You've got ahead of me!
I'm pulling in the NTSC repack as I type. Should have it burned by tonight (hopefully) and will report as soon as I can check it.

I've been trying the torrent thing for this download and it is taking forever. At my current rate, I may have this thing by mid-next week sometime. (A week to download) I guess I'm thinking ahead to the DVD-9, and I do not want to go this route as it would probably take a month to download.

If anyone is willing would you please provide some guidance as far as the newsgroups? It seems like a way faster way to get this edit, and I'm sorry I know nothing about this junk.

Thanks, and to all of you veterans of this forum, I know these posts make some of you angry, (probably thinking, who would not understand this stuff, what a beginner loser), but I promise I'm not whining, etc., I'm just looking for some honest help!

I came to the conclusion long ago that we probably won't see the real final version until around the third release of the DVD-9. I'm considering everything up to that a test build.

Bud, I TOTALLY understand your comments about people moaning about the torrents et al...

But you're also seeing "gripes" where there aren't any.

I think everyone INCLUDING Ady realised I was having a laugh re: the *credits* crawl.
I also think if you hadn't gotten into your particular mindset on this one, maybe 'you' would have too.... Relax.

So i have created a new template based on my PAL one. Because the PAL one plays ok in your HD-DVD player but not the NTSC one it looks like this is the problem. I know when i was doing test encodes my PS3 had problems playing the PAL tests if this option was un-ticked. I would have thought that the official NTSC template would have had this enabled by default especially with it not being present in any of the settings that could be modified in that template.

As for the credit listing i had to make a cut off point as to who would be included and a hell of a lot of people started posting after this deadline. if i were to add your name in the credits then i would have to do it for everyone else that has posted since that point and the credits would now be half hour long. But don't worry. theres always ESB Revisited

Ain't dvd structure weird!

And secondly...

<<sniff>> Sulk... None of the other newbs told you about the menu mistakes... <sniffle>

But I understand ...

No... really... I DO....

Total newbie over here.

I am over at alt.binaries.starwars, but I'm confused. All I know is that I want the PAL version, but their seems to be many to choose from. Also, how do I download (do I press NZB?) and do I need to be a member or something to do that?

Thanks

HI.
What you want to download is the PAL version that has "REAL PROPER" in the title.

The first had a menu glitch and the second was pulled about a third of the way in cos it was also broken.
Ady posted the REAL PROPER post to make sure everyone was aware which one to get.

It's well worth it!

So it has to be a bug with the Firmware on the NTSC only players. I also tested it on a very old Bush DVD player that has always choked at the slightest problem on a DVD and again the NTSC played fine. Someone has pointed out that when loaded into DVDREMAKE it shows some errors. well i have checked this and although that program reports the errors they are just remote button commands, present on both the PAL & NTSC, but these would have no impact on the playback of the DVD. My guess after all this is that its just the TOSHIBA HD_DVD NTSC players that just don't like Procoder encoded mpegs due to their firmware. If you do a google search you will see threads stating that their players did the same with some retail HD-DVDs before an updated firmware. Same freezing issues mentioned here. Good luck with ever getting a fixed firmware now Toshiba have dropped out of the HD-DVD market though. And it definitely does seem localised to just the Toshiba NTSC players. Seems like the XBOX360 HD-DVD drives play it fine. Also it has been mentioned that the trivia track disappears on the NTSC when skipping chapters. has anyone else had this problem? I tested it on the PS3 & my Panasonic DVD-recorder and i can't see a problem.

Well i'm half way through the isolated score track for the DVD-9's. Originally i was going to remix the track into 5.1 but its now looking like it will just be stereo due to disc space.

Okay, posting cos I said I would.

Got the NTSC version, same way as the PAL.
Mounted and burned same was as the PAL.
Played it on the same machine as the PAL.

Same errors that everyone else was reporting! (I was surprised!)

Freeze at the Ep IV revisted logo.
Chapter skipping put me into the main menu.
Played it fine, but at 2:13 the clock stopped (pic and sound continued) and then as the scene cuts out to the long shot of the Tantive and the SD... FREEZE!

So.. the NTSC version won;t play were the PAL one did.

Has anyone else other than Ady and Me checke dthe NTSC one on a UK HD player?

???

I guess it could be an NTSC thing as mine will not play the PAL at all
If anyone has any advice or extra knowledge please share as I would love to watch it upconverted to 1080p/24

I'll be honest I have no idea what the Ep30 is equivalent to. And I just updated the firmware last week.
It *does* sound like an NTSC problem, I'm about 3 hours away from completing that download so I'll get that burned ASAP and check it out for you guys.

Just reporting on the HD situation.

PAL version, NG downloaded and par set repaired.
ISO burned directly in Nero Burning Rom.
Ridisc x8 media, burned at x4.

