared that the backlit clouds didn't indicate the same source light as we then see the sun to be in. I think the sequence is generally very beautiful, so I can happily leave the protractor in my pencil case.

We just mentioned that up the page, and yes, it's terribly lazy work on the part of the FX guys. If the shot were a static camera position it would be very easy to fix indeed, might take a little longer seeing as there is a slow zoom. But yes, I'd try to fix that shot as a priority.
That looks very nice indeed. I like the clolour correction, or rather alteration in this case, and the blue laser works great against your new sky.
As for the position of the sun, the Falcon is pretty much heading in the same direction, save the odd artistic flourish to send it through a nearby cloud etc. I still disagree with Adywan's argument that the sun is in the same position except in the two shots where it is behind Cloud City. The backlit clouds are inconsistent, and really, backlighting for me doesn't take precedence over the shots where the sun is actually visible.
As for the SE shots of the Falcon flying through the city, who's to say which side of the city Platform 327 is on? This thing is circular, so there is no proof of which side the sun should be in those shots.
That morning matte really is lovely. It actually makes the city part look more city-like than ever. I think I'll have a got at a daytime matte now, I've been inspired!

Well, thank you, that's very generous of you to say. I will put up more matte paintings as I get them in some sort of near-finished state.
Well, it's not a mountain line, rather just a ridge on top of which Tosche Station sits.
The problem with it being crisp is that we're all so used to incredibly inferior image quality. I have considered "dirtying up" the CG work I do, which actually was an industry norm for some years in order to blend it in with non-CG shots so that the different film stocks don't clash as much, but as I'll hopefully one day have lovely full HD versions of these movies to work with, I'll leave them clean. I might actually add a distant mountain line to distinguish and give it more depth levels.

Those cloned troopers are just lazy, lazy work from ILM. I know the Special Editions were at times rushed, especially Empire and Jedi, but come on, they didn't even put a time delay on the repeated action.
Well, they don't call them clone troopers for nothing :-)

But that wouldn't be anamorphic, which is what the suggestion was. Putting a 4:3 image into a 16:9 frame isn't the same as putting 16:9 or 2.4:1 into a 4:3 frame.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of those health spas, but McQuarrie did the tibana gas mines too, and I like them. I'm a bit of a Bespinphile, like many of us.
As for Adywan, I don't think he's one to use other people's work, no matter if it's good or not. I'd certainly be happy to let him, but I don't think he'd want to.
