Will we ever see the original trilogy released

Sorcerer’s Stone, limey. Us 'Murricans are too smart to waste our time philosophizing like fruitcakes.

I’m an “'Murrican”, lol. I call it by it’s original name because I appreciate that J.K.Rowling has stated that allowing Scholastic to strong-arm her into retitling her debut novel to make it more marketable in the U.S. is one of her biggest regrets. Unlike George, she values the sanctity of her original work.

If you had to include one character/location from the PT in the ST

To not address what is going on in Coruscant is daft. The Republic being one one easy to destroy mega city would have been weak so while there was something quite daring in leading us to believe Hosnia was that big important PT location I’m glad in a way they didn’t demolish it but if the original Jedi temple exists it would have resonance for either the heroes or the villains to take ownership of the place where Anakin took his first steps into a much larger world, even if it does remind us of how boring and stupid and weird the mechanisms of the old republic were before the Emperor swept them away.

What?

Do you think Disney will release the unaltered versions for DVD and blue ray?

I as everyone else don’t know the full specifics of GL’s deal with Disney.

He sold it, as in sold. As in Disney gave him 4 billion dollars in exchange for his company. When he took the dough he lost any say he had in the company. When someone pays that much for a company it comes without strings attached. Anything else would be dumb business for Disney.

Frankly, at this point, Fox is trying to milk every penny out of the OT they can before they lose the rights to Empire and Jedi. If that means cooperating with Disney/Lucasfilm on a physical release, they will do that. In the end, it’s about money, and that is the only way they can make any more off those two movies. The current Blu-Ray master has been milked dry—two “Complete Sagas”, two OT boxes, and the steelbooks. They need a new product now—namely 4K and/or an OUT BD, both of which will require a new master—to make any more substantial money before their rights expire.

Star Wars? Now that’s interesting. Good point about Fox access to archives. Fox could probably unilaterally release Legacy, though, if Mike is cool with that and Disney is not willing to cooperate on a restoration.

Nothing I’ve seen yet has done anything to dissuade me that it’ll come in 2017 for the anniversary.

They have to at least do something. I mean, could you imagine 40th anniversary screenings of SW, the most influential sci-fi film ever, being shown in the film’s current 1080p DCP state of affairs. It would be embarrassing. I would be shocked if Lucasfilm isn’t working on something. The question is what version of the film. The real shred of optimism is that the only version capable of yielding a 4+k transfer in its entirety is the theatrical version. And let’s be honest, there’s no way in hell that they’re going to commit resources to making new 4k cg models for yavin and Jabba, especially with George out of the picture. So it’s either a mostly 4k transfer with crappy 2k 90s special effects, or a truly vintage and awesome 4+k restoration of the original cut. Only a moron would choose the former.

Which versions are best for each viewing order?

At this point, I’m thinking when I have kids or nieces/nephews (who unless my siblings marry Star Wars fanatics I will undoubtedly have the responsibility of introducing to Star Wars), I’m just going to skip the prequels. We’ll have, judging by the quality of TFA, two good trilogies to watch, and maybe a few of these spinoffs which could serve to quench any thirst they might have for a backstory if they’re good.
