Blame Lucas.

For some reason, he wanted them to act as though lightsabers were excessively heavy. How a blade made of freakin' ENERGY could be heavy, I have no idea.

Of course I care about nature...

I just don't worship it. It was more the propaganda nature of the show and its cheesey excecution rather than its message that bothers me.
