OK if a school blocks the "TV turnoff week" website, labeling it "humour", there is something REALLY wrong going on over there... Chaltab, open that website on your home, print up some of the ads talking about TV turnoff week and put them at your school, maybe there's a post board where you can put those...? I'm just wondering for how long (and I mean seconds) they'll stay there


If my school had some sort of public forum of that sort, people would write all kinds of stupid/immature or biggoted remarks there.

Actually, I'm not really all that into anime. I've just heard that Nausciaa is really good, and since it was in the scifi-fantasy genre, I thought I'd probabl like it. Like I said before, I really don't get into Cowboy Bebop or Evangelion, though Full Metal Alchemist is looking like it is going to be good.

Unfortunately, Cartoon Networks schedule for FMA is unclear to me right now, so I only catch it about ever five episodes.

That said, I normally watch it in English unless the English track really sucks.

Yeah, but I'm talking about the somewhat more serious stuff like Yu Yu Hakusho or Full Metal Alchemist, or of course Evangelion. I don't want crap like Yugioh in America at all, dubbed or subbed

Actually, I only asked the question to make my point. Some people can't read subs, and somepeople don't like to. I have to wear my glasses when I watch a subtitled movie because my eyes are so bad. (Or set really close to the TV, making them even worse)

Disney is selling Nausicaa as a family movie, and you know the modern western family isn't going to set down and watch it in Japanese. It was probably that you ridiculed the idea of watching the movie dubbed that surprised me more than anything else.

Those of us in the DBZ fan community were trying to figure that one out for years. During Season two, for some reason unbeknownst to all the rest of man kind, they cast a woman with a grandmotherly voice named Paula Chambers as Frieza. Maybe it had something to do with the shortness or the purple and lavender patches on his skin, I have no idea...

In Season 3, the voice cast was changed when Saban lost control of the franchise; Funimation could no longer use the "Ocean Group" actors, which were generally better but not good... So they hired a bunch of D-List voice actors. Rather than bucking the trend of terrible voices, they had the new actors and actresses imitate the season 2 group (!!HOW STUPID!!) and the result is the audio travesty that is Funimation's season 3.

2) What do you mean? What did I say there? The voices in the Dub of Nausicaa don't suck like they do in most dubs. Have you seen the dub of Zatch Bell on Cartoon Network? Zatch Bell, I swear, is played by the same woman who plays Jimmy Neutron!

4)Granted, but text can't convey the same emotion. As Uma Thurman said in the Behind the Mic feature, Japanese speach has different vocal emotional paterns than English, so sometimes scenes feel off because of that difference.

Still, I like to listen in Japanese. I'm not attacking the original version, just defending the dubbing. What I'd like to know is why all anime even have to be dubbed? Most anime dub companies can't even find decent voices, so why not just show them in the original voices with subtitles? Wouldn't that be cheaper?

I'm not against watching it in Japanese. Infact, I intend to over Spring Break next week. But I doubt my family would be too apreciative of that. They think me watching things in Japanese is weird period. I just meant it was weird that you only watch it in Japanese.
Actually, I have watch about the first half hour and bits and peices here and there in Japanese. I wanted to see if Disney changed anything.
