I might still be alive then đ
I might still be alive then đ
Well he lied for 4 years about not being involved so Iâll take that with a grain of salt.
He probably wasnât allowed to say he was involved.
TPM was one of the first movies to be (almost) fully CGI
Absolutely not true. It was shot on celluloid and made extensive use of practical effects and models, though you wouldnât know it from the god-awful home-video transfers itâs received.
1917 is great, if not very difficult to watch.
Holy crap, I did Greedo
Who shot first?
Loollll
(Late, i know)
On the coming novelization of âThe Rise Of Skywalkerâ, by author Rae Carson:-
âjust gonna shamelessly take this moment to mention that if the #TheRiseOfSkywalker film included everything in the novelization, it would definitely be at least 3 hours longâ
^ https://twitter.com/raecarson/status/1212810807009873926
ÂThe book will be available from March 3rd - https://www.amazon.com/Rise-Skywalker-Expanded-Star-Wars/dp/0593128400
That tweet kind-of confirms the reddit leaks in regards to the insider speaking about how Disney screwed up JJâs original 3-hour cut. Then again, itâs a rumour.
No it doesnât⌠novelizations donât always follow movies to a T. Why else would they exist?
And the fact that scenes were cut doesnât confirm Disney screwed over J.J. All movies are edited and have scenes cut.
This sounds rather fantastical, but it would be fun to give the film a second chance if true.
4K80 doesnât exist yet.
And you do realize that the difference between 2.35:1 and 2.39:1 is basically unnoticeable, right?
That and, further, the fact that film projection was sufficiently imprecise that thereâs no point trying to match the theatrical aspect ratio precisely. I say the same thing when people complain about 1.85:1 movies being released on Blu in 1.78:1. Nothing revealed by the slightly opened matte that thousands didnât see in the theater. Well within what DPs protect for.
Well itâs still useful as an aggregator so I donât have to scour Amazon or a million boards.
At least the Ewoks didnât blink đ
Iâll push back on the âold transfersâ bit but otherwise agree. A modern but faithful transfer is the way to go.
Yes some of the effects are dated. Doesnât mean they look bad or that the â97 cartoon effects look better.
ROTJ space battle effects look very dated. They are still among the BEST special effects EVER.
And I think they look better even than the sequel trilogy effects. I prefer the look of real ships, even if the motion is a little wonky, to the slick but artificial look of the CGI effects in the later films.
A more detailed review:
It was entertaining. I thought Benâs redemption was kind of lame and predictable. None of what i think was supposed to have emotional power did much for me. The kiss was lame. The Emperor was lame. But it was a fun adventure
Thereâs a place for movies that are merely entertaining. But Star Wars should be more.

M
Well, I look at it this way: we might get the OOT before we ever get The Abyss and True Lies on Blu-ray. Whoopee.
Wait, are we getting one of those?
Does not include Rogue One, yet uses a very Rogue One image for the box. Named âThe Skywalker Sagaâ, yet does not use any Skywalkers on the box. Huh.
How is that not a Star Wars image at least as much as itâs a Rogue One image?
All them discs and no OOT?
Emperor violently twisting through the air with a lightsaber sounds
FTFY
27 discs?!?
Not that outrageous when you think of it. For each title, probably one 4K disc of just the movie, plus 2 BDs, one with the movie and some extras, and one with just special features.
27-disc 4K Skywalker Saga to street 3/31/2020.
(Includes very short, non-spoiler comments on Rise of Skywalker)
Sick as a dog. Drinking lots of tea.
Irrelevant that it would sell better. Doesnât change the fact that physical media isnât even a drop in the bucket for Disney.

JJ is on our sides
Thatâs good to hear, and I respect him for being open about his views in this matter, but he sadly also confirms the OOT will not be released for reasons even he doesnât understand.
As far as he knows.
This is pretty major imo. We have the director of 2/3 of the ST saying on camera in a sit-down interview that he doesnât understand why the unaltered versions havenât been restored to modern quality. The most weâd gotten from him prior was casually mentioning heâd shown his kids the original versions in a written interview several years ago (whether this was the GOUT or Harmy is unclear).
Rian hasnât brought up the subject at all to my knowledge since he was hired by LFL back in 2014, although he did jokingly refer to the SE as âthe cartoon versionâ on twitter the week the bdâs came out back in 2011.
I think, it goes a little bit beyond, as far as he knows. He literally states, he asked about the OOT, and was told a release wasnât possible. So, I think itâs almost certain the OOT will not be included in the physical release of the 4K versions next year. In this respect itâs also important to note, that the new 4K master was done under the supervision of Lucas before the sale of LFM, making it even less likely the OOT will be restored, as this will be an archive release, not a new restoration by Disney. The release of the OOT is becoming less likely with every year that passes, and with physical media becoming extinct, next year will likely be the last opportunity for such a release, as the SE will forever remain the available versions on streaming services. I just donât see it happening next year, and so I donât see it happening at all, sadly.
Those are all valid points, but Iâd say the physical 4k release will sell in significantly higher numbers if an unaltered restoration is included, especially since anyone with a D+ subscription can now stream the 4k hdr SE anytime theyâd like.
Except that contradicts the nearly concrete evidence Abrams just gave us it ainât happening.
I admire your optimism on the matter, but at this point you need to lower your expectations, sadly.
Headline should be:
Though Iâm a Christian, Iâm not a big fan of most Bible-based films; most seem made to reinforce fundagelical dogma, at least to my cynical eye. But I absolutely loved The Last Temptation of Christ. Iâd really like to get my hands on the novel one of these days.
I, too, am a Christian. But I suspect even an ardent non-believer would be moved by the movie if he approached it with an open mind.
Ironic thing is most of the filmâs detractors have been believers.
Well, they say they are. Someone who truly is a believer in Christ and His ministry would have a much more open mind.
They canât stomach the notion that God the Son struggled with doubt and lust and other human foibles and couldâve succumbed to them. Their âplain, straightfowardâ reading of the Bible doesnât allow for anything but a perfectly perfect Jesus.
Frankly, I think these people worship the Bible (especially the King James Version) more than Jesus.
Long Live the Queen!
