Never listened to them. Never really been into the soundtracks before. Just want the originals on CD rom. The '93s were before my time and are now pretty spendy.
So shortly after this discussion, I decided to re-check Amazon for this item. There was a new used listing for ~$10 +3.99 shipping. I promptly placed an order. Used copies are typically $30–40. Received it today, and the box was over-stuffed (lid didn’t fit completely on the box). I opened it and discovered that not only did it have the four discs from the release, but also EpI and EpII CDs in there. Cool, I guess.
Whoever was selling it (the merchant was some thrift store) obviously had no clue what it was supposed to include.
Edit: Weird thing I noticed. While the '97 SW CD has the original 1954 recording of the Fox Fanfare that is on the original film, and the new Williams recording for the other two, the '93 CDs all have the same version of the fanfare, the one recorded for TESB.
It won’t cost that much, because most people wouldn’t pay that much. Economics.
It’s not inconceivable, assuming that it’s comprehensive (multiple cuts, all old special features). Look at the 6 film Middle Earth set- the MSRP is $800, but they’re “discounting” it to $400 because literally no one would pay that much.
Why would anyone pay 400 dollars for that?
They wouldn’t. I’m just saying that studios do, at times, price these things absurdly high.
Obviously they have because it’s still for sale, now at $500.
Anyone ever notice that in the SE trailer, the Death Star II explosion doesn’t have a praxis effect?
It won’t cost that much, because most people wouldn’t pay that much. Economics.
And people paid $250 for it in 1993.
But it’s not 1993. Premium home entertainment is no longer a niche market. There certainly would be people buying it at $250 plus today, but they would make more money selling more at a lower price. In 1993, you already had to have money to have laserdisc, but BD is a format for the relative masses.
BD is as cheap as dvd.
Which is why I’m honestly a bit shocked when I walk into a Best Buy and they’re selling $25 DVD players next to $40 base model Blu Ray players. Who’s buying them?

Do you remember it?
One of the earliest I remember was Flash Gordon in 1980. I was 6.
I was 5. I remember watching loaned OT VHS tapes on the tube with my dad in preparation for seeing the Phantom Menace in the theater. I don’t remember seeing the Phantom Menace.
Yeah, if I can get 14 Hitchcock movies for $40 on Blu-ray, I should be able to get 3 Star Wars movies for that or less.
false
What? I’m not saying it’s going to be that cheap, but it should be.
It’s called supply-demand economics. There comes a price where it’s not worthwhile for Lucasfilm to drop the price any further. I guarantee that price is higher for the OT than any number of bundled Hitchcock films. Not to knock on Hitchcock, there are just many more buyers for SW.
Edit: Also consider all the royalties Lucasfilm needs to pay out that don’t need to be paid for the Hitchcock films.

Leaked screenshot from the 40th anniversary special edition BD?
I think Jaws is more saying they didn’t study it when making Rogue One because it’s the black sheep, not that it wasn’t restored for that reason.
I said that
oops…
I think Handman is more saying they didn’t study it when making Rogue One because it’s the black sheep, not that it wasn’t restored for that reason.
And the Reliance reel is a few years old IIRC. Entirely possible ROTJ wasn’t far enough along to be included.
Harry Potter just dropped in 4K. SRP $44.95 a title and currently pre-ordering on Amazon at that price, no box set, while the 2016 Blu Ray is selling on Amazon for $8.
For the OT, if we get 4K (and even if not), I like the individual title release idea, but $45 per title?? New releases don’t even fetch that on the format. Hopefully we won’t get gouged like this if the OUT comes around this year.
Why? I own one version and already that’s too much.
I was thinking more the eyes of a kid versus a filmmaker kind of thing.
Maybe he was in charge of construction?
I get the sense he’s talking in a more meta sense than a “it’s actually different” sense.
The concept must at least exist, as Luke mentions it.
*THREEPIO Is there anything I might do to help? Luke glances at the battered robot. A bit of his anger drains and a tiny smile creeps across his face. LUKE Well, not unless you can alter time, speed up the harvest, or teleport me off this rock!*I’ve always taken that as proof that those things don’t exist in the SW galaxy. Luke said it jokingly, knowing it was impossible. The concept of those things exists, but in a sci-fi/fantasy way. That’s my reading/canon anyway.
Yes, but IIRC, Threepio’s answer in the novel implies the technology does exist, or at least the study of it…

I’d imagine if the tech existed, Threepio would have at least elementary knowledge of it.
Spider-Man 2 has a cliffhanger?
Doctor Octopus may or may not have drowned.
The Italian Job (1969)
Love it.
The prequels suck!
/thread
Be happy it’s at least got the new color. Prequels didn’t even have that much.
I’m just glad there are no Roman numerals.
Good to know that the novelizations get the same respect that the films deserve.
Just about sixteen years ago they were everywhere and ran the galaxy. Even Lil’ Annie knew all about 'em! Even if (maybe especially if) there were huge galaxy-wide book burnings, ban on all evidence, believers rounded up, ect., plenty of people would remember it and there would be plenty physical evidence to back it all up.
There just isn’t enough time between ROTS and ANH for me to buy any of it. I’m just not willing to believe that everyone in the galaxy is that stupid.
Like CHEWBAKAspelledwrong said, the prequels suck.
That does leave Ben though. He’s the right age for the accepted timeline. So is Vader, come to think (what I’m saying is that they’re human and the timeline is compatible with human lifespan). It’s probably more a problem of misrepresenting the Jedi in the prequels than a timeline issue. They should have been a more covert and mysterious organization. I think benevolent, organized, monkish vigilantes would have been better than seeing Yoda taking meetings with Senators.