Played back at 1080i on a Toshiba HD-EP30KB

Menu screen transition is a little slow.
As is going from menu to PLAY-ing the film.

The film itself is playing away a treat as I write.
(Well past the 2m odds mark everyone else is having problems at, also past the first chapter break)

Chapter skipping also does no harm, way past The Cantina Band. Han just shot first! ;' )

In short. No problems here at all.
I may D/L the NTSC version and check that out.

While I'm here...
Cool to see the menus altered after my little post... Did you see the one about the small mistakes in the trivia track?

Cheers!!!

That is too bad. That is exactly the way I feel about torrents. Just a few hours after he finished uploading it and I have a lovely functioning NTSC DVD-5 of Adywan's Star Wars Revisited.

My take is, if its on an NG and its posted well, and it has a rar set for those with bad retention or a dodgy server, Usenet beats Torrents to a bloody pulp.
You get a steady (usually your maximum) download speed, you don;t have to worry about backdoor accessing, its easier, and there is always INSTANT feedback if the files are mot what they claim to be.

The only plus with torrents is you can usually find anything you look for. It may take time to get, but it is hard NOT to find something you might need.

(Now... how do I unsubscribe from this thrad so I don;t get it in my email box?? I'm happy enough to come here and read, but the myriad of *reminders* are annoying!!!! ;' ) )

Is it possible that you have your newsreader set to not show files with parts missing?

I checked my server in case I could do a repost for you and, oddly, MY server shows the parts you are talking about, but they are also the ONLY parts of the NTSC binary to have any parts missing!

(84 in total, which is weird, cos there are 85 parts missing from the PAL posting!!)

However, I would imagine the par set could easily fix that?

I was prompted to sign up and post for Covenant's benefit (possibly). I too am on Virgin's free news server and have had no problems d/l'ing any of the parts that are complete. However, I was recently notified that Virgin had changed their servers from the old news.cable.ntlworld.com one to news.virginmedia.com. If you aren't already on it, might I suggest a change and re-scan. You might be able to get most of your missing parts then.

I am up to about 76 at last count. Not long now.

Blinkin' Flip !!! (or words to that effect!)

They kept THAT quiet !

Just added the server and re-scanned... now only 85 parts missing from the entire post. And I'm sure the pars will cover them!

Good job that man! Glad you signed up !! ;' ))

Thanks Ady for confirming there will be a load of PARs... My server (Virgin- hmmmm...) shows only something like 20 of the 78 already posted files being complete, of the rest most are missing only one or two parts, but between rars 23 and 46 it averages around 80 (!!) parts missing per rar.

Ironically, the NTSC version has many less missing parts!
(Which isn;t too bad...)

oh well.. ho-hum!!! ;' )))

I don;t think it will matter how big the PAR set is, I think I'm still gonna have to wait for the torrent for the *real proper* disc.
(Or see what it ultimately ends up missing and maybe REQ selected individual RARs in the NG??)

NOTE TO THOSE DESPERATE:
The original *broken* post does still work.
You can view the film if you really want to see it.. just don;t copy it for people or torrent it.

Cheers again Ady.

Yeah, looks like I'm gonna have to go the torrent route for the PROPER release... there are dozens and dozens of missing parts on my server for this one, sadly.

Adywan...

Another couple of text glitches...

On your trivia subtitle track:

1:22:23 reads "Fixed audio error as they run away that WOUNDED like someone spitting"
(I assume this should be "sounded")

1:40:06 reads "...because there IS just too many to list..."
(Should be "...ARE just too many...")

A touch pedantic, I know, I know.... ;' )

So, finally able to watch the DVD version (got into the film using the trivia track option which just started it)
Blown away... absolutely blown away....

(Do pointing out these small chapter and trivia track problems get a "Joe (Covenant) Lamb" listing in the 'Nym' listings at the end !?!?!)

;' )))

Cheers (Looking forward to the DVD 9 now!)

Well... First post...
(Might be a little controversial though!)

Just downloaded the *broken* DVD of Adywan's amazing work. (Had to see it in its DVD5 glory).

I feel I should make a few suggestions though.

(I know, I know, it's just FINALLY been finished, but I have read these threads and it seems perfection is the goal, so...)

The menu screens have a few problems language-wise.

Chapter 15 - Your Fathers Lightsaber should be Your Father's Lightsaber
Chapter 32 - Into The Garbage Shoot should be Into The Garbage Chute
Chapter 45 - The TIE'S attack should be (either...) The Ties Attack, or, The Ties' attack

and (this one is a matter of opinion)
Chapter 51 - A Hero's Welcome ....... wouldn't, A Hero's Return (or even better, The Heroes Return), fit better?

Anyway, like I said, not looking to do anything negative here... I think the work done on this has been... beyond words really.
(And the 3-D scene is amazing!! Is there MORE of this stuff???)
