Power off the Surfboard for 30 minutes, and by "power off" I mean pull the unplug the electrical cord from the modem.....you don't want any electricity at the modem. Shut down your computer.

After 30 minutes plug the power back into the modem, turn your computer back on....it might take a few moments for the cable modem to sync back up so be patient.

This did not work. :(

Finally, cgi has also led to the advent of "digital editing" (is that what it's called?) where filmmakers can literally splice two seperate takes together to get the performance they desire. I remember seeing this on some "making of" for one of the prequels. Lucas maybe liked take 2 for Anakin, but liked take 6 for Obi-wan. Instead of trying to coax each actor into giving the desired results together in one take by giving them good direction & feedback, Lucas was able to just splice those two takes together in editing. IMO, this just KILLS any chance of getting good chemistry between the actors. It's not something I think Speilberg would or has used, but it is something cgi has brought about & it's a concept I utterly detest.

Peter Jackson used that a lot for the Lord of the Rings. You can notice a lot of little details changing from one view to another here and there. The worst is when Boromir dies in fellowship since the location of their hands changes back and forth (it ruins the drama for me).

Thank God I don't notice the little details like that. I hardly ever notice visual continuity errors in movies, even egregious ones like Ben Afflack's scarf in Pearl Harbor.

is your laptop using the same modem but on a wireless connection or is it totally separate?

1/ assuming that your laptop uses the same modem for internet access but wireless:
With it not working when wired to the LAN(i assume that's the way its connected) the it could be that either your modem has died but only on its LAN connection or its internal firewall is blocking access. Or if it is USB connection check the cable (maybe try a different one) if still no problem check in your modems settings that the USB is enabled (sometimes it can disable itself on some modems)

2/ assuming that it doesn't use the same modem but uses the same phone line and ISP account.

well if you laptop can access the internet but you other computer can't then it does point to the modem so you may need a new one. If you can try a different modem then that will help with finding the solution.

I'd need a lot more information about your setup, what model modem it is etc to be able to help further though

My laptop and desktop are two separate things altogether. The laptop uses an Altel wireless broadband card.

My desktop's modem is a Motorola Surfboard provided by the cable company, and I have the connection made via the ethernet cable.

I'm trying to think of stuff that comes close but its hard--stuff like Wing Commander and Battlefield Earth, though bad, is at least two or three times more convincing in that department. My argument has always been: if a high school student wrote and directed Attack of the Clone--what would be different about it? I can't think of anything.

Wing Commander was one of the very movies I was thinking of. That movie is terrible. Attack of the Clones is a good story with bad acting and some cringeworthy dialogue. They're not even in the same stratosphere of suck.

And are you really serious? If a high school student wrote and directed Attack of the Clones, it wouldn't have had Ewan McGregor, Ian McDarmid, or a multi-million dollar special effects budget... need I go on? Yes, Padme and Anakin's dialogue is sophomorically bad, but the same can be said of Episode 3.

Nothing could be worse than Burton's Planet of the Apes. But then the whole film was on that kind of level anyway. It was like a final dump in the toilet to a two-hour bowel movement.

Wow. You've put in to words exactly what I had been feeling about that film since the evening I saw it. To me, Burton's PotA and GL's AotC are the two worst films I have ever seen.

If Planet of the Apes and Attack of the Clones are the worst you've seen, you're VEEEEERRRRY lucky... And for that matter, even those two movies aren't in the same league of badness.

If you ask me, all the over the top stuff just made the movie more fun. I see so many movies anymore have to try to be realistic--even Narnia with its talking badgers and sword-wielding mice tries really hard to obey the laws of physics. It was nice to see a movie cut loose and totally give them the finger.

I saw it a second time last night, and I have to say, the second viewing was a MUCH better experience. I guess it was just the fact that I knew where all the miscues were and knew what to expect, and could pay more attention to the plot, etc.

The one glaring thing I still have a problem with though, besides all the gratuitous CGI, is a missing scene telling us how the dean got his job back after resigning...and Indy being vindicated in the eyes of the FBI. I mean, a quick 30 second scene would've done it.

Can someone tell me how Indy's actions in Akator (which no one witnessed) would've somehow vindicated him and earned him his job back, AND a promotion on top of that?

Well as many Commies as Indy and Co killed I'm sure that earned him some points with the FBI... but I agree, that was a loose end they shouldn't have left untied.

I dunno, I kind of liked it. I hated the idea of Aliens in Indiana Jones myself, but for some reason when they were revealed to be from another dimension instead of outer space it made it tolerable. I guess because Indiana Jones has a precedent for other dimensional beings (Marduk in the video game The Infernal Machine, for example)...

But space men are too out there. Go figure.

SMRPG has been fun so far, and the Mario and Luigi series on hand helds is also great.

I lost a lot of respect for Yahtzee after his review of Brawl. I expected him not to like the game, but he just casually dismisses all fighting games for the very flaw that defines a bad one. And more importantly, the review wasn't funny at all.

He's good when he's reviewing the genres he knows, but he's an idiot when reviewing games outside them.

Okay, I got it to work, but just once. If I accidentally hit 'play game' without loading a ROM, the system freezes on the Color Test screen, and I've had both games freeze up the Wii when I tried to run them. But I did get Earthbound to run once, so I guess it's just sort of a toss up whether it works or not... I just hope I can load my saved game since I didn't have an opportunity to save state...
