Lowry Digital only cleaned the SE prints. They never touched the OOT.

no they did. I read an interview with John Lowary on MAC.com (don't know if it still there though) talking about them cleaning nearly 30 year old masters and I'm almost positive that the SE's aren't nearly close to being 30 years old lol.

Thats a good point. Isn't there a legal thing about that kind of stuff and movies on home video?!?!?!?. Cuz if there is then LFL WILL have to give us film transfers!

If I had to guess (DISCLAIMER: and this is purely a guess, with no real concrete knowledge) I'd say that the fact that these are considered "Bonus Features" will exempt them from a lot.

damn them
And none of the original prints were destoryed for the most part. Alot are in archives that LFL can't control and GL has his own set. But he will never admit that.

those are awesome. Those might also work well with the Starkiller Saga edit with a few cahnges (but nevermind that now lol)

I can keep from releasing them if you want. i have not released the high res ones yet.

no you should release them but use something similar for the Saga edits. But the covers are all up to the main people of the edit.

haha nice.

I guess if LFL end up releasing a flippin' sweet set next year, I'll just have to buy them again.

I am starting to regret preordering them, although with the free shipping, rebates, and the 10% off code (FYE) they really aren't going to be that expensive...

I know that's not the point, though. The point is that we shouldn't even be having this discussion because the September releases should be anamorphic!

thats my guess is that we will get an awesome set next year. And I don't beleive one word about them not releasing the OOT on Blu-ray.

I'm so excited about trying to work in Coruscant. And also with the ROTJ edit are you guys still thinking about trying to expand Endor and add thing into Endor as if it is being destroyed by the Empire by popultion or whatever the idea was I can't remember haha. And with the force ghosts is there anyway to make them morph from Old Anakin, Obi-Wan, Yoda to young Anakin, Obi-Wan, Yoda??

What you are asking for is for the movie to not only be in the original perspective but you want to be able to toggle that perspective to be something else. If you want a pure experience then stop asking for them to make it toggleble. The movie reels were never Anamorphic and there is no way to have made them that way. So stop asking for him to make DVD's that way. Yes, you can make the dvd support all of a DVD players options but that doesn't make it any truer to the original movie. That is the main reason to buy the release.

P.S. I read the anamophic faq things posted in the forum days earlier so get off the subject.

Are you a fool. the whole trilogy was filmed on 2.35.1 anamorphic film!!!!!!!!. they filmed it with a Panavison amnamorphic camera!

Ahhh, now this is the problem, some people want fixes (sbres matte lines etc.) other people consider those types of fixes unacceptable and leading down the path to the SEs anyway.

If we could just convince ILM to give us a straight ananmorphic film transfer, then there are plenty of people who could put the fixes in later.

If they don't do a straight film transfer, people can't take the fixes back out again.

There is no way Lucasfilm would go to the big trouble to meet that list (although I'd love it if they did) it would be far too much time and money, but a straight transfer would be relatively cheap and quick to do - it would keep the hardcore fan base happy (that want it with NO changes of any description) and give the rest of us the raw material to just do the fixes that suit each of us (which will probably be different for each person), it would be nice if the different audio mixes were available too, but we already have an excellent PCM track on the laserdiscs and I'd prefer to see a maximum video quality on these releases.

I understand what you mean. Some poeple liek the fixesthat were never suppose to be there and some don't.

They say the releases will finally come out -- but will look like shit, deal with it.

...

Exactly. Lucass is known for going back on his word, so I don't think the fight is over.

I suspect we'll get something new next year as well. The fact that he's releasing them this september tells me something. I agree with the post above this is probably a ploy to sell all those unsold 2004 DVDs. The fact that the 30th anniversary is NEXT year, well I have a hard time believing this is the only OOT release we'll see. I have a feeling he'll do something nice for that and hopefully fix the 2004 versions as well (yes more changes, but the set is broken). Next year I'm seeing a new box set with the PT, 2004 (hopefully fixed), and OOT cleaned up and in an anamorphic transfer with a bunch of extras we haven't gotten yet. Hell, we already know the footage exsists, it's IN THE EMPIRE OF DREAMS DOCUMENTARY for crying out loud.

EDIT: Spelling.

Ya really he is releasing a TON of stuff on that boxset next year. Your heard what Mckalilm (or how ever you spell his name lamo) talked about find everything that hasn't been released for the 30th ann.

What about the original concept for ROTJ where Luke traveled to Had Abbadon?

You could have the DS2 being built, but instead right above Coruscant and have Vader at the opening travel on his shuttle to Coruscant instead of DS2.

You could take elements of nighttime Coruscant views from the PT, of which there are several, and comp them into scenes outside The Emperor's throne room windows.

That is a really interesting idea...but how do you explain why the DS2 is suddenly at Endor? It may be a neat exercise, though.

It could move , but it should still definately be tried. Or make it so that the emperor throne room is not on the DSII and have it be in Coruscant.

Maybe when GL dies (I know thats a mean thought but hey) we will get a good verion of the OOT

Or Marcia if that heresay is true, but, well, you know.

Chances are, that is a very real possibility. We now have a fully restored King Kong thanks to remastering and lost footage found and all that to put back in what the censors took out. It may be that our children and our children's children will have to suffer with the SE's but seventy or so years after Lucas eventually kicks the bucket, the original version will be restored to the public. Why? Because at that point, the smokescreen of "artistic vision" will be seen as tha sham it is *AND* the CGI in the SE will not look so hot anymore (if they ever did) so the only people interested in the films will be those looking at them from a historical perspective, which means the originals will be what they want, and they'll get them if they have to painstakinging reconstruct the visual information by hand.

I thought about bringing this up too about KING KONG. How the hell can the star wars print have gone to bad shape (the way they talk about them at least) if the print that they used for the dvd(KING KONG) had been losted sense 1936 or something. And it still held up fine. LFL are the biggest bunch of liers ever!

What LFL should do to get all of our respect back is for do it right like this
STAR WARS:
good film transfer
No Matte lines
fix the sabers so that they are not changing colors ever few scenes
70mm audio mix
35mm audio mix
Mono mix
1985 mix
option to change the crawl

EMPIRE STRIKES BACK:
Seamless branching 35mm version or 70mm verion (or at least the 70mm version cuz that was the first version released)
good film transfer
No Matte lines
fix the sabers so that they are not changing colors ever few scenes
35mm audio mix
70mm audio mix
1985 mix

RETURN OF THE JEDI:
good film transfer
No Matte lines
fix the sabers so that they are not changing colors ever few scenes
35mm audio mix
70mm audio mix
1985 audio mix

Or at least something along the lines of that. It is a shame that LFL is too lazy to give us a good product. Maybe you can convince them to liscence it out to Criterion for a while. Maybe the XO project could pull this off *hopes*
